@BCPodcast I remember they used to sell this thing called Jello No-Bake. Which was a combination of chocolate and really creamy peanut butter. Too rich for my blood, buy I had friends who absolutely loved it. You should have your chica make it for you sometime. I bet the recipe is online.
@TheFaustianMan When it comes to making confections, between my chica and myself, I'd say I'm the more proficient patissier. I do remember that stuff. It was wicked sweet but so good! Definitely something that brings a person closer diabetes.
Jedi Reflexes! Haha. I think my favorite candy is these little things I've only ever seen in the Southern U.S. called "Mallow Cups." They are like Reeses cups, but with marshmallow cream and coconut inside. It's amazing. The wrapper is the hideous faded orange in the same hue as the menu pictures hanging on the walls of old diners.
@EvannRachel I know exactly what you're talking about! I've only seen them occasionally though. But a friend of mine used to buy those by the case (I'm not kidding) he lived up in Boston and absolutely loved them. When I first saw a box of yellowed wrappers in a closet I thought it was the original owner left them behind from the 70s! They definitely need to update their wrapper. For some reason I thought of cat pee. And neither him nor I own any cats!
One of my favorites would have to be, Chick-o-sticks. They're similar to the center of a Butterfinger bar, but without the chocolate coating. Least favorite candy would have to be liquorish. Do not want. HAH!
@RPJoey You know I never heard of them. I googled them and they look good! Oh yeah! Liquorish! I hate that the most of all come to think of it. My dad loves that. Along with those horribly colored "Circus Peanuts". I remember buying "Chuckels" when I was a kid. Nobody wanted the black chuckle! Why did they even bother making the black chuckle I'll never know.
I saw an article online that Americans favorite breakfast cereals are changing. Some well-known cereals are being fazed out. That's another interesting blog topic. Is the switch towards more healthy cereals (less sugar, more fiber) a good thing? Or maybe, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've been to both extremes: I made my own granola/cereal from scratch (you need jaws like a pitbull to chew it though) And as a kid, I would eat bowls of Captain Crunch and drink the syrup milk left at the end!
@LoveMattersMost I wonder if it has less to do with the "health" and more to do with the increased cost of sugar to manufacture. Because most of that stuff is actually corn, which has skyrocketed in price due to the speculation on corn being used as fuel. Kinda like when McDonald's phased out its super-sized thing. After that (and I use the term very loosely) documentary came out. To move towards a more health conscious food. Come on' it's McD's we're talking about.
@TheFaustianMan I hadn't thought of it in terms of economics, but I'm always very naive about human motivations. Money makes the World turn round' that's for sure!
Good and Plenty (but murder on the teeth!), Big Hershey's kisses.
*******
Oh no! Rats!: Candy corn, red hots, chewing gum, esp. bubble gum, candy canes (from last year's Christmas!), jaw-breakers (hard candies). And I agree with-Baby Ruth. Babe Ruth would be turning in his grave!
@LoveMattersMost hahaha! I never got a Candy cane for Halloween! It would have been hilarious if I had though. Or those peppermint Diner mints they give you for free after your meal.
@TheFaustianMan "free dinner mints" haha! Classic! I wouldn't have thought of that. But you planted a bug in my ear. I would have all year to save up a bowl for next Halloween!!! : )
My favorite Russell Stover's are the holiday variants of chocolate covered marshmallow with caramel. Santas, Xmas trees, pumpkins, witches, hearts, you name it. Delicious.
My favorite older candy was Marathon bars. Again, swirled chocolate covered caramel. It morphed into the $100,000 bar which became the 100 Grand that I now eat today.
That being said, I just downed an 8-pack of Reese's cups. But in my defense, the cups in those packages are the size of quarters.
@kingdomofchrissmith I know what you mean! Those are good! Didn't know about that Marathon bars. Interesting name. They had this Hawaiian candy bar called "Good News" that was a bit of a rip off of a snickers bar.
Dude, I have a Russell Stover's manufacturing plant right down the road. The best time in the world is right after Easter. Then you can get all the leftover Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter candy at blowout prices. Usually .25 cents each or less!
You know those Jedi reflexes only worked because you were saving a piece of chocolate. If you had dropped a glass, or a book, or anything else, it would have hit the floor. You were "in union" with the Russell Stover's pumpkin. ^___^
Jedi reflexes son! my favorite candy is the sour octopus gummies! least favorite is probably some candy i haven't bothered to try yet!
