The one thing that separates women from men is their role in the continued existence of the human race. Its what makes them unique, important, and necessary. I personally think that abortion suppresses this, and as a result, it also degrades women. Sure, perhaps there are some special exceptions, but these should be very few and rare. Intercourse does have a purpose, and its not purely for pleasure...the pleasure is merely a side affect of something far greater.

@Angelchik79 Actually, until a fetus develops the neural networks necessary for awareness, especially of pain and suffering, it IS just a mass of cells. It has no memories, and no real life to be taken away if aborted. I will admit that AFTER the stage when consciousness arises and memories can form, the ethical issue of abortion becomes much more blurry. But, for now, I remain "pro-choice."

The majority already have kids and can simply not afford or want another one, risking have to quit education or losing job. It's always a shock to the system to have a unwanted pregnancy. And 72 hours is more then enough considering the woman normally has thought about this for weeks and searched info. The counseling is def too much and insulting. You need to stop reading pro-life blogs and get to the neutral material.

It's the individual states who decides if it's legal in the second trimester and they have all made it legal before viability or shortly before that. The earliest is 20 weeks. And yes, it's a own person at viability in my opinion and by the law and they are also protected by law from that moment if they would be born. Have no idea where you get murder form unless you mean illegal abortions = abortions not performed by a doctor.

It's not about when a certain state believes it is ok to abort a child. Because the fact alone that states vary in that particular decision just proves how the states are making up their own definitions of when a fetus becomes viable.

@MademoisellleMollie If one state claims that a fetus is viable after 12 weeks, and another state claims that a fetus is viable after 20 weeks, yet ANOTHER claims that viability comes after 24 weeks, then who's right? who's wrong? which state is committing murder? but, most of all, what foundation are these states basing their decisions on? certainly not one consisting of any hard evidence, other wise it would be clear when a fetus is actually viable, and NO states would differ in the subject.

@arudiv No they can not go against medical facts. They don't have to make it legal in the second trimester but they choose to. Medicine moves forward all the time and the latest is 24 weeks but it also depends on how conservative the state is and what they consider viable. 20% chance to survival? 60%? 33% of babies born at 24 weeks, 19.9% at 23 weeks, and 9.1% at 22 weeks live long enough to be discharged from hospital.
