Amoco Oil Co. was the first company to give me a credit card back then it was very hard for a young person to get credit. It was because of Amoco I was later able to get all the major credit cards and eventually get a mortgage on a house
I wouldn't mind having this song to play at cruise ins! Thanks so much for uploading this! It's so sad that the petroleum industry isn't making quirky, fun little commercials for their products like this anymore.
In a blunder of classic proportions, bp took the best, well-known and respected gasoline brand in the USA (Amoco Torch and Oval) and replaced it with a silly new age helios. Ten years later and they haven't recovered their brand recognition yet. Pretty stupid move by the Brits.
@Wiley84 - In Australia, BP bought out Amoco circa 1982. I thought BP's biggest marketing blunder was to replace the "BP Shield" logo recognised the world over with that silly pinwheel design that says nothing about who it belongs to.
It's great to see this add. My dad had an amoco servo and we had all the promotional stuff. He got some great "besemar" wear plates from America for selling a certain amount of petrol. It was all very swish. GMD
At :25 the girl that was on top of that 27 foot revolving sign fell and ended up owning Ammco. She ended up recovering and decided to use her money to help those that were suffering, since she herself had bad memories of the fall she bought herself 380 lbs of marajiuana and shingled her house with it.
Excellent Commercial!! The following advertisement from Amoco in early 1969 had energy, spotaneity, zip, panache, balance, and openness in the clip. A Solid 6!! Well Done!!
You and You Tube are THE BEST!! I thought I had hallucinated this commercial all these years. No one recalled this, but I remembered that there was something having to do with a girl sitting on top of that sign! We had STANDARD here in Chicagoland, but all I remember is wanting to sit on top of one of those signs too!

TheZepmeister They had a number of photographic techniques that would do the effects. And the sign was probably on the ground.

Wiley84 And then BP managed to stagger from one disaster to another.

BP may want to consider bringing the old Amoco name out of mothballs right about now.

My parents bought a 1969 Chevy Impala when I was a little kid. We called it the green BOMB because it smoked like a freight train. LOL

I miss Amoco, but the way BP changed it you think Amoco never left minus still keeping the name on the type of gas..

In my area, they even got rid of the Amoco name for the gasoline. Awful.

I like the Amoco guy's reaction, "Who the heck are these hippies?"

Great commercial from my favorite time. The 1960's seemed more modern than today.

Love this commercial! The girl on the rotating sign and the reverse-negative effect at the end.

That was fun...kinds of reminded me of something The Association would do. Remember when going to the gas station was actually fun?
