@dvdscott2009 In terms of techniques yes... In terms of song writing I have to say no... there will never be another Eddie when it comes to that his riffs are just out of this world
@edhombre Hi there, I'm actually just playing through a Roland MicroCube with a little reverb and set to the Rectifier setting. That little amp ROCKS!!! Thanks for watching.
hey dude can u send me a tab or a do a vid of the second fill lick @ 1:08 in the 1st verse cuz i bought a lick library thing on steve vai and it sucks ur version sounds better
I love how everyone says "It's made to go in both directions" Well, yes, it can. But most of the first guitars that had it were flush mounted, so they only dove and maybe pulled back a little bit. Neck angle or a recess is what lets you pull back.
i have one its a whammy bar witch you can move in the two directions instead in one. floyd rose are hard to tune but your at the neck prevent your guitar to go out of tune
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA are u serious dude its the best thing to happen to the guitar it locks the strings at the bridge and at the nut and the bridge "floats" so u can pull back on the whammy bar too its really amazing fabulous invention
Ya know, I get so sick of watching people like you on here......makes me want to just give up and quit playing!!!! NICE JOB MAN!! I've watched a few other videos of yours. Great work!!
Nicely done state. Do you think at time 1:55 that the high G note is played correctly? Meaning having a 24 fret guitar plus bending up and pulling up the whammy bar? I'm thinking steve hit that high note as a harmonic on the 17th fret 3rd string. Barrow down on the trem hammer on the 3 rd string and as you come up with trem have your finger at the 17th fret with a light touch and wa la.
He might do that, I'm not sure. He's crazy. The pitch I play is the same though and I know that I can hit it everytime onstage while jumping around and acting like a goofball. I like how Vai plays it in the "Yankee Rose" video with no hands. To cool. Thanks :)
I can hit it everytime to but I sometime break that darn high E string. I won't even attempt it with old strings. I save my high E when playing it as a harmonic however. just a thought.
Yup that's a good point. I like the idea that he plays the lowest note on the guitar and then the highest. But anouther reason I kind of have to play it that way is that I play all these "Hair" tunes with a hard tail bridge, so I have to come up with some creative solutions for the wammy bar parts. Van Halen tunes are really tough in that respect.
there's a lot of people whose hands in my opinion just look awkward on the guitar--even if they're good--some people just look awkward. but you seem to be in total control. great job!
Thanks for the comment, but how do you know I'm not Adam Sandler :) Just kidding but I guess I do sound like him there. You should hear my Christopher Walken.
haha very nice playing, also your bass and diamond dave intro parts!

I love the beginning haha! Diamond Dave is a legend
but you really knocked this one out! especially considering you didnt have a whammy or wah wah pedal.. you rock!
ejavoric 4 years ago
The part at 0:32 is actually a depressed hammer on i think.
But your way sounds good too!
xDrizZt 4 years ago
Thanks man, yeah with out a wammy bar I was forced to take a few liberties with some fills. This song kicks ass though!
stateofmindrocks 4 years ago
Do you know which kind of wah pedal Vai was using?
I have the Bad Horsie 2, and it sounds pretty good, but idk.
xDrizZt 4 years ago
I have one of those to and it rules. I'm not sure what he was useing back then though.
stateofmindrocks 4 years ago
Ha,
I know.
This song is kinda hard for me.
I'm learning it, but i've only been playing for about 7 months.
Do you have a tab handy?
Or do you know where i can find an accurate one?

Hey, great playing. But, just to let you know, the song Yankee Rose is by David Lee Roth, but Steve Vai was the guitarist in his band at the time.
