Its a shame that music videos have shit all over themselves digested the shit then threw it up and became the bacteria underneath it. I love ELO, I have simce I was a child. I love the video!
I can't get it out of my head that such a quality promo for this song existed. Shame that it's a shortened version - which can be the only possible reason for the 10 dislikes.
Mik (Violinski) Kaminski was 60 a couple of days ago so quite a bit of ELO was played on the radio. It's hard to think of which of the current crop of bands will still be getting regular air play 35 years from now.
Reminds me of when i was a kid and my dad would put the record player on and tell me stories about every song. i always loved this song! He listened to this when my mom refused to marry him at first lol it meant the world to me when i got older and could understand the feeling. Long story short i just played this song at MY wedding. Wish i couldve been part of a musical generation that even came close!
so I plays this one backwards on my turntable and it sez "they will try but they will see that it is useless".. truer words. Jeff Lynee is another of my Godfathers of electronic music.. GENUIS.. ELO 4 ever!
I really like this song, but there's just something missing for me. I can't put my finger on it. I just don't feel like it has that special something to make it a truly great song.
I LOVE The Beatles, they're my favourite band, and I've heard that ELO really sounds a lot like The Beatles. I don't really think they do to be honest. Maybe this song a tiny bit? But I don't really hear it.
@Marshallsg Hmm, I can see how a little bit. /watch?v=8TLmpL2AzLs may be a better example, I was actually definate that it was the Beatles when I first heared it
Brings back fond memories of me as a kid, listening to my parents' LP records. Right now, I'm listening to the same record, on a modern USB turntable that is. I think Eldorado (of which this song is the second track on the A-side) is one of the greatest albums in progressive rock history and should be listened to in whole, not just this part.
I remember watching these cats perform this(and a few other)hits on Don Kirshner's "Rock Concert".That televised concert was unreal to my friends and I,who just happened to be in a really good mood-do to the cigaretts that we smoked back then.I also have to agree with @ubertek and @rbtu42.For crying out!A young person who Acknoweledges good seventies music?Not just good music in general!I mean ELO!!! And you knock them?You owe that young person an apology-because you're the mature one-right?
I heard this song for the first time when I was a teen, and it reminded me of John Lennon´s vocals and harmonies immediately. A wonderfull tribute to the music of the Beatles,' Jeff Lynne simply brilliant !
My older brother used to listen to this over and over. I loved it when I was 6 years old and I still never, ever get tired of it. This whole album is phenomenal. Jeff Lynne is the most underrated person in rock music.

Jeff Lynne really has the Beatles thing down. He has produced Paul, George, and Ringo and really sounds like John here. Actually, the whole song is Beatle-ish.

Wow, I'm 15 and this is so much better than pretty much EVERYTHING out there today. Music that actually has meaning and isn't just about sex, drugs, partying and other stuff. LOVE IT
Amazing. The like/dislike ratio is 180:1, with 539:3. That means that only about 0,5% of the people pressing like or dislike, disliked it. You hardly ever see that figure going below 1%.
Electric Light Orchestra combine my two favorite musical genres (rock and classical music) in a way I never thought possible. Jeff Lynne is truly a musical genius. It's a shame here, in my country, I have yet to meet a single person who had listened to or have even actually heard of ELO, except perhaps my 80 year old grandpa.

Officially my favorite song by ELO! My bf introduced me to this song earlier today for the first time hearing it, i thought it was a john lennon song lol. However its a beautiful song. xoxo

Jeff's eyes are sooo nice. So blue and beautiful, he should've left his sunglasses off more, although he looks so cool when he wears them :) I'm 19 and I think ELO are amazing. Thanks mum for introducing me to real music. Shame there isn't enough of it these days.
@rebecca4bonjovi: great to know that the young folk can appreciate brilliant music! Your mum has done you a great service by introducing you to this masterpiece!
You're comment is so great and brings back memories of the seventies and eighties when the favorite music group of my sons and me was ELO. It's not often parents and kids like the same music, but it is wonderful when they do. ~ Janice
I can listen to this song 1,000 times and hear something new each time. This is my time machine, with headphones on and closed eyes I am transported back to 1975 Dallas, a world so far away from the current one that it's hard to believe they were ever on the same planet. This song altered my life forever and my future, the lyrics are so deep and so soul cutting it's simply so far beyond English to explain. The melody touches something deep inside me that's way, way beyond words to describe.
@balboaboats I do so agree with you. The whole song is understated and yet incredibly powerful. The lyrics are beautiful and the melody can break or mend your heart. It changed my life too in so many ways. ELO are first class musicians and their music never dates. They really do possess a Strange Magic.
@balboaboats You put it into words better than I could. I have loved this song since my father turned me on to it when I was ten. It is still just as magical and breathtaking to me, to this very day...and it *still* makes me cry...Jeff Lynne had such a beautiful voice too... :)
@balboaboats listening to this in brasilia, but this song takes me back to my schooldays in a suburb in helsinki, finland in 1978 when I was listening to this in spring mornings before walking to school to see the girl I loved so much at the time. could not know at the the time that this and other ELO songs could stand time so well - and I still have the vinyls left back there!
** I meant no offense ! "I plea ignorance". (and I'm sorry). I know NOTHING about ELO except I love their music. (I was just curious and didn't know about that "person").
@TommyZTrains Don't be sorry! It's just there's a lot of people on youtube that post a lot of hateful comments on stuff they don't like. I see now you were just asking an honest question. So, don't worry about it : )
@TommyZTrains ....The long hair of the 70's can throw ya off...isn't it great! Many times I do not even read the comments because of the "few small-minded individuals" that pick apart how the band looks and are totally clueless to the genius of a band such as Jeff Lynn, ELO, and others They could just as well be stone deaf. There...now I vented...here come the daggers. :)
I was cleaning up my nose hairs and thought about this song , I made it here via youtube in the year 2012 :) QC

@balboaboats
I know exactly what u mean about it being such a different world now and about the song touching something deep inside....I agree with u 100% !!

@TommyZTrains You say you like the music then you insult the band. Ok.

@madcap66laughs NEVER ! "YOU ARE WRONG" !! :-)

So, don't worry about it : )
madcap66laughs 1 year ago
@TommyZTrains ....The long hair of the 70's can throw ya off...isn't it great! Many times I do not even read the comments because of the "few small-minded individuals" that pick apart how the band looks and are totally clueless to the genius of a band such as Jeff Lynn, ELO, and others They could just as well be stone deaf. There...now I vented...here come the daggers. :)
