The FIA and everybody only found out about the whole thing when Renault fired piquet later on in the season, and he spilt the beans. Just shows how controversial f1 is these days.
Briatore is a slimy dirty ugly piece of sh*t i would have have banned him access to all circuits and not even let him watch it on TV if i could. Terrorists deserve more access to races then him
this incident also caused massa his world title, ferrari knew the sec it was under yellow flag, the teams includin Ferrari all have to rush for a pit stop unfortunately massa's pit stop cause him to drop from 5th to fucking last!imagine this would not happen hamilton would'nt be champion and brazil would once again have f1 champion in massa since ayrton senna!
i still find it amazing they got caught , i mean it looks like a real accident , he just came in to hot and lit the rear end up and span round , quite hard too. Plus theres the fact that by that stage in the season it was clear that piquet wasnt good enough for F1 (well the front runners at least) and so mistakes by him were not so suprising.
@Kiriames what driver aids are that then? because as far as I know, traction control; they don't have, brake assistance; they don't have, stability assistance; they don't have, steering assistance; they don't have.
@staponsa1 Spygate was McLaren's fault by spying on Ferrari. Crashgate was prepared by Briatore to force Alonso to sign one more year, by giving him the chance of a victory in Singapour.
@nickie2011 technically you are right about spygate, but crashgate is something alonso was aware of. He himself could have said ' I want to win this race fairly without nelson crashing' (which is unlikely as it is alonso) plus alonso had a 3 year contract with renault from his return in 2008, the only reason that he is at ferrari now is because raikkonnen left, so it wasn't to force alonso to sign for another year. So YOU shut up you imbecile.
@droidbait Idiot. You must be idiot to say that you "know" that Alonso "knew" about Piquet's crash... because, you see, you're such an important person that you were there to witness the facts... moreover, you're so intelligent that you have the ability of penetrating Alonso's mind and read it!!! OMG!!!! what a dumbass
@mktgdescodificado If you were intelligent enough to know that Piquet, Symonds and briatore said gave evidence because of this, you woul know that alonso was aware of what piquet was going to do. He also said in an interview last year that he knew what piquet was going to do, so don't call me an idiot if you aren't intelligent enough to look at the facts.
@droidbait Actually raikkonen did not leave he would still driver for ferrari.. The suprise suprise spanish bank bought Raikonen out from ferrari and Alonso in.
@droidbait Well Raikkonen have asked renault for a possible drivers serat for 2011 and some rumours say he will replace Massa in ferrari for 2011. I think he will be back!
@92NB I think it may be likely for Raikkonen to replace Petrov in Renault, but I don't want Massa to be replaced in Ferrari, Massa suits Ferrari, personally I would want Alonso to be replaced.
it is his fault. he could have said no. if briatore had sacked him he could have told everyone what briatore was planning. athough he wouldnt have had a drive, ppl would still be impressed by his 2nd place at hockenheim and he would have got another drive. now i realise he's just a complete nob
se estrello por orden de la escuderia para favorece a alonso, mi ra como se lo ha callado el puto trapichero lloron. ahora schumacher le va a arrancar las pegatinas este año
I think this was the stupidest idea ever and I almost fully blame Briatore for this mess but also partially Piquet. But I kind of understand why Piquet did it--I mean he had a lot to live up to, with his dad being a three time world champion, and he was underpreforming and was about to be sacked.
I don't agree with what he did at all, it was careless and stupid, but I understand it.
How does he have no life? He has a shit load of money, woman, cars, homes. and was a successful boss at renault. And you? ....I'd say his life is pretty good.
@aha23451 Isn't doing whatever you want the best life there is? I hardly find your comments insulting...rather a compliment to him. It would be better to say that a man his age should know better and he should be a better example for youths..He's obviously failed in that regard, which is something a man should not fail in. So his "Leisure" life will not be enjoyed as he knows he is a twisted man.
What happened was, because Piquet had been under performing, flavio (the boss of renault) told Piquet that he would be fired if he didnt crash. so people, stop dissing Piquet, he wasn't a good driver but still, he dosnt deserve abuse that he wasnt in control of.
exactly right miniman, although i dont know if he was told he would be fired if he didn't loop it into the wall, however it goes it was Briatore's game plan..
at least Piquet had the balls to admit what happened, when Briatore will never admit nothing and is still defending .
as someone said in a F1 forum, it's not like Piquet had the luxury of 'choosing teams', he was in a team that was probably going to get rid of him sooner or later because he was under -performing.
Who you gonna blame? The kid whom you can replace in a heartbeat, or the honcho you've known for years and who is likely to give you your job back after your ban while making sure you are well "taken care of" in the meantime for having saved the sacred cow's hide? Please.
NO CONTROL? He had complete control. All he had to do was NOT CRASH and take his firing like a man. He is a bad driver, and bad drivers who are paid a lot of money to be good deserve to be fired.
Briatore is by no means a saint, but don't be fooled by Piquet's argument of "pressure". He could very well not have crashed the car, then denounced Flavio for reccomending he do so. The reason he didn't do that is that it was Nelson's idea to do it in the first place. It was in Motorsport Mag.
Sorry but my dad works for renault F1 and he spoke to Piquet. Flavio and Symmons got fired because they organised it. Piquet did it so he could keep his job. You can't blame him for wanting to have money.
@minimanben23 But the thing is ... he Piquet it. If he had some balls he would have said " no way man i'm not doing this shit, go... !" you think Gilles Villeneuve would have done that ? No way ...
@xBorg6of9x but if Piquet refused then they would of fired him (even though they did that a year later) It's like 2002 Austrai, Barrichello was being told to let Schumacher past 8 laps before the end, but Barrichello was not having it, in the end Ferrari threatened Barrichello with his job so Barrichello knew that the only thing he could do to stay in F1 was to let him past
Wouldn't say just that happened, but if it did, I would not be surprised. I believe in luck, but I also believe that people cheat. Glock had nothing to lose, except for a silly point, and McLaren had lots to win. It's not forbidden, nor unsportive for any driver, to let another driver pass you. The motivation CAN be cheating, but it can also be goodwill, like between teammates
open your memory. Glock had slick tires and Hamilton had rain tires. Glock made a bet and wond a position. Anyway it's better for everybody that Hamilton won the title. Imagine the polemic if he lost it with the Spa story and especially with the Renault cheating (he should've been 2 and Rosberg 1). I think everybody agree if I say that actually F1 doesn't need a story like that
If your refering to last years Brasilian GP, If you knew anything about F1 you would of noticed that the only 2 cars on Slick tyres were the Toyotas. It was a gamble from Toyota which didn't pay off for them but it worked out for Mclaren. That isn't cheating. That's just luck.
how is it a gamble when glock magically pulls over on the outside going half speed just coincidently for hamilton to gain one position to win the championship. open your eyes!!
Did you not read what I wrote?. The toyotas where on slicks - in the rain, The rest of the field came in for wets/intermediates which give them better grip. Which meant Hamilton could go faster then Glock.
haha sooo true LucHazzon. Mclaren are just as bad. scamming their way to a world title by asking glock to politely let hamilton through after he couldnt hold off Vettel who was in Toro rosso for gods sake! and was a rookie!
LOL Did you think mclaren went over a strategy and said " lets ask glock to slow down last corner and let hamilton by for the world championship " As if. you're delusional man. And I highly doubt they walked down pitlane and asked toyota to have glock slow down for hamilton
The really sad fact for me is that Alonso MUST have been in on this. For a long time I've considered him to be the best current F1 driver, but this really drags him down. And they weren't even fighting for the championship. What the hell were they thinking!?!
why do you think that he must have known about it? i think that piquet would have mentioned it, if this would be true.. Alonso is the best driver right now, and hes gonna prove it next year in the ferrari
I agree that Alonso is the most complete driver in F1 right now. And I notice that the FIA has exonerated him from any involvement in this scandal. I am afraid I still find it hard to believe that a driver of his calibre would not have been fully aware of the race strategy, but I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.
okay thats right, but it wouldn be the first time that a driver who starts from behind choose a strategy with less fuel, to be able to overtake as many cars as possible, so it doesnt really prove anything
Yes but on this street circuit in Singapore how many cars was he realistically going to overtake? And remember he was starting 15th so that's a lot of traffic. A heavy fuel load would have made much more sense... But I agree it does not prove anything.

Team orders will be forever in formula 1, and in this case, Renault is doing quite worse than Ferrari or any other team in the past.

And regarding crashing we all know other pilots who were worse cheater than schumacher...
