The U.S. needs to deal with this debt addiction now and look at ways to stop this unbelievable slide to a non world power status.
After airing this ad in Arkansas, North Dakota, and Maine (where key senators reside), voters under 30 now OPPOSE government healthcare by a wide margin (65% oppose, 25% support). Do not nationalize hospitals, but rather eliminate the middle man.
Have a national health insurance plan, rather than a government run hospital.
Do not have the government run hospitals, but rather provide the coverage, and leave the administrative duties up to the current hospital managerial system.
Whether govt controls the purse strings via insurance, or merely controls the actual delivery of said product via the hospitals, you have the same result.
The real cure is to focus on increasing the pool of doctors and nurses (which is actually declining in this country). Fix that, and everything else follows.

Medical costs are so high BECAUSE of the for-profit insurance we have in this country. Because insurance companies have 'agreements' with certain care providers, they don't pay full price for a procedure. For example, you have something done that would cost you $1000 out of pocket, the insurance will pay $800. What happens to the other $200? The provider eats it, and raises costs to cover the shortfall. Wife is a PT, and current system SUCKS for providers We need a Public Option!

That is not what she is saying. Under this plan you either have to pay a 1000 dollar fine or buy health insurance. Government subsidies only kick in after you pay 12% of your income towards health insurance premiums. They didn't make that very clear in the video though.

It does not, the medical practices are not owned by the government, the insurance is, most practices are private/non-profit, not owned by the govt.
There are private insurers that you can buy into that bring all the perks, assuming you have the means.
Every necessity is pretty much covered, except dental, though dental insurance here is rather inexpensive.
We are able to choose which practice we want in any area, we even have a card to purchase pharmaceuticals at any convenience store.

The real cure is to focus on increasing the pool of doctors and nurses (which is actually declining in this country). Fix that, and everything else follows.

Any employer who foots part of their employee's health care bill is going to see a gigantic increase in cost as a result.
If they decide it's cheaper to no longer offer health care, what option will the employee have left?

Medical costs are so high BECAUSE of the for-profit insurance we have in this country. Because insurance companies have 'agreements' with certain care providers, they don't pay full price for a procedure. For example, you have something done that would cost you $1000 out of pocket, the insurance will pay $800. What happens to the other $200? The provider eats it, and raises costs to cover the shortfall. Wife is a PT, and current system SUCKS for providers We need a Public Option!

That is not what she is saying. Under this plan you either have to pay a 1000 dollar fine or buy health insurance. Government subsidies only kick in after you pay 12% of your income towards health insurance premiums. They didn't make that very clear in the video though.

Actually, poor people get government insurance already? What, you mean going to the ER? It costs YOU more if someone doesn't have insurance and has to go to the ER for emergency care than it does to insure that person and get them preventative care.
Also, we're not talking about homelessness, which is also a real and serious problem. We're talking about Health Care and how thousands each year die because they are uninsured or underinsured (i.e. denied coverage)

Oh yes because it is fair that insurance companies continue to raise our premiums. Deductibles doubled in price in 2008 alone.
Why are these prices so high? To pay for the 200,000 a year salaries of the doctors you see. I'm sorry but you should become a doctor to help people not for the money.

whats wrong with being a Socialist? Back in the early 1900's this country had a pretty healthy Socialist party. Socialists were elected into congress, a socialist ran for president and got a million votes in 1912. 70 mayors were Socialists. Millauwakee elected a Socialist for Mayor four times. The only reason the Socialist Party was dismantled was because they were anti-war during WW I, so Wilson had them all thrown in prison and blacklisted for speaking against the war.
