A lot of period swing and jive talkin' in this classic Tom and Jerry cartoon. When Toots (the girl cat) calls Tom "Jackson", that's a compliment. That term came from comedian and bandleader Phil Harris, who played a womanizer in the Jack Benny radio show during the 1940's always called Jack "Jackson" in order to be hip. This is also the only cartoon where Tom has extensive speaking parts, voiced (I believe) by Bill Hanna.

It's funny, in the shorts when Tom or Jerry talks it's hilarious! But in the movie, it's not. Silent humor is really one of the funniest forms of comedy and Tom & Jerry are the kings of it. But when Tom speaks, OMGLOLLAZOR! (sorry) What the movie did wrong is that they talked regularly, which destroyed any bit of comedy.

lolz I know this cartoon is WAY before my time (I'm 21) but I love how it SCREAMS 1940s. It's interesting to hear the way people talked and acted back then. And I actually know what some of those words mean. "What's jumpin, chick?" "You're a sad apple, a cornhusker, a long hair!" Hard to believe this is from when my GRANDPARENTS were kids/teens.

this is when directors Bill hanna and Joe barbera was at there prime. not to say there Television cartoons werent ok,  but by no means was the scooby doo stuff as good as there days at Metro-wyn. This type of work is just so inspiring.
