I respect all the heroes before me and the ones that will be hear when my time comes. Till then i ask my fellow soldiers to keep
They need to make a film about the 1798 United Irish Rebellion. Since this song was originally written to honor the Irish who died they would already have the credit music at least.
@SkyJ5, yeah, well some parts in the movie aren't that accurate, bud. Haha! In the book, Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, by Mark Bowden - which tells about what really happened in the battle, it states that Durant did not know the two Delta snipers personally. He had seen them around the hangar, but he didn't know them that well. And I have learned a little bit more about Gordon and Shughart since I posted that comment. They risked their lives for the whole crew; not jut Durant.
Just to add, makes me upset that most of both countrys (america and australia) will argue that the war in afghanistan and iraq shouldnt be fought! but think on this those who see this comment. i leave my daughter in 3 days for a war that is not mine. Most of the blokes i'm going with don't know why we are going. and this is my 2nd tour and i still dont know why war is fought by the soldiers. BUT! made by the governments! remeber this before you judge us. we all should have learnt from vietnam!
I just found out 2 days ago i will be shipped out to afghanistan with the rest of my boys in the Australian army i have no better respect than for my brothers in arms when it comes down to the 'crunch' i know that i can put all my trust into my mates and they can with me. It gives me security inside knowing that they will do their best to make sure i get back to my beautiful daughter, and i will do my very best to make sure the same for them. Lest We Forget! those to serve and them to come! <3
The older I get, the more respect and insight I gain into the affairs of the world. SO OFTEN, missions such as these are carried out, and b./c they are without incident, they are not REPORTED. Movies like this are good because they give a SMALL (very) TASTE of what our troops go through every second of every day. I have a group on FB "Proud Grandchildren of WW2 Veterans" come on over, it isn't just for WW2, or for just Grandchildren, that's just the name! WE HONOR ALL...
hell ya i love are country and pray for are troops and every time i see a man or women in uniform i shake there hand and say thank you like a true american.
I support the Troops, and I fucking love the Country, yet I hate the Government, their playing with American lives for the benefit of a somewhat unified democratic organization... think about it... Saddam wasn't the best leader, but at least he was a leader... when we forced Iraq to become a Democracy and invade their Country, all we did was piss off more Iraqis who lost loved ones... and now we're considering moving troops to North Korea, Pakistan, and god knows where else...
We probably already have troops in China, US Navy has Naval Bases on every continent already so I bet the USAF or US Marines have some troops stationed there
This song goes great with Black Hawk Down. My heroes were in Operation Gothic Serpant. Their names' were MSG. Gary Gordon and SFC. Randy Shughart. They gave it their all for a man they barely knew. They knew what they were getting into when the went down to that chopper. I think they deserve our thanks.
Well said Saburocks, I don't think I could meet anyone around who would volunteer to go up against a crowd about 300-strong knowing you wouldn't survive just for the slight possibility that you could help someone live.
Gordon and Shughart gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure Durant lived, and they won't be forgotten.
Indeed, when its said like that, the basic concept sounds very simple. Buying someone you like a gig ticket rather than buying it for yourself is the same principle - putting others needs above your own. The principle sounds so simple. But to actually face a crowd that big, knowing you have pretty much next to no chance of survival, just for the remote possibility that someone might be, and may be in the future, alive, is something I don't think many people can do.
@TheDarkFrontier It takes a very rare breed for sure. I think men like Shughart and Gordon are born to be warriors. Courage like that cannot be taught.
@Saburocks101 those two men are the definition of heroes. Going up against odds they knew were stacking against them, and they saved that man. Their families, as devastated as they were and still are with his death, nearly 18 years later, must be incredibly proud
@Saburocks101 can i just say i totally agree with you but the pilot they went in to save the movie depicts that they knew him farely well didn't it im just wondering not trying to critisize you!

@Saburocks101 they were and are heroes, risking their own live to save just one other. i dont think i'd be able to go back if i were in their position (to speak the most honest truth), they went up against odds of 100s to one, i wish i could meet them. RIP
