or the toyota 4age or 7mge the 4age has whats called TVIS toyota variable induction system 2 stage type deal so that you dont lose low end torque, I love the 4age built in 1985 it redlined at 7250 and still went till 9000 I love my car!! the FX16GTS smokes all these sho's were talkin 1985 here guys LOL mines an 87 but same motor!! the japs lovem, then came the V-TECH v v t veriable valves now toyota and everyone does the valve thing lol
@juggernautxtr Yes, however the first generation Probe did receive the Vulcan 3.0L V6 from the Taurus in 1990 through the first generation, then received a Mazda KL-03 for the second generation.
@ricky52881 Because this motor was originally designed to be put into a mid-engine supercar that Ford was contemplating back in the 80's, then after having a hand full of engines built, never went through with. The engine was built off of the Taurus's engine, so it would just fit right into it, so in 1989 they introduced the Taurus SHO. The Probe only debuted in 1989, and it wasn't until 1991 that they fitted a V6. The second generation probe used a much smaller 2.5 Mazda V6, and didn'g need it.
that does have a nice soound to it. you can hear the sound change. I know Im gonna get it for this but what are secondaries? is it similar to old holly carbs that have larger openings when you go past half throttle?.
The SHO V6 has two sets of intake runners, short and long. At 3950RPM, the ECU commands the butterflies in the 6 short runners to open, increasing performance at the higher RPM's. Butterflies closed below 3950, and the engine has more usable low end torque.
sweet car, i wish i could get mine back or another one. so much fun to drive. mine was red as well, but im looking for a dark green one. it makes a nice sleeper car.
yo who in here knows how much of the exhaust i can remove and not lose torgue, i was thinking just getting rid of the mufflers but i want to know if just that will lose torqye due to not enough backpressure
Why not just get a catless Y-pipe? You'll lose some torque, but you'll gain lots of top end....you'd be amazed at the difference in top end acceleration that the catless Y-pipe gets. The proof of that is "juniorn316" and his two videos: one against an Acura TL-S, the other against a CL-S....in the first video, the SHO was stock and only won by about three car lengths....in the second video with the catless Y-Pipe, he absolutely wrecked essentially the same car by bus lengths.
V-TEC Killer!!!! The sad part is at 7000 rpm, this engine doesn't sound the slightest bit uncomfortable...it could rev even higher. Imagine if this car had a redline of 8000-8500and a modified power band to fit this redline? Unstoppable. The only sedan that makes beautiful engine music IMO.
hear that v-tec kick!!! i'm just kidding my buddy has a 93 sho and he just cut the cats off so he has open down pipes omg that thing sounds sick, (he was test to see if his cat's where clogged.)
lol vtec.. nope no vtec here baby, just pure genious
IMO the 89 3.0L DOHC yamaha is where ford learned how to build an engine
they used some of this technology in the 4.0l SOHC which has primary and secondary intake runners but its only SOHC. but personally i would rather have 2 cams vs 4 cams.. thats alot of stuff that can wear out.
Yeah never said Ford built the engine. What i said was Ford learned how to build an engine from this Yamaha engine. Notably in their use of the 4.0L SOHC 4.6L SOHC / DOHC with varied use of the technologies that went into the yammy 3.0/3.2
0:18 - 0:21 and 0:26 - 0:35 What a sound!.. I like Taurus!

why didnt they put this motor in the probes instead of a heavy 4 door taurus?

@ricky52881
probes were actually a mazda car. ford did as little as possible to them.

@ricky52881 i don't think it would fit. the sho motor is very beefy compared to the probes 2.0 4cyl or the 2.5 v6

@karkraz Excuse me, I went back and looked, it was the 1990 model year they offered the first V6 in a Probe.

Yeah, so did I , despite the 90º temps in the shop, and the fuel mixture issues (sub 12:1 AFR's FTL).
I've corrected those issues since, and am going to get dyno'd this weekend coming up. Videos and results will be posted then.

For anyone who wants to know, this car dynoed at 194WHP/192WTQ.
