Boy I remember when this happened and people were saying she was faking and being overdramatic, but you could see the muscle tightening in her leg and it looked like it hurt. Sorry if my comment offended you. I probably should have thought more before I posted. I mean, I'm glad she won, because she really deserved it after everything she fought through, I'm just also glad she didn't do any further damage. And I actually think Gasquet's playing pretty well, at the moment, wouldn't you agree?
Then when she held serve she asked to go again, even though the umpire had previously told her she had to go before the start of her own service game. So they carried on playing until the end of the match & eventually somehow managed to finish the match without actually going to the toilet, but still drinking loads of water and didn't seem in any mad rush to get off the court to go even then! Some might say that was gamesmanship to try to make Hantuchova wait when it was her turn to serve.
I don't know if she was really hurt or not but what I do know is that in the final set she asked if she could go to the toilet after she held her serve, as she had been drinking lots of water & the umpire told he no, as it was Hantuchova's turn to serve but she could go at the end of that game. She then argued for a bit, saying how desperate she was as she had been drinking lots of water, yet as soon as she broke serve, she carried on (taking in water still) as the momentum was with her.
I so agree with smartj08, some people are just haters its so sad people cant just apreciate great talent. Serena will defiantely go down in history for one of the best Tenniss games ever!

Boy I remember when this happened and people were saying she was faking and being overdramatic, but you could see the muscle tightening in her leg and it looked like it hurt. Those announcers and haters get on my nerves when they make negative comments about Serena. But she has my support, GOB SERENA! Serena is a touch girl, and some people would've just threw the match but she stayed and fought through pain to win the match anyway, she's a great champion and she will be number 1 again!

she's a truly champion...
it reminds me about venus during wimbledon semi-final 2003 match against clijster...
she also was having severe injury but managed to battle thru to find her way to the final...
that's what both williams sister have proven to the whole entire world why they are the truly queens of tennis every now and again...

I felt bad for Serena here but seriously people are making too big a deal of this. Many tennis players get injured and carry on bravely and nobody says anything then. Just because she was one of the very few American players left in the tournament, the Americans make a huge deal out of it. Get a grip.
Serena is an extremely talented tennis player and I'm glad she managed to carry on this match but if the rain hadn't come, it might have been a different story.

You're a fucking idiot mate. Open your eyes and see that Serena was behaving badly during this match. I have no doubt she was injured but she asked to go to the bathroom when she was losing, the umpire said no and then when she was winning, she didn't need to go anymore. How odd...NOT.

Serena took 3 liters of saline drink.Asked for toilet break during change over.Umpire denied coz it was dainela's serve.He allowed her to go later but she didn't.Odd that umpire can let her go in between games but not in a changeover.

No I agree that she was seriously injured. That's what I was writing about before, how I PERSONALLY didn't think she should have kept playing if the doctors said she could threaten her career. But yeah, it was her choice to keep playing.

I really hate Serena; I prefer Venus, who is not the stereotype of an obnoxious American, but I felt bad for her watching this. I think she was really stupid to continue playing when her doctor said she could ruin her career, and that stuff really makes me mad, because it's like, hello, this is their job, they know what they're talking about, but I mean, you could see the cramp in her leg. She was obviously not faking. And I also feel bad for Hantuchova, 'cos Serena was lucky it rained.

Then when she held serve she asked to go again, even though the umpire had previously told her she had to go before the start of her own service game. So they carried on playing until the end of the match & eventually somehow managed to finish the match without actually going to the toilet, but still drinking loads of water and didn't seem in any mad rush to get off the court to go even then! Some might say that was gamesmanship to try to make Hantuchova wait when it was her turn to serve.

I don't know if she was really hurt or not but what I do know is that in the final set she asked if she could go to the toilet after she held her serve, as she had been drinking lots of water & the umpire told he no, as it was Hantuchova's turn to serve but she could go at the end of that game. She then argued for a bit, saying how desperate she was as she had been drinking lots of water, yet as soon as she broke serve, she carried on (taking in water still) as the momentum was with her.
