@tillschmischke I'm pretty sure that's the shsh error. for this, you will have had to save your shsh files along the way and starting up the tinyumbrella server before running itunes for the fw custom restore. My guess is you have not saved any shsh files in which case you are fooked except to flash the same fw version that's currently on the phone. without shsh files, you cannot use any other old ios.

@BlazingTiger14 yes it will work. be very careful what you do though. Do not inadvertenly update from your ios 4.0.1 to a stock firmware eithery by yourself or by letting itunes do it. You WILL lose your currently unlockable baseband.

look up "custom ipsw" in the version and build it. The absolute very first thing you need to do is get "tiny umbrella" to save whatever shsh files you can...but i'm not too optimistic about what's still available (determined by apple).

@theAlvinTran : there are two ways to activate it without an AT&T Sim card.

-- First method : you can find and download the ACTIVATED custom firmware for Locked version on the internet, then use it to restore your phone. After restoring, it will boot up by itself, no need to use the AT&T sim card. (but make sure to insert your sim card when booting up)

-- Second method : If you use the NON-ACTIVATED custom firmware for Locked version, you have to H@CKATIVE your phone by jailbreaking.

This is TERRIBLY misleading...

You should seriously take this video down because it no longer works with IOS 5.0 and an iphone on 4.x...and one can't use IOS 5.0.1 unless they're already on 5.0 with a preserved baseband.

hey, I'm on IOS 4.3.3 now, but I upgraded to IOS 5.0 a months ago with updated baseband. I successfully downgrade it back to IOS4.3.3. Now I really wanna get back into IOS5.0, some how, I'll try hundreds ways. Didnt work and Itunekeep showing error 3194, 2005,1604. I event create a No BB IPSW. But error always shows up! yes this will work but every time you reboot your phone you will have to manually unlock it with redsn0w as there is no untethered jailbreak (that i've found). dont let your battery die!
