Wow, performa hebat! Tapi, no.3 jadi kurang cerlang karena ketutup bayangan 2 waltz sebelumnya dan seolah-olah hanya pengantar untuk no.4. Padahal, no 3 seperti no. 15 cukup kuat memiliki karakteristik sendiri untuk dimainkan dan dinikmati secara terpisah..
i find it intriguing that this interpretation of the third waltz resonates so deeply for many. to me his choice of rubato and emphasis in the melody feels stilted, like every measure interrupts the last. personally i find the third waltz to be one of the most passionate pieces in the romantic repertoire, so full of tender yearning and melancholy, and i agree that rubato, in generous heaps, is appropriate...but for me his choices void the piece of that mellifluous quality that makes it so special
@androidpimp, I understand your misgivings, but I think many people, myself included, aren't exposed to much classical music (which is why youtube is so great), and we tend to fall in love with the first performer we hear play our future favorites. I know I have.
"Dancing" by the piano is not something, one could easly controle. On the contrary: it's rather sth subconcious. Nevertheless, playing a tune doesn't mean, one is obligated to feel it with whole body! From my own experience I know, that most beautifull playing is when pianist remains calm. And in this clamness he feels a tune and understands it. Going crazy by the piano only destroys emotions. Performing is not about indominated emotions, but about focus and consciounsness of tone and tune.
being a pianist myself, i take offense to that comment. the swaying back and fourth is a part of the emotions the piece brings out in you. it has absolutely nothing to do with "shows for the audience". a piece should have an emotional connection with the player, for the audience to gain something from it. the way the pianist plays a piece, swaying and all, is how they connect with it. just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's ridiculous.

I really like the first waltz. Brahms has a lot of great waltzes.

The third waltz is magical and achingly
beautifully played and the fourth is ablaze
with fiery passion. Would like to hear it
smoulder a little more. Thank you for
this posting.

The first is in B major, the second in E major, the third in g sharp minor, and the last in e minor
jpage99999 3 years ago 2

The fourth one was too fast in my opinion, otherwise nicely played.

I love being able to hear Brahms again. Why doesn't anyone ever perform this luscious music anymore?
