One correction: The line in WKU's fight song should be "The red and white above the Heights". "Heights" refers to "College Heights", the name of the hill that the main campus in Bowling Green is on - yes they actually ARE "Hilltoppers"!
@observer9670 Unfortunately, I go by what the athletic or academic websites show me, so, the lyrics I have now are also found on the WKU academic site.
@excelsior27 You ought to reply to 1mizzoufan so that his lyrics for SE Missouri St. can be seen by all in your "uploader comments" section. Or we can just hope that viewers will keep his comment voted up in the top comment area. Otherwise it will be buried on the last page of the "all comments" section where it won't likely be read as easily.
@14Hodges In performances, they play it twice, once in the "Ohio" key before moving up to the "Western" key. I'm not exactly a musician, if you couldn't tell. ;) NCAA just used the second half of the song, probably so they could have the flourish at the end of it.
interesting that there are only 3 universities in the US that have the Bobcat as their mascot (Ohio, Montana State and Texas State) and 2 of them have the same fight song. Ohio of course is the original, founded nearly a century before the other two. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. GO OHIO.
When I was going to WKU in the 70's, the line was "For today we raise the red and white above the Heights." "Heights" was a reference to the hill in Bowling Green known as "College Heights", where WKU got the nickname Hilltoppers from. It is actually located on a hill. At the top of the hill is a statue of the school's founder with the motto "The Spirit Makes The Master." We students thought it should have been "The Master Makes Spirits" ;-).
Mon. St. lyrics is the same as my high school... SEMO sounds the same. Stand Up and Cheer Cheer for dear old Hayes High For today we rise our flag above all others (dun dun dun) Stand Up and Cheer, our boys are sure to win we got the vim, we want to win, for dear old Hayes High School GO HAYES!!!
Who had it first. KU had it when they were made and I think they were made before any of these schools. KU was made in 1863. Were Columbia, Ohio, WKU, Montana St. or S.E. Missouri made before 1863?
@brian8556 Don't know when we adopted this fight song, but Ohio University was chartered in 1787 and founded in 1804. It is the oldest public university in the old Northwest Territory.
Ohio University used Stand up and cheer for the first time in 1910.It was written by a music director from Princeton who had become the director of Ohio University
Actually, this song was originally created for the University of Kansas as a Fight Song, But I'm A Jayhawk is their official fight song and this is a secondary one.
Well, I have heard, but what this video shows is that it has all the universitites that use the song as their main fight song. I know Kansas does not use it as their main fight song. UND is likely, but I have huge doubts.
Here are the Lyrics that I have found for SEMO: Fight, Red-Hawks, Fight For the Southeast banner, On-ward to Vic-to-ry For the Red & Black Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight, Red-Hawks, Fight Show your colors true! Go on to Vic-to-ry! Go on to Vic-to-ry! Your spir-it will shine through!
@Rexkwondotyger I agree with you, did you see the play vs Sam Houston where the catch was caught with one hand and on his helmet?

SEMO can enjoy its generic fight song while Murray State whips them in basketball this year with an ORiGINAL fight song.

If Ohio's fight song is in this key, then NCAA football 08 accidentally gave them the Western Kentucky version

Stand up and cheer
stand up and cheer for North Dakota
pledge your loyalty
for she's your Alma Mater true
our team is fighting and we'll be sure to see them through
we got the team (rah! rah!)
we got the steam (uff-dah!)
so North Dakota here's to you!
It's our main fight song
