  • How could they possibly have missed the coolest part of Uptown called McDonald's at Lagoon and Hennepin?

  • I lived in Uptown in the early 80s before Calhoun Square. There was less traffic congestion, and the McDonalds at Lagoon and Hennepin, which they don't show in this vid, was the local neighborhood meeting place. Uptown in 1980 was a throwback to the 60s and bringing in Calhoun Square brought about the eviction of many artists and interesting people who lived above the shops on Hennepin where Calhoun Square is now. It looks like Uptown has continued to grow and now is over populated and upscale.

  • I lived on west 24th, I miss it so... Minnesota oh so nice

  • Okay what exactly is "Minnesota Nice"? I'm hazy on the definition. I take it to mean "nice, polite, and helpful but not up in your business." Is that accurate to say? I guess it depends what your definition of friendly is. That definition is friendly to me, because I'm the same way.

I personally find Twin Cities people friendly. I'll help you out and be polite, but you're not coming to my house for a barbeque the day after we just met. Too nice is creepy, insincere... desperate...

  • Clown Glass is cool

  • whoa at like :10 that's a block from my house!

  • City its magic, i am From Brazil i like Minneapolis!

  • I am moving to Stevens Square very soon. Will that be as nice as Uptown?

  • Say whatever you guys want. Live in Minneapolis for a while, any part, and you'll see the truth for yourself. I've lived in Minnesota in the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area my whole life. And Uptown is a lot different than in the video...lol. Yeah.

  • Minneapolis <3

  • MANY FRIENDS UP THERE, WHEN I WAS THERE MANY PLACES TO GOO , BY DAY AND NIGHT AND ALL THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY, SMILING MOOSE, CALHOUN SQUARE, FIRST AV., OLD CHICAGO, CC CLUD, DONT REMEMBER THE CAFE IN 24TH AND LINDALE OR HENNEPIN? CROOS BY LANDING TOWER OF PIZZA? DONT REMEMBER ALL THE CLUBS NAMES, BUT MUCHA DIVERSION EN MINNEAPOLIS, UP TOWN.

  • I miss the Uptown part of Minneapolis. I lived there 22 years ago...........

  • Oh yeah!! Home. Man, I love Minneapolis.

  • Its whiteyville

  • @mssedmebich yeah uptown and downtown are white, North is black, midtown is brown and a mile east of uptown are terrorist(muslims) lol

  • @jvmc08 LOL SO FCKN FNNY. You're an idiot.

  • @jvmc08 come on i hope you dont live in minneapolis its nothing like you said

color has nothing to do with it ugh!!!

  • Winters are taxing and summers aren't that pleasant either.

If you like to fish and hunt, like extremely diverse and open-minded people, then Minnesota is the place for you.

  • im living in AZ now and just had an interview over the phone with target corparate. If i get the job I get to move to minni. I hope i get the job, i need to get out of this heat!

  • Bland, Bland, bland, bland. I'm sick these kids. They've taken over London, New York, even Minneapolis. That's it i'm moving to either New Orleans, Detroit (Black trash), Glasgow or Dresden (White trash). I hate 'nice' and 'cool'. Bland!

  • @peteradaniel It sucks that you think where I'm from is whack.

But as long as that's enough to keep your ass from coming back!

  • Hipster, Yuppy bullshit! "Fall, Spring, Winter, Summer". OMG! They have fucking seasons in Minneapolis. Quick let's go! Please stop selling cities with this Boho crap. I want to see crack pipes, reality, urban squalor, that's what made going to the city fun. NYC in the old days.

  • what's the place where you get that chicken called?

  • Minneapolis is gay and lesbian paradise. Nothing but garbage. Not a good place to visit.

  • @Tennessee44444 unless you like music or art. obviously don't really know what you're talking about.

  • @Tennessee44444 And Tennessee is inbred, hick territory. Big deal.

  • this city is actually great.i love minnesota

  • Why just shoot in winter? I would love to see a spring/summer/fall version to see the beauty of the City then as well...Since I'm getting relocated there...:-) Oh, I'm a fellow duche bag Realtor too...lol

  • So many hipsters.

  • i miss home i gotta live in a crappy town in texas now....

  • captures the vibe of the Minni Apple really nicely. i love living here.

  • No offense at all, but this isn't anywhere close to the actual image of Uptown.

  • Excellent video! I miss Mn so much. The women are gorgeous!

  • Love the shopping in Uptown!

  • Uptown is ok. It isn't as nice as other gentrified areas or yuppy areas in other big cities in the US. It has nothing on some of the Northside neighborhoods of Chicago for an example in the Midwest.

  • Uptown is full of college kids from wisconsin who drink too much, rich naggin bimbo's and yuppies who wanna be hip! Uptown was nice in 86'

  • @mukwah70 I agree with you on that one. I'm from St. Paul and have lived in Minneapolis, but don't really care for uptown that much. I just went to Cheapo records and maybe would have a drink sometimes. I haven't lived in Minnesota in like almost 9 years. Like you said, rich yuppies that think they are so ultra hip because we are different because we all live in the same hip place.

  • You should have seen Uptown in the 80s. Golden days. So many young people. Baby boomers everywhere. I grew up there. The 70s were still families mixed with head shops and hippies. 80's were a mix of everything from punkers, rockers and higher-end (Prince) glamour types. 90's started to slide a bit. Now, it's still nice, but there just aren't as many young people. The edge has been taken off the vibe of the place. I still visit. Always fun to go back.

  • i love uptown. i think blue sky sells the best ice creams around the world. around the world around the world.

  • its great here in the summer, kind of harsh the other 9 months of the year. Should do this film again in july.

  • ...but WHY are they slow with the repairs? IT'S SO WHEN THEIR TENENTS MOVE, THEY CAN CHARGE THEM FOR THE SO-CALLED DAMAGES THEY MADE...DAMAGES? I thought the landlord was SUPPOSED to fix that toilet? Damages? That carpet was two-toned when the LAST OWNERS OWNED THIS PLACE??? Why didn't dadders offer to repair the carpet when they bought the property from the previous owners? So they can charge the new dumb tenants the cost of the carpet and they get better tax write-offs. Dishonest company.

  • Hello people of STP and MPLS adn those who want to move here...STAY AWAY FROM DADDERS PROPERTIES IN ST. PAUL, MN! They are all about the money even though they don't spend much on their property. They TRIED to sue the city of saint paul and the city SUED THEM FOR UNFAIR PRACTICES. Google: Dadders Property complaints, or call the city of saint paul to confirm any suspicions. If you have section 8, make sure you keep a open line of communication because DADDERS IS SLOW WITH THE REPAIRS....

  • i just recently moved away from minneapolis to new york.

i lived downtown in the city area and I really liked it.

uptown on the other hand was another matter... it's not diverse... it's quite sad. the only minorities are basically homeless people. and as for the whole "cool coffee shop and bar" vibe, it really gets old. a bunch of people sitting around doing nothing, but drinking coffee??

    boring..

and the place is infested with hipsters.. it's basically a white neighborhood.. depressing.

  • hi like minneapolis uptown was trhere this summer great fr johnnyhb.

  • Looks like New jersey and less classier than Europe but ,if you drink some vodka it would be good to walk around

  • @deansusky

Minnesota doesnt look like new jersey at all! why post such a stupid comment?

  • I have to go to this town for business and after seeing this video I really really don't want to go. It looks like Claremont, CA but 50 times colder. I am pretty sure I won't arrive and think "oh I gotta move here." I stick with where I am at 40 minutes away from Hollywood, CA. I can experience all the seasons there too but not get snowed in unless I want to go to Mt. Baldy. I think California beats out this state by a landslide.

  • i think you must have never experienced seasons if u think California has seasons, dude Hollywood sucks balls its so dirty there theres homeless everywhere and the place smells like piss people are rude ass fuck too

  • California fucking sucks dude.

  • continued...or they might just be pathological liars if they dont get paid. and the weather in minnesoata gets way tooo cold; it can get so cold that after I get inside from the outside cold, and if I have to go pee, I cant even find my penis, since it has retracted so far into my abdomen for woarmth from just being outside! dont come here if anyone is condiesidering; I am actually lookin to get out myself. but if you have a job offer to come to minnesota, okay then I guess you have not choic

  • sounds like words from someone who has never lived anywhere else. we drive slow compared to most of the rest of the nation and people are incredibly nice. not incredibly outgoing maybe but incredibly nice none the less. theres a reason its called minnesota nice. but yeah you can get out we dont need ya

  • is that you in the picture of your youtube account? you look hot as shit! I ll fuck you no problem.

  • rigatony091, i cant get out, i need to stay here, too many hot bitches hot as shit to fuck; i need these fuckin hot as shit bitches.

  • @rigatony019 I've lived in a few other cities but Minneapolis, especially the uptown area, is by far the one place I would readily return to.

  • minnesota (twin cities) people are bad drivers; real jerks, just to let people know in case they think about coming here! like I say real jurk drivers on the road; no patience for other people; if you drive just 5 miles per hour, "everyone" thinks you must be like 90 years old. people here drive way tooo fast; they will not let you merge into traffic; real expensive to live here tooo. these people in the video must be preffesional actors or they must get paid for lying on this video;

  • lol we have trees

  • sooo wooo south side mpls life!

  • HAHA thoes real estade agents 2:36 look like total d-bags.

  • @ElliotQQ2 Real Estate agents and douche-bags? Isn't that what is called a redundant sentence?

  • @ElliotQQ2 and u dont

  • i am from italy and i have lived in minnesota for 6 months...i have visited lots of times uptown and i think this video reflects really well what i remember about this place, actually it makes me miss it!

  • good, you should come back :)

  • the worst parts of Minneapolis are Uptown and DinkyTown, its all scenester bullshit- nothing cool is happening.

  • WOOHOO!!! Minneapolis rules!!!

  • I live there... love it. The only not so great part is the freezing winters. But everything is great during fall spring and SUMMER. WOOHOO

  • I was raised in Uptown. Uptown is not Uptown anymore. When GAP takes over Mr. Fashion, I have issues with that.

  • Nice city, but it is too cold. 6-month winters of -40 is unbearable.

  • You gotta be born and raised from Minnesota to be able to bare Minnesota winter's.

  • I can believe that. I'm from Dallas, Texas and it gets very cold there in the winter, sometimes down to zero. Here in CT, I've seen it get to -10 and that's okay even in short sleeves if there is no wind. Minnesota gets colder than much of Alaska, so I imagine that only a native, a Canadian, or a Russian could bear that type of winter.

  • the winters are long, but it's not -40

  • Minnesota doesn't see anything like -40. that's way too cold. the coldest it got last winter was -10.

  • excellently done film, great job. uptown is fun :)

  • uptown is really fun! when i was younger me and my friends would go there at 6 am and spend the whole day there till midnight lol

  • a while back i was in minnesota and i really hope i don't have to ever go back their in my life most of the people are assholes maybe i should have gone to the uptown lol

  • nah.. people in Uptown are assholes too. Its just the trendy, hipster way of thinking: "i am too cool for cool"

    "Minnesota nice" is a MYTH.

  • There's assholes everywhere you go. Minneapolis is no different.

  • Well, I have now seen it all. Guys fight online over the most stupid things and everything just about.

Women fight online about how nice the place they live is :P

    Crazy world!

  • There are rude people here but I have found them every where else I have been to but here there are those who want to be nice I spend a lot of time at Dunn Bros coffee on 34th henp. most of the people are cvil to each other i think its a midwestern thing manners still count nobody enjoys rudeness

  • Chino Latino is incredible. I love downtown MN but living in the suburbs sucks.

  • lucky basterd! I grew up around chicago and franklin

  • Lived in uptown 2 years. Loved it. Thanks for letting me go back for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Surprised you didn't show Cheapo Music. I like lived there until i found Electric Fetus of course. Then i lived there. Anyway, thanks again.

  • YAY!moving there...someday on 2012...when i get to school of nursing!YAY!!

  • Yeah I just finished my 1st year of College, and I'm going to graduate around 2012 (hopefully). I currently live in Chicago, and I want to move to Minneapolis.

  • hahha...2012...would be my first year of college and you'll graduate on that year...aww..no fun!maybe we can still meet each in Minneapolis!people there are nice :)

  • Damn i remember living in minneapolis not that i hate were i live now but i would like to go back there for a few weeks.

  • rofll|||||| i live in minneapolis, i liked St. Cloud better but its ok here. lots of drugs and parties up in cloud, it was fun as hell

  • MN SUCKS!!!! i lived in Uptown near lake Calhoun, 'cause i thought it would be fun, but it wasnt. Then i decided to move to St Paul but it was too ghetto and there was nothing to do, i now live in Woodbury and is boring as hell, but at least its safe. People here are just not fun. Chicago is one of the BEST cities to live in, I LOVE IT and i wish i could move back

  • So get the eff out then

  • Who are you to tell ppl what to do? Cant anyone give their opinion anymore? Minnesota is beautiful, but not a friendly state, thats a fact. Read more and educate yourself.

  • I live in Minnesota and I completely disagree. If you don't like where you live, what's the point in staying? Get the eff out if you hate it so much.

  • Either you are dumb or stupid! When did i say i hated MN? I work for a large company and i get to live here and there, not my choice little girl.

  • Idiot, I was referring to the person whom I commented in the first place, not YOU. Mind your own business next time.

  • Well you sure have the Minnesota nice down :P

  • Lol I'm originally from NY

  • That is where I would move to.

Minnesota Nice is just an Urban Legend anyhow :P

  • Uhh, have you never heard of the term "Minnesota nice?" I live in MN and it's not bad.

  • why do you talk about opinions when you cant even tell them apart from facts? it is not a fact that minnesota is non-friendly. its your opinion. We are only assholes to the haters. :)

  • How dumb can you be saying St. Paul is ghetto when you are from fucking Chicago? Chicago is one of the most dangerous places in the country. Minnesota doesn't really have any ghettos. Just a bunch of posing white boy wanna be gangsters.

  • I Agree. n mpls is the closest thing mn has to a ghetto which is nothing compared to larger cities,,, what we do have is a fun crazy downtown

  • too true, although I can't stand Minneapolis, far too crowded. The people are nice there at least, but everybody has their "image" to portray, as viewed by the outstandingly "artsy" people these jackasses are spewing about. Also, lake Calhoun is polluted. Suburbs are where it's at.

  • @invertedteapot suburbs are where it's at? what's "it"? there's nothing there!

  • @thryn11 its really not a suburb at all

  • @hiphopson oh, no, no. I was responding to someone who was saying that the suburbs were better than the city. I know it's not a suburb. :P

  • how the fuck is it racist?

  • um racist? not my experience. in fact, its one of the most progressive places i've been.

  • he or she is probably judging from a small group of people. it's best just to ignore comments like this.

  • WOOT WOOT!! UPTOWN BAY-BAY!!!

Loving my life living around Uptown XD

I have everything I need here^^ It's like paradise everyday XD

  • word

  • Is there anything else in Uptown than what was shown??? I think they got it all.

  • True I seen Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's with steve winwood in Minneapolis.I like going to the met to go watch the twins,I also like hennepin avenue because of the music scene with all the bands, valley fair,Mall of America. The twin cities have it all.

  • Uptown is great - though there is the very real danger of it becoming too gentrified. Building normal housing would have been a far better move than the condos that are going up on Lake Street.

  • i love minneapolis a lot bitches and whores

  • Soundtrack Pro/Garageband loops!

  • Minneapolis promising for students? easy to find jobs? I am kinda considering attending graduate school in the twin city university..

  • It's the whole we are MN nice. Yeah till they get in the car. Then just stupid from there

  • What's twin city university?

  • moving from ny to mn was a big mistake...someone please tell me why do ppl here get mad when i honk??? please i wana know

  • no clue why that happens

  • they think you are mad, and im sorry you don't like it here, because i do!

  • Ah fuck, i used to live in Minneapolis, great city. Too bad my folks moved us out to bumfuck egypt out in the sticks when i was just a kid.

  • i lived on down off nic and lake. i liked it there. not uptown, but close. i always liked it down lyndale and around the whittier neighborhood. MPLS is a great city.

  • Then, like you, they get mad about being called out and act really childish. I'm real happy I could bring out the immaturity in you, sir. If you don't want "no-it-alls" to troll you, don't post stupid shit in the first place.

  • I think you meant to write "know it all". No one threatened you, I simply made an offer. I can't punch you through the internet. If I could it would've happened already. And your "I know you are but what am I" logic is mature? I wasn't arguing with you, merely trying to get my initial point across: Fuck off. Go back under your bridge, mr. troll.

  • And I'm not from White Bear Lake, nor any other suburb. You're just one of those idiots who spouts things that make you sound bitter and angry at the world, I made a simple (valid) point, and all you can respond with is insults. Congratulations.

  • i like uptown i go there its nice as heck but i live in south mpls

  • Again, "Bigtophalloween", moving is quite a simple process if you don't like "overprivileged rich pricks". I think perhaps you just like being unreasonably angry.

  • I remember I was rollin & walking around uptown XD

    it was cool.

  • I live in Uptown Plaza apartments and i love it , is close to everywhere downtown - uptown by 23 and pleasant ,i love go to the uptown bar and work in Downtown , Love MINNEAPOLIS

  • my nose bled when i was there in the winter.

  • I have lived in Uptown now for six months and I love it here. Everyone's open-minded and minds their own business, a lot to do and I work 6.5 miles away. Not sure how anyone could not love it here.

  • Yeah, there are a lot of East African immigrants moving here, and they are largely upstanding, good people, which is exactly what you can say about any group of people, including whatever bs majority group you seem to be inferring. What are you getting at, anyway?

  • Simply that Minn/St. Paul is on a slipperly slope downward.

  • yea i kinda agree i get robed at least once every month in minneapolis but thats on the outer area by the end of downtown though

  • Getting robbed sux. Been there several times. Home breakins.

  • hahahahha what?!?!?!?!? I've lived here for years, and have spent the night in places all over the city. I have never even came close to getting robbed...you must have some pretty shitty luck, man.

  • no not bad luck... I am just white and those guys think that because their black that they own the city and thats what they told me

  • I've read Minn/St. Paul is going Somali. Is that true?

  • Uptown USED TO be the place to be. Too YUPPIE now. Check out northeast mpls if you really want to see a cool 'hood.

  • figlio is the best restaurant on that corner

  • eesh. although the filmaker does a good job with this vid, i'm so sorry, the city is UG.

  • you haven't spent enough time in minneapolis.

  • country bar bitches!

  • HOME!!! ((sigh-ya-all))

  • WOW..at 2:55 that Buick road master car is me. I live in rural Minnesota near uptown =p

  • Anyone remember the carrot flasher that used to flash people around lake calhoun? He walked around the lake with a trenchcoat on and would flash people his ass because he had a carrot stuck in it, LOL. Ya, uptown is just the greatest.

  • I'm so glad to be out of there after living in it for 11 years. Uptown sucks balls now. Nothing but little teeny boppers emos, goths and scenesters. If you aren't gay, there's no reason for you to be in uptown.

  • Yeah Uptown! I lived there for 5 years on Humboldt and Lagoon...I miss being close to the Greenway. But it was kinda noisy there that was the biggest drawback...and an occasional inner city scum would show up at my door hitting me up for some bogus donation BS...

  • fuck uptown!!! south side clinton for life bitch! st. stevens!!! community gardens!! hawaii nigga!! yeah.I went to the mental hospital 3 times in two months cause of all the uptown racist yuppies and cops.

  • this town looks cool, How are the local bands.

  • its minneapolis the music scene for every genre kicks ass...(except maybe country, but there is some bad ass bluegrass) there are literally thousands of bands. most of the time you have to choose which show to go to cause there is so much going on.

  • do you know if there are any good places to go to hear electronic music (especially trance)?

  • okay so i just moved to uptown from sunny southern cali and let me tell you its no city at all... If you don't like to spend your whole paycheck on booze and designer clothes there is no scene at all... the people pretend to be nice but shut you out of their daily lives. friends don't come easy and i'm paying just as much in rent for a studio apt here as i was in hollyhood. the music scene is nothing but crunchy folky emo shit other than extreme noise & a few punks. O yea its -35 in winter too

  • then go home please if youre hanging around uptown you are a dousche go walk around the lakes actually no just leave bye

  • I love how NICE you are... you just told me to go home PLEASE... you just proved half of my point... I don't hang around Uptown i live here... and clearly i agree with alot of people here about the general atmosphere, maybe you should read the rest of the comments. I have walked around the lakes and they are beautiful, but they still aren't a beach... and its too bad you haven't uploaded a single video of your own... how's that for being a douche... learn to spell

  • fuck you and fuck cali.

your probably just another trendy fucking scenester anyways.

go back to your trashy life in hollywood.

  • actually i'm not a scenester and if hollywood is so trashy why is everyone in the world trying to make it there... its whats called a mecca... i wouldn't much shit about it when your out or around there either remember what happened to biggie and all.... its too bad you have such a lousy attitude ... because i fucking love bad brains... oh well i guess it goes with the weather right?

  • did you just reference biggie? hahahahha... credibility-out the window. weather? no,i just think you're a prick.

  • i did just reference biggie. The LATE king of new york... as far as credibility goes maybe you should upload some videos of your own as well, that would give you some credibility. I don't care what you think about me because you are basing your entire outlook on a video reply designed as an advertisement for the uptown area, you are defending a fucking commerical, mr. punk rock... your not even worth my time... take your head out of ur ass, listen to some crass at least they have something to say

  • Hollywood is trashy! I lived near Hollywood for a number of years and it was pretty much rundown and filled with alot of riff raff!!!not a place I would want to raise children...

  • thank god i don't want to raise children of any sort... but if i did i doubt i could do it this sooo far away from disneyland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OF course...Uptown is cliquey! but that is what I like about it...if you want to make friends here it will take a long time. People have to get used to seeing you around for awhile before they start trusting you enough.

  • um, the punkers up and left a long time ago. now it's just hideous yuppies, suburban douchebags and other such scum of the earth. i grew up around there, and now i avoid it all costs. a shame what gentrification can do.

  • So working americans are worse than Somalian refugees?

  • uptown is full of homosexuals.lol it's second to san fransisco.

  • Very True! You often have to put them in their place because they are very agressive in Uptown...usually just mad dogging them sends them the message...

  • Uptown Minneapolis is a neat place, especially its nightlife.

  • too bad its fucking cold here all the fucking time.

  • Was there for 11 years. If you've seen Fargo, the creators are from that area, and you run into a lot of that weird sh?t in Minnesota that Fargo shows. The locals like to say they are nice, but there are plenty of folks from out of town that tend to be a lot more fun to get to know. After a few years a realized the local Minnesotans were a little off. Try to avoid the druggies if you can.

  • I grew up in the uptown neighborhood, and yip, there weren't that many kids to play with. But the one thing that comes to my mind when I think about uptown is the 'punk rockers'. That is so true!

  • I lived in uptown for 11 years, left in 2001. When I lived there, uptown was s cesspool of drugs. You can easily get any drug you want/need without looking too hard, anywhere in uptown, at the bars mostly, like Lyle's and the CC club.

  • "Lyle's and the CC club"

These places really are not in Uptown proper but are in their own neighborhoods.

  • The seasons but mostly winter....diverse in terms of professions, but not cultures...(at least not as diverse as NYC) But its true that the people are REALLY REALLY nice...

  • hey my name is lena and i'm living in germany, i move in 6 month to minneapolis, is tehre a chatroom which i can learn better to speak english?

  • I live in uptown, what i say you do is just go out and party and you will pick up what you need to know in no time.
