  • Very enjoyable thank you

  • love the video man

  • The truth

  • some sweet info here

  • Fascinating (r u fcking serious)!

  • what you should avoid is piss por logo's (like yours), beach balls, yellow roses and shit advice

    what a joke!

  • @numb3rtv You are so right! Beach balls for a professional commercial? I don't think so!

  • As an in-house designer I deal with this kind of stuff everyday. For some unknown reason EVERY person at a company has input on design when they should all be putting their 2 cents in about the sales departments. I love that people who have the lease knowledge on it are the ones that have the most to say.

  • Plumbers design your sink? Wow.

  • A designer should be a creative problem solver, and should help you avoid embarrassing things like dazzling beachballs and bland, uncommitted logos.

Find one in the Yellow Pages under 'plumber.'

  • As a graphic designer, I agree with this video.

I wish all clients were so, that when they were looking for a designer, they search for talent, experience, quality, not for price at the cost of quality. Unfortunately many designers today call themselves as such and disrepute the profession.

  • OMG and whoever designed her logo or whatever didn't even do a good job WTH?!

  • Stfu old lady

  • people like you will never get anything good designed. people like you are the reason why there are mediocre designs.

try 'collaborating' with your eye surgeon by giving ideas to him! lol

if u don't know anything about design just STFU

  • wtf?

  • Let super mario do his job. He's a plumber.

  • a plumber? ROFL

  • Be careful when working with a "creative officer". They will suck every little bit of your creative soul. Police are officers. Government officials. Not creatives. Ugh.

  • theres too much educated idiots QQ

  • ? Here is how the line will go. Clients should stop being cheap and pay Designer what they supposed to get paid. You get what you paid honey. When you see a bad design, dig in and you will find: Hurry up i need this now, now now now. I only have this amount of $ but I want a million dollar design and don't expect a design in 24 when you know it is a Project that takes a few days. Stay away from those reality TV shows that everything is done in 1hr. It is TV dum dum

  • Web design IS just that. Design. It's filly artwork any four-year-old can throw together, which is overlaid over a web developer's functional work.

People need to keep in mind that while web designers are worthless, web devs aren't. They're completely different fields.

  • @fuduzan5562 stupidest comment i have ever read on Youtube....and that says a lot.

  • @fuduzan5562 You know nothing of visual communication if you believe this. Yes, a lot of graphic designers are morons but when done right we can communicate more than your geek computer brain could ever comprehend.

  • May all your 'collaborations' come out as well as that idiotic ripoff logo that is as laughable as it is cheap, just like this video, and you.

  • Where Is The Advise?

  • this is great... she is so influencial....

  • Is this part of Adult Swim's Tim & Eric's Awesome Show???

  • @tovopro why yes.....yes it is....i believe it's a preview bump of the next season premiere...

    LOL

  • worst logo ever

  • I wanna do a burnout on her face

  • who is this bitch? justin biber's mom?

  • Nice beveled logo....

  • Comment removed

  • is this a joke?

  • This video sucks....I bet you designed it and that crappy logo that I could've did in fucking binary.

  • AllBussines, very nice logo!! Top-shaped. Very nice color selection to.

Im sure, that the REAL graphic designer design it. In Microsoft Word 2003.

  • She looks like she is one who gets angry very easily over the silliest of things. I don't know why I felt that within 2 secs of seeing and hearing her talk.

  • nice logo

    *rolls eyes*

  • I watched 3 times. Cheered me up!

  • Their logo has a bevel AND an outer glow. Enough said.

  • be careful when hiring a plumber to design your video

  • damn, have watched it three times now, I keep laughing....

  • Be carefull hiring a graphic designer who´s logo looks like that one..

  • look in the camera......

  • fail!

  • stupid

  • Hi, not that I'm jealous. But to have this kind of speach you have amazing graphics, and looks like that your problem solver, didn't do his job. If you need my help please visit websuperstudio . com

  • Wow...giving advice on design work when your video looks like it was built in Windows Movie Maker? Practice what you preach, or shut this channel down....it's embarrassing.

  • Theres a LOT of jealous people on here it bewilders me, I think oyu lovely Maria and wish you every success and happiness, you have worked hard and deserve it, all the best

  • To be completely fair to Maria, who seems a bit out of her element here, the Hot Studio (I just checked it out) is a pretty on-the-ball agency. Further, I think her point gets a bit lost in what's a hokey graphical presentation by AB. And it is true, some designers are not creative problem solvers, but those tend to be Jr. Designers. So for any biz people watching, don't be a low-baller and employ seasoned talent if you want results!

  • What's with the giant beach balls in the background and 90's swoosh logo? It's as if the video personifies that which they try to discuss.

  • Great video and content

Keep up the good work never give up

    shaun

  • you need to redo this video if you want to get your point across.

  • This video wouldn't have made me cry if, after she said make sure to be careful, she followed it up with something along the lines of "like we didn't"

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • great LOGO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.....who's ypur problem solver then?

  • I don't "collaborate" with my plumber. I don't tell the plumber how to do his job. i don't give advice, tips, or suggestions to my plumber. i don't try to nickel and dime cheap labor from my plumber.

I stand back, shut up, and let the pro fix the plumbing. That's why the plumber is there...because I don't know jackshit about plumbing.

  • @misterobvious haha! ur comment made my day

  • @misterobvious very well put

  • @misterobvious True!! And if you hire a plumber you pay him on the spot. A Designer most times gets paid 2 months after the work is done....

  • Who the fuck designed, shot and produced this shitty video? Your 11 year old niece maybe?

Having a business person making creative decisions is about as moronic as having a designer do your accounting.

  • Be very careful when trying to make a video fuckwit

  • your logo sux balls! you picked the wrong designer...

  • I guess she learned the hard way; by selecting a crappy designer who spewed that shit of a logo out for her.

Moral of the video: You get what you pay for! ;)

  • I drew your logo with a sharpie in my butthole.

  • I don't "pick" plumbers, or anything else. I choose or select.

  • The fact is, there are a lot of terrible designers out who will only listen to the client, yes that's right, they only listen to the client. Designers are under appreciated by the common client,& almost 70% of the clients that work with us think that they can do what we do, but, YOU CANNOT! I will not tell a heart surgeon how to fix my heart, just the same as you should not tell a designer how to fix their design. Last thing, go to a designer for his style, not because u want to change it.

  • har har har. I am going to be the world creative director, if it was not for this fart.

  • Super Mario Bros. Plumbing! DESIGNING kitchen sinks since 1985!

  • Be careful when choosing to be a graphic designer. Realize that you will have to deal with the dumbest people on earth - sales reps.

  • she reminds me of Sarah Palin.

  • Oh please who are you? Perhaps you should think of learning how to become a professional speaker, now wait why don't you just go back to working as a checker at Safeway (sorry Safeway checkers).

  • yeah and graphic designers, please watch out for those who think they know how to solve the problems and more creative than us. Well if you think you're better why wouldn't you just do it yourself? Lets me tell you something, there are millions ways crappy clients like you drive talented designers insane with your stupidity with no artistic sense.

  • Yeah, sure lady, except the fact that it's not the graphic designer's fault if their client is an idiot who has no idea what he/she's talking about. No sir, in fact, I CANNOT make your logo bigger (without ruining the composition), nor can I give it "the essence of orange, because my son likes that color".

  • Worst designed 50 seconds of my day... didn't even make sense!

  • Does beachball lady have the credentials to talk about this stuff?

  • @bustindustin01 Nope. If anything, I'd say it's the graphic designer needs to be careful who he or she chooses as their client.

  • Oh yes, just what we need. More idiots with input on how to do our job. Maybe we can sit in a circle, hold hands, and review your Microsoft Word markup together.

  • @The42ndFloor ...Its so sad, but it's so true... everyone thinks they can do what we do.

  • Very important point you've brought up through this video..thanks!

  • Yeah, find a designer that can solve problems that you can't solve for yourself- then get out of their way.

If you've done a good enough job of explaining your needs up front, you shouldn't expect or need to have a whole lot of fundamental input during the design process.

Don't be anxious to get involved and try to see yourself in the design. You're the not a professional designer. Trust your hiring ability, not your art directing ability.

    Fin.

  • Usually, you, should....Don't pick this woman as a presenter

  • yes we should to be sure to not choose a woman like this for nothing!!!

  • usually a designer has got a portfolio and you should base your choice on it. If it's not enough, check his/her CV and call the clients he/she worked for. And Stop posting this TOTALLY USELESS VIDEOS. Totally useless. One star.

  • I couldn't help but think "hey, they neglected to hire a designer for their brand and cover page to this video". I mean, if they can't find a "creative problem-solver" themselves, why listen to any of their so-called advice? The answer comes down to money. No one wants to hire designers any more that think. That costs money.

  • um...ok

  • we did it :)

  • You needed to hire a designer in the first place to stop this video from looking like the piece of crap that it is... And try a script writer while ur at it... And maybe a speech therapist.

  • bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahah I agree

  • @astromesmo lol so true, that was my first impression

  • i want to die after watching this

  • PLUMBERS DESIGN SINKS

  • BAHAHADHADADAHAHAHAHA these comments are hilarious ahahhaahahahahah

  • god damn it... learn how to speak

  • ... well I'm glad I watched this video. I mean all she tells is the truth.

    PLUMBER LOL

  • wow great makin my jobs harder to get than it already is...

  • 50 sec. commercial-propaganda for AB crap

  • You should find a designer that is a creative problem solver. Since you are obviously not being that you are talking about hiring one, why the need to collaborate??? JFC

  • HEH?!

  • that was SO usefull and I am TOTALLY not sarcastic.

  • Well that's :50 seconds I'll never get back.

  • plus the time to type this comment

  • Practice what you preach; you obviously weren't too careful with who you hired because your logo looks like an ugly unicorn

  • what help does this video provide? smh

  • looks to me like she hired a plumber to art-direct the set.

  • The success of these tips is demonstrated in the sleek classiness of the logo they use themselves. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure Paul Rand designed it...

  • Leaving the colorful setting and hairdo aside.

I wouldn't believe what she said because her statements sound like questions, like she doesn't even believe what she says herself.

Maybe it's the accent or the area where she's from but she doesn't sound confident enough for this kind of "sound advice video clip".

  • @trevorwoods lol all americans sound like they are asking questions all the time ahahhahahahahahhahahah

  • @bouncingsoul100 hmm, i know what you mean. like they make a statement in the tone of a question kinda treating you like the red headed step child so to speack.

  • No its just sounds like they arent sure of what they are saying - like you have to agree with them eg . the ice cream van is putside ..is a statement but many americans make it sound like a question --- know what i mean ?

  • Obviously she has great taste in hiring design professionals, seeing as her background is made of giant neon-colored beach balls paired with a bouquet of orange-tipped yellow roses, accentuated by her purple and green blouse.... what the hell, lady!

  • Where does Maria get these golden nuggets of valuable information from? I'm in total disbelief, I thought the best graphic designers to hire would be people with no social skills, creativity, or problem-solving abilities.

  • she is the understatement of life

  • Give her a break guys...maybe she had trouble giving us advice on finding a designer cuz they were filming in the room of a 4 yr old girl lol

  • Hmmm, business advice from a woman with a giant beach ball.

  • Be careful when hiring a video designer and interviewee. It's about having someone you can trust, people who won't give you a bland template intro, stock backgrounds in set design and a talking head that won't seem like she can't actually talk.

  • i give up.....

"...is this somebody I can work with, and collaborate with..."

You know what, I just LOVE employing people who I don't get along with!

    Jesus wept....

  • Being a Graphic Designer, my advice is "be careful when watching silly, time-wasting video clips". Talk about stating the bleeding obvious! Classic US chat-show style drivel.

  • Comment removed

  • Err maybe businesses should be more careful about putting videos on youtube in an effort to appear more professional but due to the wooden presenter, fluffed line and set designed by an eight year old achieve the exact opposite!

  • She made an important point though; designers are CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVERS.

That's a job which shouldn't be taken lightly.

  • dudette just tell him/her wat you are looking for, let him/her go work her/his magic have them show u a rough and then tell him or her wat changes u want if any. Not that hard if you guys communicate to begin with.

  • so gomissmo even if ur making these huge award winning brands it doesnt serve any purpose but money sprinkler systems water based floor heating drainage water washing without us ud not have any time to be a graphics designer fool dont talk so lowly of things You dont have any skills of when you yourself diss your clients

  • Oh dear some good advice would be...

Do you tell your plumber how he should do his job? Do you tell the mechanic that you would like square wheels on your car?

How about trusting the designer and giving him/her a decent brief for a change!!!!

  • As a designer... I find this hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing. Well, I'm glad she found a designer she could work with. 'Cause that's what's important.... not the actual skill of the designer and respecting that.

  • Yes...and graphic designers LOVE to be compared to plumbers. Creating award-winning brands (which this woman has obviously never worked with, based on her set)...is very much like unclogging a toilet.

THIS IS A DESIGN company who did this video? Now, THAT is a problem!

  • yes... and plumbers LOVE to be compared to graphic designers as much pretty graphics you could make if it wherent for us pepole whouldnt have a drainage system and your extra cargo whouldnt magicaly go away itd just be laying on your floor in your graphic designer apartment :)

  • @farstadman his point is that being plumber isn't as professional as graphic design is. it takes more schooling and education and it pays more. That's his point. The same way that architects get payed more than a graphic designer in most cases.

  • I hate you. I hope you fall face first on a golf shoe.

  • I laugh every time I read your comment. I like your... vision... or imagination.

  • You can tell she knows what she's talking about, just look how well art directed the set is,a nice beach-ball and flowers motif really helps sell "sound business advice."

    LOL twat.

  • @rumsfeld123 don't forget the bamboo background

  • what a crock. why would anyone listen to this when you fluff line 3 to camera (in a 35 second piece), yet don't shoot another take? You have understood nothing about what design is.

    with respect.

  • Being a graphic designer myself I take great pride in my work and my clientele. Yes, relationship is key. Designers are problems solvers and idea communicators. In fact it is graphic designers who need to "be careful" of small businesses and their mentality of getting a job done for little or no money! A designer always wants the best result there's no "ego" (royalsteven) but pride + reputation for both parties at stake and any client who can not see that won't get the result they paid for.

  • Aaaaah, here we go trying to educate clients... what a waste of time.

  • Everything around you is designed. You make most of your choices balanced between value and image. BUT designers are not artists - their job is to communicate the client's viewpoint and often - yes - designers get precious when they are challenged or have to change something.

  • It's true, in general photographers are more friendly and have less ego then graphic designer :)

  • I'm a graphic designer, and even I can't stand being around graphic designers. ^_^

  • I know what you mean :) But maybe I shouldn't generalize, it just bout my own experience :D

  • I would go as far as claiming that society can't breathe without design. Think of it EVERYTHING is design. Iventions, Architecture, websites, books, photography, letters, we package things. We drink from a cup, we live in a house, we eat from a plate, we package things to keep it good, we wear clothes, we drive in cars...get my point? We can't live in a world without nothing in it!

  • LoL 50 seconds of nonsence.

At least the last few words made sence.

Designers are problem solvers. I'm sure when people want a decorator they hire a decorator, or an artist...

  • Wow, such insight. Thanks for that pearl of dog shit.

  • What a waste of bandwidth. Who has a creative collaboration with their plumber for god's sake?! Not the first to say it, but anyone who goes public with that logo has no business commenting on anything to do with design. Idiots.

  • did she said ' PLUMBERS??

this lady HAS NOT IDEA what is a graphic design... ....

  • and then you'll say

    you look like carlos mencia

    and i'll say

yea? so what? you want your toilet designed?

    hu? hu? HU?!!!

    oh SORRY wrong office.

  • you have a shitty logo, and a tasteless beach ball umbrella background, and you can't speak... people should be careful when listening to you

  • Shouldn't you be careful when hiring anyone?

Or when it comes to babysitting you're not too fussy?

When getting your teeth fixed you just ask a guy in the street?

When selling your house the vicar will do it?

    What a very silly comment.

  • beach balls ? ? ..people think fun! think accessability! think goodness! thank god i don't work for these people. i wish this were satire. i wonder where they're based.

  • uhh.. or you can just hire someone good

  • We are not anything like plumbers lady!

And oh yeah... your logo SUCKS. Looks like you choose the wrong designer!!

  • snap!

  • shit man. the logo.

  • did this lady design that dirty butthole logo at the beginning of the video?

  • graphic design is all about visual comunication...

  • im a creative problem solver..ppl think im a graphic desinger but in actually self tought

  • obviously she hasn't chosen a good graphic designer. anyone can whip up to letters and put an oval shape over them. takes 2 seconds, pay me 1000 for that much work thanks [=

  • wait... this broads giving advice on choosing the right graphic designer!??

    LOOK AT THEIR LOGO!!

  • Beveling FTW! lol

  • I believe that a true graphic designer is always an artist. Not a mediocre person who finds solutions for a client. Remember that artists are special human beings. NOT MACHINES>

  • i am a graphic designer and would never consider myself an artist. a good designer is a problem solver.

  • design is not art, two totally different aspects of communication :P

  • I agree that a good designer is just that, but a GREAT designer is some one who is both designer and artist and can make effective use of both talents without letting the "Artist" side override the "Designer" side too much but still creates things that not only meet, but exceed the client's expectations.

Graphic Designers are a dime a dozen, but Graphic Artists are the next link
