  • love this song when my aunt sing this

  • love this

  • Barf barf puke vomit

  • @12CeeSee YOUVE GOT A BULLET IN YO FUCKIN HEAD

  • Great song

  • nice one..cutting the end of the song off :/

  • She looks like a ghost.

  • gendronp you know when this came out in the 80's I took this song to heart and gave me exactly what I wanted to be. I was going to go into the military and then I heard this song and I realized all I wanted is to be a wife and mother. I have not ever had any regrets about it..I love my kids and now they are starting their own lives now. I think sometimes when we are young we need something like this to bring reality to us...

  • typical woman, never happy. snap out of it bitch.

  • @gendronp typical man, could leave, doesn't and bitches about it.

  • That soliloquy at 2:10 or so is total nonsense, and turns this into a "bubble gum" song....listen to Nancy Wilson sing this song...link is on this page.....

  • I'm a big fan of subtle whoring.

  • wow- i did hear this years ago....it is a bit cheesy but the message is clearly to choose wisely or there will be regrets.

  • I'd rather be the one running around than the mom stuck in a rut.

  • @dstluke I highly recommend it, for a while at least.

  • Wow. The 70s sure had some smarmy music.

  • this video looks and sounds like a prolonged douche commercial

  • Subtle whoring!!!

    「高級妓女般」的生涯,

    傳世的經典用詞,其精妙難以言喻!!!

  • what a beautiful song

  • This is lyrically hysterical.

  • Is this song for real?

  • This may be the worst song ever recorded.

  • @shrubbmeister1 You should hear Friday and My Jeans. Been living in a cave or something?

  • @shrubbmeister1 I actually think "Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill might be the very worst that's ambitious, but this one is certainly up there. All mawkish, sickening songs like these remind me of the part in "Animal House" where John Belushi smashes the guitar of some guy singing one of his own, trying to impress some bimbos sitting next to him with his lyrical "genius."

  • @shrubbmeister1 it's close, georgia satellites keep your hands to yourself has that honor

  • Scott Shannon found this song track in a lost pile of recordings from a music studio he inherited in 1981. He made up the name Charlene for it, and made a ton of money pushing it on the public in radio. The woman in the video is his sister-in-law Bitsy Goldshitz from Yonkers N.Y. She lipsync'd it for the video, but no one who knew gave a damm in the early years of MTV. This is why no one has seen, nor heard of Charlene since!

  • @CH3CH2OH4U - I think I've heard this story. It's said the recording dates back to the late 1970's, but there was no indication of a date on it. I'm thinking it was a demo that may have been made during the early to mid seventies that was shelved and forgotten until 81 or 82. The style of the music and the lifestyle of the early to mid seventies would suggest that.

  • this is amazing... tears' shaped song...

  • great song

  • Charlene recorded this in 1977... it only became a hit in 1982 because DJ Scott Shannon pulled it out of mothballs and started playing it. Mary MacGregor of "Torn Between Two Lovers" infamy did a cover of this.

  • I met this lady and her parents years ago. The sweet voice she has reflects her personally.

  • I remember my mum loving this record when it came out. I also remember hearing it loads on hospital radio as it was then loads and thinking of wanting to be home with my mum and dad. I was 9 years old then and everytime I hear this I think of my mum. Love you mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • This song has been years...yet it still sounds good today....true ageless classic

  • fake!

  • Hampton court is beautiful!

  • This song is meaningful. She's basically advising this lady to look for goodness in her own life and telling her that ordinary things have immense benefits. She's saying that sometimes seeing it all (like fancy trips all over) and being with powerful men doesn't mean you've really found yourself. It can be good but it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be happy.

  • I've been to me and Having Kids is the BEST experience you can ever know

  • @gulfshoresscraps gary glitter feels the same way.

  • @hazy33 who is gary glitter is it someone who made the same comment i did further down on the page - i like to listen to this song; everything didn't turn out for me but maybe it will for my kids

  • @justscrapping I hope things turn out well for your kids too. They would be well advised to determine who they are first before making life changing decisions like having children to further that cause. Too many people expect someone else to complete them and that is not how it works. Be happy with yourself before pairing up or reproducing, and go from there.

  • @gulfshoresscraps I am blissfully child free. It's win-win.

  • @gulfshoresscraps...if you think thats true you really need to get a life

  • Thank GOD I didn't have kids!!!

  • @mgclv sing it sister!

  • i've never been to me

  • @yanee27 No time like the present.

  • No one likes a brag.

  • This ranks up there with "Seasons in the Sun" as one of the cheesiest songs ever! It's sooo bad it's good...like a dog so ugly you can't help but love it

  • Amazing!

  • I wish Neil Diamond would do a version of this song from a man's prospective

  • @all of you who think this song is stupid ...dnt worry when you grow old you will know what this song is about....u are young now you dnt know wat it's like to grow old and alone and wish u had 1 child ...wish u had took the time out to make some good memories with 1 person but instead all ur life believing partying is good now u got to wipe ur sgitty ass by urself.....nobody to visit u in the nursing home and baby no matter what u think MONEY CAN'T BUY LOVE of a child a husband or family

  • @destiny3218 Getting married and having children to ensure visitors and servants in your old age doesn't sound like love. I LOVE being alone and I'll take care of my own butt thank you.

  • If you want to know the details behind this song, and what Charlene thinks about it, she now has an official site, CharleneSongs (d-t c-m - can't post URLs here). She has new songs on the site and her books too.

  • shrek 3 brought me here!

  • so nice!!

  • This is a classic song and very good . I wonder if the video was shot in great britian because of the house looks as it's british .

  • Adoro!

  • whoever doesnt like this song likes shit frozen in a condom reachin up 2 their throats

  • whoever doesnt like this song likes shit frozen in a condom reachin up 2 their throats

  • @multigarlan Touching and incoherent.

  • YES IS THE ORIGINAL VIDEO

  • This is the way to compose and write music and whomever is posting negative shit can go suck it choke and die. Go find your type of music if you call it music....Britney, Eminem, what other shit sounds there is.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the most sickening song with the most vomitous lyrics ever written....how did it become a hit? there must be a lot of stupid people listening....and as far as charlene goes, thank god her career fizzled out like a wet fart...

  • @bobbya16 Then why did you come on here to listen to it?

  • @GeorgiaKev ....oh I didnt come to listen to it...I just wanted to see the comments by the morons that think this is a good song.....the lyrics are fucking putrid....lol where is charlene now? prob working in wallmart or blowing guys in the parking lot...

  • @bobbya16 I don't care where she is now. I still feel that this song was great, even if it was her only hit. It's more than I, and probably you also) have ever done. FYI--Charlene gave up her music career in the late '80s after she had children (good priorities). My point is this: liking or disliking a song doesn't measure a person's intelligence. Different people have different tastes.

  • @GeorgiaKev .."good prorities" my ass! If she had a music career, which she did not, she never would have given it up just to shit out a couple of children....

  • @bobbya16 Well, like I said.....everyone has a right to their opinion.

  • @bobbya16 @bobbya16 Your a fucken prick!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people know raising a family is more fulfilling then touring, doing shows every night just to make a buck. She is not the only women who gave up all kinds of careers, entertainment, doctor, military etc, cause to them raising a family is much more important!!!!

  • @NAVMAR16 ...give me a break!...you must be from the midwest or even worse the southwest!

  • @bobbya16 whats wrong with being from either of those places?

  • @VASINGER ...well let's see...take the southwest for example....who the hell would willingly live in a state like Arizona for instance? 120 degree summers, not one bit of shade, people slower than shit, no grass can grow anywhere because of its disgusting climate....the only people that live there are people that are old and retired, people running from some one or some thing(because no one wants to look for you there) or people that are too stupid to know any better...

  • @bobbya16 um, i guess thats true. But what does that have to do with the song?

  • @bobbya16 Whoa whoa whoa. The SW didn't do anything- come on now. I live in Arizona of my own volition and I was in support of you so far. I'll endure weather and the aged to avoid a mass onslaught of fools that flock to states with cooler weather. Come to think of it- yes, Arizona sucks and everybody should stay far far away.

  • @NAVMAR16 Jesus didn't raise a family.

  • @bobbya16 Well, idk about the parking lot part but this is really bad music- if you can call it that. Lousy lyrics, thin voice and no production value.

  • My favorite song :)

  • Yes, the song is admitting that abortion sure can be regrettable.....you sure don't see songs like this on the charts in 2011. And I quote "sometimes I get to crying for unborn children".

  • @MrChicago891 Oh please- Marvin Gayes Sexual Healing came out the same year so did She Works Hard for the Money. Can we put an end to the generational glorification already. Good and Bad is everywhere all the time, has been, will be and is.

  • The last time I heard this song I was a pre-teen. I now understand the meaning of this song. You have to be in a certain place in your life to truly understand.

  • "Sometimes I been to cryin' for unborn children that might have made me complete."

Is she talking about abortions that she had????

  • @BrentAudi She's talking about how she ran around, had plenty of adventure and excitement and enjoyed feminism, rejecting the idea of marriage and motherhood... Now she realizes that to be someone's wife and to be a mother is exactly what she wanted and what would have brought fulfillment. Now she's alone and childless, and she cries for those children she never had, because they would have made her life complete.

  • Comment removed

  • @christy0misty WHAT!!!?

    (you need therapy)

  • @BrentAudi Possibly. But she also may just be thinking about the children she may have had if she had settled down, gotten married, and accepted the responsibility of being a wife and mother. Basically, her selfishness and not wanting any responsibility is what lead to her being all alone in her old age.

  • Thank you for bringing me back!!

  • Love this song! Its about appreciating where you are at and realizing the grass is greener in your yard

  • @simonjesusmilagros Well said.

  • yaaay someone wif the official music video

  • damme this song is old man ...brings back memories of my childhood :)

  • This song is awfully bad, but in a cool, cheesy bad, especially the spoken words in the middle of it.

  • i love this song the author or the singer.have really .

  • Subtle whoring!!! Yes!!! Classic line....

  • @AggiePrideATL SHE'S SAYING DONT FUCK FOR THE NUT ... FUCK FOR LOVE AND WAKE UP AND HAVE COFFE

  • @sierria64 , that was the funniest thing I have read in a while. You made my day.

  • isle of greece LOL..... and i've never been to me?.... btw this video like watch horor trailer movie in 70 or 80's like OMEN series hahahaha

  • so oldies..... gaga must be wacth this...

  • Ahahaha @nakedBison69 haunting this video and cursing anyone who speaks ill of this treacle laden mess of a song. I actually love the song, I just love it because it's so hilariously bad, it always gets played at least once when mates come round.

Don't worry nakedBison69, one day a woman will be really impressed by how much you love this song and she might even let you do her homework or carry her stuff!

  • Wow, guess I hit a nerve there with NakedBison69! Lol, yea you defend your Charlene! Ha! I still stand by what I wrote! The song speaks for itself! Garbage, pure and simple. Have a nice day Bison! Lol

  • 素晴らしい歌です。ただ、あまり歴史に残っていませんね。

  • This song is f**king horrible!!!! This has to be the worst song ever! I mean WTF?!

  • Joemar4 is fucking horrible, the worst person ever, what the fuck

  • @Joemar4 .........Obviously you have never listened to Matchbox 20

  • Remember this one? " hey..you know what paradise is?...it's a lie" lol

  • @stonker1020 "But you know what truth is? It's that man you fought with this morning, the same one you're going to make love with tonight! That's true--that's LOVE."

Too bad I married a woman who never understood the wisdom of those words.

  • Wonder how many people are out there who have found themselves in such a situation?

  • Wow, she looks like a drag queen.

  • angryangora the drag queen

  • yes, it's the official music video. The monologue rocks!

  • God damn this is so amusingly awful. The spoken word is simply amazing!

  • ligeynuts is so pathetically awful

  • God i love this Song, Such a nice song I wanna Cry at it. sad I Know. ;-(

  • love this sond!!

  • @Wfjco18 Blessings to you and all you love. Cherish the lesson learned and spread the Light, as the singer is hoping to do with her missive to the young mother.

Sensuality is among the most false of gods.

  • This is such fun schlock. Funny/sad that people take this tripe as ...'wonderful. Meaningful.' For goodness sake - the makers of PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESSERT saw it for what it IS - camp. (please; don't waste time telling me contrary. It's a free world (sigh), and everyone's entitled to an opinion.

  • is the official music video.?

  • @steamyboy69

have no idea about this, I love this song and just cited it from another youtube uploader.

  • @ginlkk ... I beleive so. This is the clip I recall from the early 80's (In my early teens)

  • This beautiful song sings of a law of human nature--believe me I've been there. Sadly, as mm-555 whines, some people gag on the truth. Pray someday the unenlightened will keep their infantile selfishness to themselves as the rest of us enjoy the beauty.

  • @siderealsprite I agree I watched someone I loved destroy herself and us trying to live this dream

  • @Wfjco18 Blessings to you and all you love. Cherish the lesson learned and spread the Light, as the singer is hoping to do with her missive to the young mother.

Sensuality is among the most false of gods.

  • Totally amazing

  • Charlene filmed this video in the very same dress that she got married in and she is fantastic just like this song.THE BEST SONG EVER.

  • This song isn't so bad...just a little cheesy for our modern-day sensibilities....

  • Nice!
