Wesley Snipes really is he a martial artist or just a well-trained movie star and what about that dude from the movie the Last Dragon?. Hes from down south but I consider him black.
@JinSage I can assure you Snipes and Taimak are "REAL" martial Artist. Snipes is a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and various Shoalin Kung Fu styles, Afro Capeoria, and Boxing. He did not go into acting to showcase his martial Arts skill, his martial arts skills were noticed on a set with him doing kata excercises. Taimak is a 7th degree black belt with emphasis in Shoalin Kung Fu, Chinese Goju, Boxing ,Judo, and MMA. He's also competed and won a title in NY Kick boxing competitions.
I'm the next best black martial artist, marrese crump is good but he weighs like 120, give it up for the martial artists 200lbs and over Michael jai white, and me and we are 6'2 it takes skill to be that tall and weigh that much to move like we do we are defying the law of gravity. Nothing against smaller martial artists. But add 100lbs more to your body and try kicking and flipping the same way!!!!
Their should have been atleast nine guys in front of M.C. What about Hakim Alston and Jeff Ward. These two martial artist with Chuck Jeffreys did the stunt work/ fight scenes for Snips, Blanks, and a whole bunch of other people.
I like the video but, I would have added Billy Blanks after Jim Kelly and just before Wesley......and maybe even Bruce Leroy!!!!!!lol Oh yeah and I can't forget Chuck Jeffreys. For those that don't know about him check him out on You Tube!!!!!!
@MrAndrewIbsen Wesley Snipes is a legit multidsiciplinary 5th dan, awarded this rank by a panel of distinguished internationally renowned martial arts masters about 13 years ago or so.He's trained in shotokan, capoeira, boxing, kenpo karate, and other disciplines as well.
can't they just be some of the greatest PERFORMERS...period? I've competed for years and would hate to hear after winning gold that I'm the best BLACK competitor there
@khujo78 I've competed for years too...and the truth is? If merit, achievement, conduct, and other objective data were the norm? We wouldn't have a country and a planet with human history showing very clearly the divisions we made amongst ourselves in gender, race, age, nationality, language, religion, sexual preference, etc. for which we have bitterly persecuted each other.Once the OPPOSITE behaviour becomes ingrained in our societies? Then we can revert to similarly "label-blind" descriptors. Not before.
@khujo78 In order to "start NOW...period" we have to first overcome the roadblocks to "starting now".The fact that we're having this conversation because of the current reality which is still hostile to Black people and many others. However, the fact that we're having this conversation now is also proof that there are many people who don't condone prejudice racism etc and therefore we have reason to hope that we can bring about a society devoid of the crap of yesteryear.
@ATACXGYMSTRONGFLUID the verbosity of your statement still doesn't clear anyone of being able to (or being responsible for) recognizing a true artist regardless of color. These 'roadblocks' are mental. We of course need to recognize the pervasive prejudice in this world, but it doesn't have to start with some arbitrary point. If you're waiting for that then good luck. I call it wherever I see it, and I won't be picky about when/where people begin to open their minds
@khujo78 Allow me to try a different tact.I agree that we could and should start NOW to make a better world. In EVERY area, not "just" race relations.Never did I opine or suggest that any or everyone is or should be cleared from,as you say,"recognizing a true artist regardless of color".But we must overcome centuries of racial animosity programmed into every institution of every society worldwide. These are the roadblocks I said we need to overcome in order to START now and WIN THE WAR.
@ATACXGYMSTRONGFLUID I'm sorry, I do appreciate what you are saying, believe me, I am working it. But overcoming centuries of conditioning doesn't start until someone says or DOES something about it. We can't wait for a plan to do that. We can talk forever about what needs to be done, but that talk does nothing. None of it matters until we start calling people out and challenging stereotypes when we see them. THEN we put into ACTION the world we wish to live in.
@khujo78 By living the lives that we live and having conversations like this one,I'd opine that we're doing and saying effective things to combat bigotry right now.But changing the minds of the masses is much different than permanently fundamentally altering the way that every institution in this society works. The latter requires wholly changing or destroying and then replacing powerful institutions that can and will resist and which have vested interests in maintaining the status quo.
@BobbyNutzzz He is the future almost certainly and he's a true force to be reckoned with in the present. However, the present belongs to Anderson Silva and GSP.
There ARE catagories in race. They're called culture differences, and it's ok to catagorize. Forget trying to assume equality.... we're simply different, which isn't a bad thing.
@nabyeongshin I agree for the most part, although I would opine that one could be both "different" and "equal" at the same time.Pernell Whitaker, for instance,is different than Floyd Mayweather (Pernell is a leftie,he's older,he performed in a more talent rich era) but his boxing acumen is right about equal with Floyd's skill.
I ALWAYS wanted to see Michael Jai White in a Blade movie just to see Wesley Snipes & Michael Jai White would be as badass as seeing Jet Li & Tony Jaa battle in a movie. How epic would that be?
@PrimeTimeJokesta That would be incredibly epic.I want to see Michael Jai and Wesley fight, and I wanted to see a movie where they work together in a real throwdown bang em up style movie with intellect; a cross of Jason Bourne,The Book Of Eli,and...say...EQUILIBRIUM or BLOOD AND BONE.I'd also like to see them do the martial arts equivalent of BAD BOYS.I also want to see Scott Adkins vs Tony Jaa,Michael Jai vs Donnie Yen,and Wesley Snipes vs Mark Dacascos,Ernie Reyes Jr.,and Jet Li.
@ATACXGYMSTRONGFLUID I agree, I could see that happening too. all of those fights would be amazing!! I personally would love to Donnie Yen vs Michael Jai, but all of them would be epic as hell! MJW vs Wesley is something that I hope happens when they finally do Blade 4. I still hold out hope for that one. Jet Li vs Tony Jaa would be insane, thing is with the fantasy fights, I'd have no clue who I would want to win the fight, LOL! I think Wes would probably win that one but IDK about the others.
@375apt1b Floyd's not too lame a champ,he is this era's p4p best without a doubt...especially after he beats Khan next year and finally gets Pacman in the ring hopefully around this time next year.I can agree with the comment on Floyd's ego,and I definitely agree with the B-Hop idea.
i care not about the color of the artist but i like to see real martial artist who really train and show off the fruit of their training on flim. these are men who really train and made it big by showing off their what they worked hard for. great vid but you left out one "TAIMAK" an awsome fighter.
@DECBZR Untrue. In general, people can think of more accomplishments of Whites or Orientals in various fields of human endeavor than Blacks; but Blacks have contributed mightily in every science art and discipline. We're not saying being proud of your Whiteness=racism,YOU said it.We ARE saying that the contributions of Black people have been deliberately hidden and overlooked and there is much to be proud of in those accomplishments. This videos shows some of our accomplishments in martial arts
@ATACXGYMSTRONGFLUID I didn't state that to start a race row, I agree with what you say but if there was on video titled "greatest white martial artists" it would be labeled racist. I'm well aware of the contributions of the black people but I don't see why they should be split into race groups to define them.
These are not the greatest black martial performers. These are the greatest black actors of martial arts. Real martial arts is not what is being shown here. These are choreographed movements.
People who disrespect black people are morons. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be living in a world we live in today. 'They' started as much as white people did. Fuck racism.
i think the reason to make this is because black people arn't well know in martial arts but then nether are latinos , the point is why emphasize that they are black martial artistis if they are for the most part doing karate a japanese style.
i like this video because shows different actors from different eras & the younger generation needs to know who they are, they are positive role models. ive seen black belt jones and its a good movie.
Billy Blanks? Hakim Alston? Lateef Crowder (or maybe you're just showcasing African Americans perhaps)? Taimak might be a stretch sine he only did one movie worth talking about, but it was a classic. Legit video, just a little incomplete.
pblack people treat other black people worst than white people i think it is ashame it was not till nas x-clan james brown telling black people to be proud and love themselves that they started to accept who they are videos like this is very important to no fault of the white man today that black people have no self esteem the past is the past i wish they would move forward and not look at the media to tell them of how they should look or feel about themselve does any agree with this
the reason i think black people seperate themselve like that is because of the ugly past that they had. let face it america was not nice to them they were and they are label as bad people by most white people . in the 80s black were ashame of themselves they had perm and try to change the color of there skin put it this way among the black comunity you had to be a certain shade of light to be accepted into the black comunity needless to say i think that was disgusting

I would also say you forgot Lateef Crowder, but the problem with that is that he's Brazillian which means just because he has a darker complection doesn't reallu make him black........it's basically like calling someone who's Deminican or Cubian black when actually they're hispanic.
Lateef Crowder is Afro-Brazilian which makes him black. He's just a lighter complexion. P.S. Brazilians are Latino and Latino is an ethnicity, not a race. You can b any race and b Latino. For example, Michael Jai White's ethnicity is African-American. His race is black. Ethnicity is a group of people based on culture. Race is a group of people based on physical traits.
@DaJyant Yes, Hakim is probably the most underrated of them all because he never really got a big role in movies, not even a supporting role. But his work on WMAC Masters was very underrated. Good thing they still have all the episodes online.
@TheImmortalFlip well he was influenced by several black karate fighters and boxers. Not only black fighters but several other fighters from other parts of the world too.
wut does it matter if they're black??? martial artists are martial artists. this is yet another video separating man and creating categories amongst the human race
@domcha131 The reason is because Blacks and other minorities are really under represented in the mainstream film industry. When you're a minority in any field, it gives you pride, hope, and encouragement to see other people from your ethnic group succeed. Same way an aspiring White basketball player might look to Larry Bird, for inspiration. It doesn't mean you're against anybody else, it's just to say, "Hey my people can do this do", that's all..
while I agree that people shouldn't be separating people by race, I do think it is a good thing to show case people of your culture that you are proud of, especially when the individuals do not get any recognition by mainstream society, so it can go either way.
@domcha131 It is just pride you know like Japanese,Chinese all that stuff and besides in understand him there aren't many distinguished fighters that are black maybe that's why he made the video. I
@domcha131 i never even heard of most of these guys...maybe because they are underrepresented. So I learned some names from this vid and will continue research.
Why in the hell you consider this separating vid? This is just a educational vid to show us black people the great martial artist of african decesent. Give me a goddamn break. You people like to start problems.
@domcha131 americans have started thinking like this.u must be able to say the white or black person without people reacting as if its racism,we have different colours u cannot ignore that.but its just a colour..
@domcha131 If the contributions of Black people in a positive sense weren't by and large ignored and glossed over--unless they're in the realm of sports or entertainment--then I'd completely agree with you. But unfortunately the reality is solidly the opposite of what we may prefer...and racism has prevented Black artists from being rewarded for their excellence as they should be rewarded.
@domcha131 I respectfully disagree with you.you should be no less offended if someone posted "greatest russian artists" or "Greatest latin martial artists",it's celebrating a culture. Now if the video only said "greatest martial artist performers of all time" and ONLY showed these gentlemen,THEN that would be a HUGE issue.
Great tribute to african american fighters bro :) Made me feel real proud to be an african american and a martial artist :) I want to be one of the future black martial art actors :)
@JaxxDaemon Im gonna make it. I'll get where these guys are and i'll ascend in the action cinema. It doesnt matter where we come from as long we have a dream well make it to that dream and i shall do that. I'll prove you wrong youll see it.
Was Mr. Scott the brother who trained and lived in Hong Kong in the late 1960s and early 70s and made some movies (I don't remember if it was golden harvest production or not) in Hong Kong? And if it is who I think it is he was very good. Osu
You are 100% correct. It was him. I had not seen Mr. Scott movies in many years. I was just 8 years old when some of his movies came out. I googled him and not that much info about him is out there. Thank you for your time. Osu
Nice vid, I like all the martial artist you chose. I think Ronald Duncan deserves an honorable mention, even though he wasn't in movies. He didn't get as much recognition, as Stephen Hayes for being one of the 1st Americans trained in Ninjutsu. You can only guess why?

DaJyant 9 months ago
@DaJyant Yes, Hakim is probably the most underrated of them all because he never really got a big role in movies, not even a supporting role. But his work on WMAC Masters was very underrated. Good thing they still have all the episodes online.

Bruce Lee is black
TheImmortalFlip 9 months ago 3
@TheImmortalFlip well he was influenced by several black karate fighters and boxers. Not only black fighters but several other fighters from other parts of the world too.

You forgot Chuck Jeffreys, Marjean Holden and Lateef Crowder! But great video though!
sajmeister 9 months ago
wut does it matter if they're black??? martial artists are martial artists. this is yet another video separating man and creating categories amongst the human race
domcha131 9 months ago 32
@domcha131 The reason is because Blacks and other minorities are really under represented in the mainstream film industry. When you're a minority in any field, it gives you pride, hope, and encouragement to see other people from your ethnic group succeed. Same way an aspiring White basketball player might look to Larry Bird, for inspiration. It doesn't mean you're against anybody else, it's just to say, "Hey my people can do this do", that's all..
Alkebulan32 9 months ago 3
while I agree that people shouldn't be separating people by race, I do think it is a good thing to show case people of your culture that you are proud of, especially when the individuals do not get any recognition by mainstream society, so it can go either way.
darkservantofheaven 8 months ago 32
@domcha131 It is just pride you know like Japanese,Chinese all that stuff and besides in understand him there aren't many distinguished fighters that are black maybe that's why he made the video. I

@domcha131 indeed, but there are only a handful of well known black martial artists
DirtySchnook 6 months ago
@domcha131 i never even heard of most of these guys...maybe because they are underrepresented. So I learned some names from this vid and will continue research.
MisterTownsend 6 months ago
@domcha131
Why in the hell you consider this separating vid? This is just a educational vid to show us black people the great martial artist of african decesent. Give me a goddamn break. You people like to start problems.
GTpanik 6 months ago
@domcha131 The film industry does the separating; where are the paying roles in Hollywood?!

@domcha131 americans have started thinking like this.u must be able to say the white or black person without people reacting as if its racism,we have different colours u cannot ignore that.but its just a colour..
cyrilacabcyril 5 months ago
@domcha131 If the contributions of Black people in a positive sense weren't by and large ignored and glossed over--unless they're in the realm of sports or entertainment--then I'd completely agree with you. But unfortunately the reality is solidly the opposite of what we may prefer...and racism has prevented Black artists from being rewarded for their excellence as they should be rewarded.
ATACXGYM 5 months ago
@domcha131 I respectfully disagree with you.you should be no less offended if someone posted "greatest russian artists" or "Greatest latin martial artists",it's celebrating a culture. Now if the video only said "greatest martial artist performers of all time" and ONLY showed these gentlemen,THEN that would be a HUGE issue.

@TheGreatRedDragon
Sir
Was Mr. Scott the brother who trained and lived in Hong Kong in the late 1960s and early 70s and made some movies (I don't remember if it was golden harvest production or not) in Hong Kong? And if it is who I think it is he was very good. Osu

Yes Sir
You are 100% correct. It was him. I had not seen Mr. Scott movies in many years. I was just 8 years old when some of his movies came out. I googled him and not that much info about him is out there. Thank you for your time. Osu

Nice vid, I like all the martial artist you chose. I think Ronald Duncan deserves an honorable mention, even though he wasn't in movies. He didn't get as much recognition, as Stephen Hayes for being one of the 1st Americans trained in Ninjutsu. You can only guess why?
