I miss this let's play so much. I wish Gix had a little more time to put into it before skyrim. maybe make it an even 100 episodes? this series used to totally make my day
Oblivion has some of the best visuals in gaming, I don't care what they say. Graphically, it is a bit dated, Crysis, Battlefield, and alike being much better in that department. But this game can get away with the texture flaws because of how massive it is! I don't really understand how people can complain about the visuals when there are so many awesome views and weather types. Yes, the environments are "earth-like", but if you want alien landscapes, play Shivering Isles or Morrowind.
I think Oblivion has one of the best environments i have ever seen in a game. I know many people does not agree with me, but after all these years i still sometimes stop to look all the gorgeus environments. I love Oblivion, its my home and my real life is my prison.
I wish the beds had what the chairs do. Like a small animation of you getting on/in the thing. It could show you climbing on the bed like it does with the NPC, then time could pass, then it cuold show yuo getting up. Otherwise I just feel like he stood next to the bed all night? :/
@Shadowabliss it would be annoying like shit to have to see a animation that you cant skip everytime you use the bed with the chairs its ok since there is no point to use them now with the beds no way
if that guild leader lady had only know a few spells like detect life and dispel and the whole find the cat dude would be meaningless and she would be able to do it herself
Aww, why is this the last video? D= I love your LP's, you take up the personality of your character, and its really cool! Make more oblivion please!!! =)
Oblivion has forests, snowy areas and marshes. Shivering isles also adds some diversity; the big mushrooms like in Morrowind for example. So I don't think that the areas in Oblivion are bland overall, particularly the forests, though maybe they get slightly repetitive in the long run. If you're going to spend hundreds of hours playing Oblivion, you'll probably be begging for something new.
you should really do that quest whit the Ayleid Statue thing you found its a really good quest, and awesome rewards. i think there's another statue in the ruin of Culotte just south east of the big ass bridge south of the imperial city. so please do it :) its in my opinion the most epic non main quest of the game
Oblivions environments are too much copy/paste and bland. That is the complain from the elder scrolls fans. Seen one part if the game, seen it all. Morrowind had alot more diverse environment than that had. Ok game though, a little bit too much on the easy side though. I mean, the game hold your hand all through out it.
@gixG17 My grandpa once lost his shoes and spent an hour looking for them when they were on his feet. However, he's so tall and so old that he doesn't have any sensation in his feet, so I can't blame him...
Dude u really need to gather your own ingredients when u travel there are plenty of flax seeds and steel-blue entalmus to pick also caps u don't have to buy them all the time The Atronach is best sign for a mage but u gotta keep the restore magicka potions ready keep making videos and keep playin great game
im really getting annoyed by all of the Morrowind lackeys bickering on these oblivion videos. gix does make morrowind videos so why dont you guys go there instead? just a suggestion.
@Bobaganewsh Becaus today we have this rule that state that you can only like one game, only one. So the gaming world is full of fanboys/fangirls that drive a kind of "holy war" against those who like another game.
Oblivion would have been even more stunning if they kept the dynamic shadows in. If you don't know what I mean, try going to the official website and looking at the gameplay videos made before the game was released. A real pity and I expect it was a console performance related compromise.
Just started playing Nehrim. You should definitely check it out if you haven't done it already. It's a total conversion of Oblivion, with lot's of extra content like waterfalls, mills, donkeys, special skills like forging weapons and awesome spells like firewall etc... Best of all: the entire world is hand-crafted, tree by tree and the result is really amazing... It's also HUGE!
The only minor point is that all the voice acting is in German, but you have English subtitles. :)
sorry for bombarding you with comments. but i also like how you dont often fast travel. you actually take the time to walk to the places it tells you to go.
I love the fact that you pay attention to the small things in the game and really observe all of the elements in everything such as environment. Im not being sarcastic. i thought i was the only one that did that in a game. you really try to put it together as if as soon as you turn these games on, your no longer holding a controller or mouse looking at a screen, your holding a sword and shield and looking through your own eyes
awesome lets play gix ive really been enjoying them, but was wondering what your views are on fallout3 /new vegas and would you consider LPing either of them
really enjoying the lets play gix but i was wondering what your views are on fallout 3/new vegas and if you would ever consider lets playing one of them, but anyway great work looking forward to watching more
if you guys didnt notice, in morrowinds bloodmoon expansion when you go to Solstheim, the snowing effect was alot better because you can tell you were going through the snow, plus their were nice blizzards that made you blind from a distance, and the ice caves were beautiful. in oblivion, when you go to the nice Jerall Mountains, the falling snow is following you, try noticing by looking up and move side to side back and forth and you will see
I absolutely love Bruma, the architecture and that sound of the freezing wind is simply amazing. Anytime I'm there I can't help but picture it being freezing cold, not being able to stay out long, or having to stand near the fires.
The "problem" with the forest environments is that it looks and feels as if you're walking in a park because the trees are so far apart.
In real forest the vegetation is more dense and it's darker. Even if it's really sunny you get this pale green/blue ambient light with yellow/white rays piercing through canopy here and there but it's never really bright.
Oblivion is still one of most beautiful games out there and I'm sure it's 'flaws' are more due to technical limitations than design.
@noxure Agreed 100%. Another thing is how light it is by night. In a real forest, at night you can barely avoid bumping into trees, whilst in Oblivion it's basically daytime but with a different colour of sky.
My problem with Oblivion's environments isn't that it's bland or anything like that. My real problem with it is that the Cyrodiil in Oblivion is nothing like the Cyrodiil I read about in Daggerfall and Morrowind with it's jungle like environments etc. Bethesda butchered a lot of their lore when making Oblivion and they don't really provide as much background lore as the previous installments. That is my main problem with the whole game.
I'd say for a night-time we see way too much, and that's what I don't quite like about night-time visuals. First and foremost, no animals, much less humans, can distinguish colors in the dark, and it just seems too bright overall (although the moons do seem to shine).
I remember how i found J'skar. I was randomly going around in the mages guild hall and i bumped into something. I was wondering what it was,i had no life detection stuff back then,so i went around and searched...And i bumped into it again and i pushed space. It was J'skar, asking what i want.it was embarassing :D
Having lived in Finland my whole life, I actually didn't think any forest could look like what Oblivion has, so familiarity certainly is not the problem.
Ask anyone to draw an unspecified tree and they come up with what you see in Oblivion. That and the overall shininess of the game make it look quite unappealing to me. It's also seems a bit lacking in detail, at least now that I've familiarised myself with Nehrim.
Also, there is no way any of those are pines at 3:30.
I love Oblivion, and when people complain that Oblivions environment is the same, they are of course wrong, as the video presents, Oblivions environment transition is just smoother, and it is there more subtle. What people actually mean is that it is less original, so I agree with gix's reasoning.
However if you want a real valid complaint that has nothing to do with preference, how about turning to 04:50. That is the sound of crickets...in a winter environment...insects in 0 Celcius degrees...
i would probably find oblivions environments interesting if i lived in a desert, what pissed me off about it though was that it was NOTHING like what the TES lore says it is like i was expecting some shit similar to endor and that creepy ass forest from lored of the rings, not a fairytale land that does not even come close to being intimidating or dangerous to explore, when i explore in games i want a sense of danger not a sight seeing trip. if i wanted that i would just go outside.
@spacecoke if you want to play a scary intimidating game, you should play Amnesia or sth... Oblivion is just pure pleasure and you can always chose to go in some scary tomb or cave if you want it more intimidating (or go closing the gates of oblivion, that's somewhat intimidating)... it's just the tipe of game that mostly makes you feel good, that's why it's my favourite ;)
One of the problems with Oblivion's environment: It's nothing like it should be according to old background material. Before Oblivion was released Cyrodiil was mainly supposed to be equatorial rainforest. A wild, hot, wet jungle full of rivers and old elven ruins.
So that's what I envisioned. Think of King Louis in Disney's Jungle Book. Or overgrown temple ruins of Honduras or of south east Asia. Many old TES players were severly disappointed by Oblivions lush generic forrests.
Oblivion has beautiful environments, but the ones in Morrowind are far more diverse. You haven't seen most of them. The Ashlands range from mountainous wilderness to relatively flat desert. You haven't seen the rocky islands of Azura's Coast or Sheogorad, or the prairies of the Grazelands. You haven't explored the lava fields of Molag Amur, or the highlands of West Gash. And you have yet to visit a Telvanni town.
And if it's snow you want, get the Bloodmoon expansion. Plenty of snow there.
@Corzicant cryodiil is beautiful but it's too earth like. Cryodiil makes you feel like you are on earth unless you look up at the sky and see two moons. Morrowind really you feel like you are in an alien planet.
I highly doubt elder scroll games will take place out side of Tamriel. But I can't help but wonder if in the elder scroll universe Nirn is the only planet with lifeforms and humanoids or are there other planets with their own races and cultures.
@L337574PL3R He's seen very limited parts of the Ashlands (he's been to Ald'ruhn and Maar Gan, and hasn't ventured outside of either), Molag Amur (he did the Mages Guild quest to Sulipund and Punabi, and his route didn't take him near lava floes), and West Gash (just around Balmora). He has yet to even set foot in Sheogorad, Azura's Coast, the Grazelands, or any Telvanni settlement, and he doesn't have either expansion.
The only thing I dislike about the Oblivion is how repetitive it can be. A lot of the people have the same voice, houses have the same layout, places on the ground have the same repeating texture (4:35, on the hill to the left), and many rocks/trees look identical.
Hopefully in TES V (if their is one) things won't be as repetitive.
@35g70 do you accually expect them to make everythin in the game custum, wich I spelled wrong I think, but still a custum voice for every person would be cool, but would cost ALOT in voice acting.
Environment is amazing in oblivion I used to play the pc edition but it was to hard cuz I played on a laptop and I have no room now I play ps3 oblivion GOTY
Wow Gix you really get into role play. I never had a thought of feeding my horse. But I always role play my character to eat every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And go to the tavern and get "drunk" and take my shirt off and through objects all over the place and beat people up. Good times...
@everman111 His morrowind lp is far more entertaining due to the fact that he's exploring the world for the first time. Not to mention it's the better and more fascinating game/world.
Dude... I love you xD You're videos are so awesome I can't even describe it!
And I really don't mind that you're talking about the enviroments much, it's kinda relaxing actually :3 And Oblivion's enviroments is just fantastic, and I completely agree with everything you're saying!
Once you've played OB at least for a 2 or more playthroughs, the environment starts to get really stale. Especially since if you don't mod, you cant see far and it breaks immersion because its like "ooh look a tree, wait where are the others?"
Dude. I love your view of the environment being familiar and detailed... Just wait until you explore more of Skyrim =P

@Corzicant so he hasn't gotten to any of those places in his Morrowind LP?
L337574PL3R 1 year ago
@L337574PL3R He's seen very limited parts of the Ashlands (he's been to Ald'ruhn and Maar Gan, and hasn't ventured outside of either), Molag Amur (he did the Mages Guild quest to Sulipund and Punabi, and his route didn't take him near lava floes), and West Gash (just around Balmora). He has yet to even set foot in Sheogorad, Azura's Coast, the Grazelands, or any Telvanni settlement, and he doesn't have either expansion.

this guy is totally right. morrowind was kinda superior to oblivion in every way except the alchemy system which is brutal in morrowind :P

Hey gix, you should do a "Lets play The Shivering Isles". That would be cool.

@35g70 TES V has been confirmed.

Awesome.

@35g70 do you accually expect them to make everythin in the game custum, wich I spelled wrong I think, but still a custum voice for every person would be cool, but would cost ALOT in voice acting.
Anyways655 1 year ago
@Anyways655
No, but they could at least put 2-4 times the voice actors so that the beggars don't have the same voice as the the guards.
And by the way, its spelled custom =]

Wow Gix you really get into role play. I never had a thought of feeding my horse. But I always role play my character to eat every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And go to the tavern and get "drunk" and take my shirt off and through objects all over the place and beat people up. Good times...
JSSJR90 1 year ago
Did you really just give the horse a carrot? Its not going to eat it.

everman111 1 year ago
@everman111 His morrowind lp is far more entertaining due to the fact that he's exploring the world for the first time. Not to mention it's the better and more fascinating game/world.

Dude... I love you xD You're videos are so awesome I can't even describe it!
And I really don't mind that you're talking about the enviroments much, it's kinda relaxing actually :3 And Oblivion's enviroments is just fantastic, and I completely agree with everything you're saying!
"Did I get confused again? :("
kfksl 1 year ago
Once you've played OB at least for a 2 or more playthroughs, the environment starts to get really stale. Especially since if you don't mod, you cant see far and it breaks immersion because its like "ooh look a tree, wait where are the others?"
