Yes, it's a 7.1 Dolby surround sound headset. It's not a "true 7.1" and that's why it doesn't have multiple speakings in each ear-cup man.
Don't know why you'd be disappointed since it doesn't say it's a true 7.1.
Razer made a true 7.1 surround sound the Tiamat True 7.1 Headset. It's due to come out any day now- I believe they are the first to do this(?). So well, I don't know what you're on about.
Wow. Thank you. I was looking at buying these, but not any more. I'm a little angry about these things now. They say 7.1 so I was expecting multiple speakers per ear. After seeing this I now know that not only are there not multiple speakers per ear, but they're not even 50 mm speakers.
Good job Sennheiser. You not only lost a customer permanently (for any of your products), but also gained a troll.
There's no such thing as a true surround headset because all the speakers are at the sides of your head and not where they should be. Dolby Headphone is designed to give the sensation of surround through stereo speakers. Larger audio drivers help reproduce the sensation. 40mm just doesn't cut it. The best thing to do is get a sound card with Dolby Headphone and then get a high quality headset with at least 50mm drivers.
@Swecan76 Larger drivers give better amplification of ambient sounds and in the case of virtual surround, ambient cues is how they achieve the effect of surround sound. You obviously don't know much about virtual surround either.

The reviewer obviously doesn't really know about virtual sound positioning technology.
Having 4 speakers in each ear doesn't really produce better sound anyways, the virtual ones uses software algorithms to create positional audio.
These are for gaming and virtual 7.1 makes for really good sound positioning.
I've owned at least 2 different kinds and you can easily tell proper direction of sound.
IE, used for gaming, like shooters etc.

@Snapscape Yeah, you're kind of full of shit.
Sennheiser 555 have 40mm drivers, and they are excellent.
50mm drivers doesn't mean automatically better sound, only a fool would think so.
These things are quality headsets, also using a soundcard like Asus Zonar that also employ dolby headphone and pro logic 2x is the SAME thing.
These do it with the sound card BUILT into the USB.
Also sound positioning of virtual 7.1 headsets are very good, I know cause I've owned 2 of them, IE good for gaming.
