  • Reving the 540 CI big block to 8000 RPM's is one thing but the 540 making power at that RPM is another. I have raced many versions of big block Chevy's through the years and I highly doubt your street 540 has the heads, cam and induction system that is still building horsepower at 8000. Most tail off at about 7200 on the Dyno anything after that is on the backside of the power curve and pointless. Yes, that includes the Merlin's.

  • @1951RKP You are exactly right. The power drops off around 7k.

  • HOLY GOD

  • FREE TIME SAVER BUTTON RIGHT HERE! > 0:30

  • Sorry my friend its Sonny engines. And yes theyre raced and very effectively with a rpm limit around 9500-10,000rpm. Heres a link bud. sonnysracingengines

  • fuck jeah, nice

  • hm... fun driving!

  • Can i get a damn

  • This guy is a dip shit shifting at 7500 and 8000 with a big block. Look up his other videos and you will find him whining and crying about how his engines blew up and came apart. This guy is stupid.

  • @2008atomic Shutup troll, you obviously don't know what your talking about. A performance solid roller BBC like this one is EASILY capable of continuous 8k rpm shifts.

  • Sick!

  • Point me in the right direction please. Are you running a solid roller, some valve springs that support over .700 lift and possibly a rev kit. That engine sounds real sweet. I just hope that my stock block 468 revs to 6,500.

  • no bitches here.....just a big dose of something that would make you wish you were born a woman.

  • Nice driving taking control of the vehicle when it slide like that. I've done that to my Jeep with the 360 in it held control of it, thankfully because its AWD and im not a dumbass.. But it sure was an experience to remember :P

Of course my stock 360 is nothing compared to this, still powerfull compared to most vehicles on the road nontheless. I'll drive nothing but 8 cyl vehicles, unless gas reach like 5-6$ a gallon.. Atm i get 13 city lol and 18.6 highway.. them magnum sure like gas

  • @1ownjoo2 £6.30 a gallon over here in the UK at the minute mate. Wish I lived in the US. My 2litre van cost me around £74 to fill up. That may last me 7-8 days! Fucking shocking over here!

  • @jaymanleonard what are you talkign about? the vaux victor 2200 bhp NA LMFAO dumbass do your research that is twin turboed and it has nitrous. If you're telling me you know of an engine that makes 2200BHP NA then why don't you share it to the world you'll make money for the rest of your life. You can TT a supra up to 2000 hp.. its just stupid to do so. No way in hell it runs 2200 bhp NA unless you're running alcohol and a bit built in some places. Fully built can even reach 9k bhp.

  • @ItsMrWinters Ive just checked and I stand corrected. The info I had on the Victor stated it as N/A. And yes you can tune Supras up to 2000bhp and yes it is stupid to do so because the engine wont last. Regardless if i was corrected on the victor, american V8s ARE better and stronger than Japanese engines. Also take the best diesel engines, Cummins. Theyre american too. Oh, and im a dumbass? I think not so go fuck yourself!

  • @jaymanleonard go fuck yourself? you're taking a bit too far. I say dumbass because thats what i use those words for, its just a word, others perceive badly about it. ANYWAY, no, american v8's aren't better than japanese engines. Japanese engines aren't better than american v8's. All engines are engines, its just the matter of size, fuel and air coming in, how fast it is burned, efficiency, and everything else that factors in a great explosion. We "perfected" the v8, japanese "perfected" econbox

  • @ItsMrWinters Fair enough. I apologize for the insult.

  • @ItsMrWinters the Weineck Shelby Cobra is N/A and that puts out 1100bhp. So Im half way there. Also heres an attempt at japan making a V8. The toyota Tundra's i-Force 5.7-liter V-8 puts out 380bhp, has 32 valves and dohcs. But lexus reckon they could boost it above 400. 400bhp is that it? See what they done is fucked on with ohcs and loads of valves when they should just whack on a monster carb on a monster manifold and lengthen the stroke and increase the capacity. Enough torque to bend time!

  • @jaymanleonard show me a na v8 making 2200hp

    your full of shit

  • @sciullo779 Im full of shit? No, the info I had was false and I opened my trap before checking it was accurate. Which I stated in a later comment. The comment in which i said 'I stand corrected.'

  • @sciullo779 well in Hot Rod's feb 2012 mag there was a rat rod that was making in the ball park of 2000hp N/A and that engine is made here in the u.s.a well to my knowlege any ways, but as they say anything is posible with deep enuf pockets lol.

  • @sciullo779 Sunny V8 1050ci engine. Check them out at Sunny performance website.

  • @Boredout454 couldnt find anything with google, but a 17L engine is hardly practical in any racing application

  • @jaymanleonard *naturally aspirated, but well said!

  • @jaymanleonard

that vauxhall is a twinturbo on methanol..

  • @roodgeregeld yeah I know. I corrected that a day or two after the original comment, I read some shit info. But thanks for being polite. Most get real shitty with me for making a mistake.

  • @jaymanleonard A guy my dad used to work with just traded 6 mustangs (2 Old boss 302's, a 1992 5.0, and a '67 which made around 5000hp street legal...

    Traded em for a 2012 Audi R8 5.2

  • @twizz420 cool story bra :)

  • @jaymanleonard i agree with you but the victor 1 is a twin turbo 9.3L BBC

  • @jaymanleonard Thats funny, because most of the cars you mention are making 6 second drag passes, and there's plenty of smaller japanese engines making in excess of 1000hp in a chassis thats making the same 6 second passes with half the horsepower.

Look up PAC Performance's rotary powered drag cars or many other import cars making 6 second passes without the aid of massive displacement. Some are already itching the 5second barrier with Japanese V8s from Toyota and Nissan.

  • @jaymanleonard I can even do the search for you and show that japanese engines are just as capable as any lumpy V8.

I respect the V8 for what it is, but you cant claim ignorance if you blind yourself from the simple fact that there are smaller engines giving most V8s a run for their money.

  • @rotor13 hey its simple.....the more cylinders...the more torque and hp ....a Japanese engine may be capable hp wise...but will never have the torque numbers a good ol' American V8 will have...even if you do get the hp up to 500 hp ...it will have the reliability of a black man in a knife fight.

  • @rotor13 Sure a V6 can put out what a V8 can...with forced induction. It comes down to the fact that a V8 can say "anything you can do, I can do better" to a V6. Boyle's law my friend. For a fixed amount of an ideal gas, volume and pressure are inversely proportional. And everyone knows they sound better...you'd have to be a fool think otherwise. A bigger V6 these days puts out low 300s hp, but small V8s put out mid to high 300s. A big V8 will put out low to mid 400s.

  • @roberth214 Guess you missed the part where I said a japanese motors are giving V8s a run for their money.

I respect the V8 for what it is, and yes you're right a V8 will do everything better, but you cant deny that smaller engines are giving these V8s a run for their money.

  • @rotor13 forced induction? Oh boy, we're talking 500+ hp. Even 600s stock. It's easier to get a 1500hp corvette than a 1500hp skyline. Have you seen the 2200 hp pontiac GTO? Hell, some chevy big blocks can easily get 1000 hp without any forced induction. Can't do that with a skyline.

  • @roberth214 Does it matter? Power is power..... I see 2000+hp V8s boosted and all motor as well and they're only pulling mid 6's and the better dialed in cars are pulling high 5's.

Power is power no matter how its made.

  • @rotor13 Like I said, show me! Your like every other Jap fan. Fighting their corner without showing any proof.

  • @jaymanleonard watch?v=U3uiuCqbHyw

    watch?v=t9AaRKPcvYs

    watch?v=YJC8DsMzl7A

  • @rotor13 That was a pretty mad turbo b. But dont forget that the rotary engine is a german invention!!! Not strictly Japanese but since the Japs have improved on the original german design, ill give you that one. Great video...

  • @jaymanleonard Dont forget that Chevy was also investing heavily into the Rotary's R&D when they were prototyping it for their Corvette going with a 4rotor design. Among many other American manufacturers before WWI tried to perfect the design. Most didnt want to risk any more millions that they already budgeted for the development. Just about every automotive and aeronautical manufacturer tried, few succeeded

  • @rotor13 before WW1? Felix Wankel didnt conceive the design until 1929. And even then it wasnt til the 50s that he started to develop the engine. During the war he mainly worked on concept engines and rotary valves for the german airforce and navy.

  • @jaymanleonard I was paraphrasing

  • @rotor13 You were paraphrasing? So some other numpty doesnt have a clue about the history of the rotary engine and you decided to regurgitate? fair enough...

  • @jaymanleonard I have the books, would you like me to read you a bedtime story?

  • @rotor13 ha ha yes please. My bed time books are generally about vehicles. Cars, WW2 AFVs and aircraft. I find it fascinating! I would love to know what books are telling you about the development of the rotary engine pre WW1, since like I said, it wasnt concieved until 1929. If your books are correct, which theyre not by the way, that would mean that Wankel made his prototype when he was about 10 years old. Read your books again carefully or throw them away.

  • @jaymanleonard I feel like a dyslexic idiot..... I cracked open "Wankel Rotary Engine" by John B. Hege.

  • @rotor13 I know the book.

  • I've been watching these videos pop up on the side from Merlin. I really enjoy them so I sub'd ya.

  • nice need to check the tires probably just ate half of the life on them

  • @MrHumbleness Are you retarded?

  • @MrHumbleness Don't be mad because you can't fit all those cubic inches in your pussy. Pretty lame comment.

  • wow thats fucking bad ass man

  • @MrHumbleness Why are you even watching this video if your gonna make such a lame ass comment. Nice video uploads you have....oh wait...you dont have any cause your a widdle teenager that has all the time in the world to talk shit to people cause your jealous...bahahaha

  • Goodness CC's are for bike. In cars we use liters or cubic inches. 9000 cc? Wth!.

  • you cant hide you smile!!! when you whip it around a corner :D haha nice one

  • Could very well be a BB at 8k, but is it making power up there ? Chances are it isnt so save you engine and shift a bit lower. Unless of course you were just doing this to prove it could do it.

  • @12salem If it's a Merlin 540, I'll bet it makes plenty of power in the top end. That's what they're made for.

  • @justforever96 Yeah your not really correct in that statement. Most street driven and even race spec built engines do not make peak power anywhere near that, so theres no reason to rev it that high nor is that "what its built for". If you ever get a chance to build any V8 engines your self or run them on a dyno you'll see what I mean. over and out.

  • @12salem Hey, I know almost nothing about Merlins; I've only read that they are popular as drag engines. I was suggesting that even if it's not making it's full potential at those revs, it's still probably making three times what your average 350 SBC makes, and it's built solidly enough that unless you take it to 8K habitually, you probably won't grenade anything. But now I'm curious about what the typical Merlin power curve looks like. Do you think the 509/540's are just destroked 572's?

  • @justforever96 A Merlin is just the name of the block used to build the engine, so what bore stroke he used I do not know. Although bore and stroke will have a factor in the engines abillity to rev its more the head cam combo that would dictate where the power would be. To make peak power that high would require a port and cam that would be very unstreetable. Im sure this vette makes plenty of power, but if it peaks at say 6200-6400 he should be shifting at 6800-7000 depending on gear.

  • @justforever96 Check World Products / Bill Mitchell that should answer any questions. Unfortunately they dont have any dyno sheets . This vette sounds like the street trim 540 by the way it reacts down low.

  • bitchin vette man!

  • Awesome car and vid! Make the haters your motivators. :-{)

  • That is one awesome sounding car. That engine must be a work of art.

  • look at that smile on his face. you know hes having fun haha

  • SLOW DOWN GRAMPS! BREAK IS THE LEFT PEDDLE

  • looking back at the marks... YEAH!

  • i beileve it

  • Sounds like 8,000rpm, but don't sound like a big block. Can we get an engine view?

  • @hellostephandjoe I'm pretty sure it's a big block! Yes, many of my other vids have engine shots, check out: Dave's 70 Vette - A 700hp Tour. One of the most under-rated videos on YT, IMO. :)

  • @540merlin hey i love your videos, i was wondering what kind of tranny and gear are you running? thanks

  • @wapitiman100 Retard

  • @hellostephandjoe piss off im going to tongue punch your mums fart box then read a book

  • @wapitiman100 Quarter million dollar shit heap.

  • @540merlin Just laugh at him when he snaps his cam belt and bends all his valves... ;-) Great Vette by the way!

  • @jaymanleonard I bet it has a timing chain not a belt, probably a double roller because its a bbc not a 4 cylinder. Unless he changed it to have a belt instead, but its not likely. And not to mention its a 540 merlin block, so I'm sure its built pretty well.

  • @cutlassrkt Im well aware its a 540 bb with a timing chain and p-rodded valves. I was talking about the muppet telling the car owner to get some over head cams, which mostly use belts. 16V 4pots or 24V straight 6s etc. Very costly and amusing when the timing belts snap because they are driven by fucking idiots who know bugger all about engines and think that their type R can piss all over anything. Hope i dont come across shitty, Id just hate you to think i was another ignorant numpty ;-)

  • @jaymanleonard gotcha. yeah you don't need all that to rev to 8000rpms.

  • @cutlassrkt

Hell i have a double roller on my 360... any V8 IMO should have a double roller chain.. Helps with high RPM 's and helps better with timing.

  • @wapitiman100 the LTX and LSX have been proving that you dont need OHC at all for the past 20 years.Get off your god damn 'engine of the future' high horse .

  • @rockerdude29 bullshit gay boy they are just over sized lumps of crap push rod engines went out along time ago

  • @wapitiman100 lmao....thats why there is an LSX crate engine capable of 2500hp...Idiots like you are what is wrong with the car scene nowadays, you fucking automotive elitists...."Its not DOHC? JUNK" lmao....those POS pushrods have been dominating LeMans racing ever since the C5 corvette started racing.OHV is cheap, reliable, and capable of making insane horsepower, and much lower maintainence than any OHC engine...Just gtfo you troll.

  • @rockerdude29 you yanks have your heads in the sand massive push rod engines pumping out no power ohc valve trains out last push rods any day miles and hour cubic inches herd of the metric system you back to front bitch i suppose you think Harley davidson make performance motorcycles to do ya? im surprised you don't go back to air cooled engines to power your cars mite as well drive a tractor mate

  • @wapitiman100 just shut the hell up.

  • @rockerdude29 thats what i say to your mum

  • @wapitiman100 Push rods are crazy reliable, make insane power, and even though I LOVE all cars,DOHC,OHC,OHV,turbo,N/A,FWD,RWD,AWD,etc...Im not a god damn xenophobe.Yes Dohc can make amazing hp per liter, but it usually cant take the beating an OHV can,the ohv is low maintenance, and cheap to build,I really dont know why you are hating so hard.Probably got your ass beat in a DOHC car by an LS1 camaro or something,I dont know what your godamn deal is.

  • @rockerdude29 get back on your horse and cart boy

  • @wapitiman100 so why is it that the PUSHROD OHV corvette ZR1 is faster than lambo murcielago, ferrari enzo, ferrari 458, koenigsegg ccx, pagani zonda, slr mclaren, ford gt, audi r8, nissan gt-r, etc. And not only in a strait line, but also faster around the Nurburgring. You need to pull your head out of your ass and wake up to the real world.

  • @Chris02LS1ss Well said. Thank you.

  • @Chris02LS1ss Lol the pushrod OHV V10 Viper ACR is faster then a Lambo as well lol and holds the record for Nurburgring.

  • @wapitiman100 Shit heap? Lets see what you have, tell us about your great car and the title of the vids so we can see if you have something better.

  • @wapitiman100 Insecure body builder alert!!! Go back to school and learn your grammar. Push rod engines have been around forever and make way more power your VTEC. OH FUCK I BROKE A CAM GEAR = Complete engine overhaul. Valve's dented pistons, valve are destroyed, cylinder head combustion chamber all dented up, possible block damage.... As were, OH FUCK I BENT A PUSH ROD = Replace a push rod and readjust the timing. You sir are a troll, Good night.

  • @Uunster what a tool how are you going to break a cam gear? hit it with a hammer?

  • @wapitiman100 No tool. Just a part failure. It happens a lot with over head cams. Consult your local Google search. You'll see.

  • @wapitiman100 Much rather bend a pushrod than to lose a timing belt or chain at 5000rpm!

  • @wapitiman100 hope you have one of those OHC motors that when the chain or shitty belt breaks you smash every valve and destroy your engine

  • @osp80 the only reason the belt would break is if a fat lazy yank like your self is too usless to change it every 100,000km. no modern performance engines use push rods see any 4 stroke mx bikes using them? jap street bikes? push rod engines cant handle the rpm

  • @wapitiman100 nothing like having to take the whole front cover off an engine to replace a part that should last near the life of the engine.if it's larger displacement it doesn't need as much rpm.you have to ask yourself why a 505hp 7.0 z06 gets better mileage than a high strung but lower hp 4.3 ferrari 430 while the engine is more compact and easier and cheaper to build and also cheaper and easier to maintain.who's the real winner there?BTW you saying this where a 9L engine is pulling 8k rpm

  • @osp80 i have a 4000cc toyota v8 in my jet boat with twin turbos cost me 1000 bucks for the engine 3500 for the turbo kit rebuilt the engine with forged pistons rods cams and a aftermarket ecu makes 1200hp at the crank im only revving it to 7500rpm cost 10grand all up all alloy you dont need a fukn 9000cc engine in a car i can change the cam belt in 2 hours and the kit costs 200 dollars

  • @wapitiman100 It helps when you have video proof.

  • @wapitiman100 i don't have to change a belt and that's free.you're saying a 4.0 v8 with twin turbos can make 1200hp at 7500 rpm,no wai!!!you seem like too much a ricer to have anything 1200hp anyway though.people with actual things usually don't troll vids with ricer type comments

  • @wapitiman100 Punctuation is your friend.

  • @wapitiman100 your talking motorbikes.. bikes that consistently hold over 9k rpm. up until 9 there is almost no point for a larger more complex and most the time heavier ohc or dohc setup when push-rod engines usually have much better thermal efficiency.. Nascar use push-rod v8's. they hold 9k rpm consistently and have a higher peak stress on the crankshaft than a formula 1. Mainly due to the long stroke. The number of race and proformance cars using push-rod v8s is very high.

  • @wapitiman100 "no modern performance engines use push rods". WRONG: LS7, LS9, LS3, LS2, LS1, LS9 Viper V10, All the new modern Hemi's 5.7, 6.1 and the new 6.4. While I agree, OHC engines are superior when it comes to horsepower efficiency, to say that OHV engines do not have their place in the performance industry would be completely reckless. Biggest reasons being they are simpler, smaller, and lighter than OHC engines and still being used like cars like the current Corvette Z06.

  • @sniper1334 Thats what i call one shot one kill Lol!!!

  • @wapitiman100

That or us fat lazy yanks cant afford $800 to change a worthless rubber belt. A lot of engines these days made by foreign companys put the engine in such a wierd position that it requires you to remove the engine to replace the timing belt... Had a Mitsubishi endeavour once that had that issue.. would have costed us $700 to replace it so we sold it, and got an American Jeep with an American V8 with a timing chain i replaced myself..

  • @1ownjoo2 you realize mitsuishi is a clusterfuck of american cars right?

  • @wapitiman100 your an idiot

  • bad ass vette. good to see someone drive it like it should be. p.s. if you know any grey hair restorers i have a 69.427 block for sale. i too want to make that kinda power just not break a rare block.

  • Bond....James Bond

  • It didnt sound like it was spinning 8000 rpms . I find it hard to believe that can be done routinely with a 540 BB motor . Take a video of the Tach with you shifting. Thanks.

  • @DaveTheyCallme Do a web search about SBC and BBC that have proper settings and see for yourself

  • @DaveTheyCallme Properly built, 8-9k sure... would you do it often? no...

  • will u donate this car to the poor college kid fund for kids who love muscle cars and know by the time they can afford one they are going to be all but extinct?

  • Kind of looks like my moms old corvette hers was a 74 4 speed manual power windows convertable and it had ac that was a rare car

  • i can watch this a hundred times and never stop giggleing like a 8 yearold little girl, 8000rpm outtta a bigblock is insane, thank god for 110octane and 4speeds and wild cams

  • I believe it.My stock internal ls4 with a tune will hit 7,000.

  • Awful driver

  • I give the old guy credit, he;s out there gettin' some.

  • @nancyhoralia Ouch.

  • @nancyhoralia I have to say. 540merlin controlled the car pretty well! That vette is REALLY light..throw in a few hundred horsepower, and it gets hairy quick...

  • @TA6612 There's only like 10 seconds of me driving in this video, its a little hard to judge my abilities!

  • @540merlin that BBC revveed pretty damned good imho

  • @nancyhoralia Are you 12, there was nothing wrong with how he drove it in this vid... He drove it hard and controlled it perfectly.

  • Holy shit, it's Kenny Rogers!

  • @mrceebees14 That's a first.

  • 8k is high for an american v8! i bet it makes insane power up top.

  • @scarface115 Nope. It pulls strong to around 6500 then it just keeps revving - no power to speak of.

  • @scarface115 The racers have been doing 8000rpm since the 70's WTF are you talking about? Try Trans-am and drag racing.

  • Hahahaaah, holy fuck. Didn't sound like a big block though in the video. Bad sound quality lol.

  • @ryanericw Agreed, although others seem to like it. Whatever.

  • lol that puts rustangs to shame.

  • talking about that sick drift/fishtail...fucking 360'ed cuz i did what u did, but being only 16, i didnt look around.....didnt crash but a cop saw.....reckless driving....lol

  • @whysosad1234 fight the ticket in court.

  • we rescued an 85 vette its now sitting in out drive way running and ready to be my first car

  • @highwaystar148 Cool. Post some vids.

  • @540merlin will soon somethings wrong with it right now the key swith got stuck and wont go back

  • @highwaystar148 dude your so lucky

  • @gunnyx324 yea

  • youtube needs a new reaction. (FUCK)

  • Theedster you have no balls since you said that. That's the point of fast cars jackass just cause you can't drive we don't gotta go to track

  • can these engines really take 8000 rpm shifts and not blow out on you in a couple months? Got a rev limiter on mine for 8k but I dont want to blow the engine to find out if it will reach it

  • @pimbuk You HAVE to upgrade the valve train, cranks etc. You can't buy bargins either. My uncle blew the engine in his 67' Goat because he set the rev limit to 6200 when he didn't upgrade the internals.

  • @pimbuk No.

  • whoa

  • @JULIOAA1 That's my favorite line from my favorite movie. Anybody else recognize it?

  • nice..! cool video gets u pumped up just watching it...

  • @leocurby Thas what 911SHIZBO said.

  • They don't make em' like they used too. :-(

  • yea man!! looks like fun.

  • Wow, that seemed sooooo necessary. It's dicks like you that ruin having nice, fast cars for everyone else. Prick. Go find a track somewhere and blow off some steam. In the meantime, go for a jog or something.

  • @theedster123 mind you're own business fucking idiot

  • @theedster123 I'm too old and fat to go for a long jog, but I appreciate the advice.

  • o yeah that sounds bad ass and nice driving. Click on the "Like"

  • Hah wow....this gets my adrenaline just watching:P

  • @911SHIZBO Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Maybe you should have waited a little bit more to turn all the way and then slam on it at least you know how to handle phew!

  • @W4TCH4W Drifting is fun.

  • The 1.3L 3 cylinder in my friends 1995 Geo Metro 2 door 5 speed could smoke this big block any day of the week.... except mon-sun 12am to 12pm.

  • @Ry4nH4m1ll It probably would.

  • @540merlin Line em up?

  • @Ry4nH4m1ll

The 3 cylinder is a 1.0 the 1.3 is a 4 cylinder. i am a proud owner of a 89 SSGTi with the 1.3 twincam, there are only a few in the world that would out run this vet.

  • @metroswiftman Even if you did outrun him, you'd still look like a poor idiot with a pathetic car compared to a mean sounding vette. I could outrun your car on a 1.4l motorcycle, but you don't see me bragging. Vette/Motorcycle has way more style than a pos GTI.

  • @Ry4nH4m1ll hahaha it'll never smoke it
