I agree the display tanks look very artificial indeed. I've seen home aquarium enthusiasts (with much MUCH smaller budgets) with live coral/anemone reef ecosystems with fantastic varieties of fish. They put these tanks to shame.
@PaNdeM0niuM not any less stressful than being on display indoors. as with most large/public display aquariums, the fish tend to acclimate to the audience as well as their new home. however, in all honesty, we had the garibaldi tank covered for two weeks prior to exposing the fish to the public.
i think the tanks in any rainforest cafe are much nicer and larger fish. and i would of liked to see and outdoor living reef. nice systems tho. filtration wize.
Those plastic things you had in your hand are K1 media. I dont think water suppose to trickle over them like bio balls. they are suppose to be fully submerse in water and floating around in a chaotic fashion by using air pumps
@nakedrunner7 you are correct. "trickle" was the wrong word to use but i assure you that it was engineered correctly. Notice the 4:50 mark, you can see the drain is equal in height to the return and you'll notice the 3/4" vinyl tubing on top which is fed by the air compressor nearby- providing the much needed oxygen inside the vessel. good looking out! sounds like you know your stuff...
hey how r u? I have 10 African Cichlid babies they are about 1 inch and i want to know how many times should i feed them and what is the best type of African cichlid food?
@zainzulfiqar the best for any aquarium is a blend of frozen foods that are packed with vitamins and nutrients. if you want to take an "easier" approach, african cichlids will thrive off of a good formula flake or pellet food. Spectrum, Ocean Nutrition, and Hikari are all reputable brands that you might consider.
how does having outdoor aquariums, eco friendly??? the setup for the outdoor aquarium is most likely not eco friendly. Dropping aquarium water from an ambient temp of 100 degree, to a low 65 degee is not an efficient task.
Great tanks and thanks for showing us the pump room. That was the best part for me. My issue is with the tanks being too accesable to the public. People are lets face it stupid, parents don't watch their kids or what ever but that was not your call.
Thanks, one questions for you. How are you supplying water for water changes? Thanks a lot and really enjoyed the customs on your web page too. Can not wait for more install pics and customs.
Great question- Being in L.A., we have a lot of excellent resources at our disposal, one being the ocean. We use a company that pulls water from the Pacific, filters and conditions it, and then delivers it by the thousands of gallons to our job sites. We can do a 1500 gallon water change in about an hour...not bad.
Oops, lol did he say environmentally friendly mall.... Huge uv's, chillers, ozone and heaters aren't that green :-p

Question:
Is it stressful for the fish to be in outdoor aquariums?
The general public can tap oon the glass and disturb the fish.
Are there any safety control measures to prevent that from happening?
thicker glass? one-way mirror?

What brand of chillers and heatpumps are you using here?
Also curious as to the brand of pressure canister filters in this filter.
PS thats a sexy skimmer.
