Konstantin, you have the idea, the understanding that the Glassian ostinatos and wandering melody can take us to the borderline place where we are free to consider what we have done and could do to evolve as human beings.
Its not like I know anything about music except being able to appreciate it... This is very uninspirered and stripps a beautiful, thrilling and moving piece of music into sheer sheet music. Shame.
well plsjtj, that's one opinion, and an interesting one. But I disagree.
The main theme in the movie, however well orchestrated, was carried by the piano. It is not inappropriate to attempt that theme by solo piano and do it justice.
I see how you'd say that in response to what my exact wording was. However I can't get enough of, for example, Parlic's performances of the same piece (or any other). It's not the lack of instrumentals, it's the way it is played that does not appeal to my personal taste. Which is indeed only personal :)
The arpeggio part looses all of its intrigue without the repetition. The way it transforms back into itself after the kind of rolling lull is most of the point of it. It is a little fast for my taste, but still enjoyable to listen to all the same, he is obviously VERY talented.
theres a HUGE mistake at 3:33 when playing the arpeggio part, that should be played twice, the first part its ok but then he starts to speed up and looses all the feeling of the song 3/5
lol the fact that the music is easy to play doesn't mean you can't put any sensitivity in it O.o dunno if the pianist ever saw the movie.. quite a hint to do then you'll play it differently.. I think it is fairly misinterptretated almost an insult to philip glass
Hey there - New Orleans tonight - I watched/listened the hours for three hours while I read the paper and counted change. Wow > you play well enough that I forgot I was listening to somebody playing....I thought I was listening to my inner soundtrack. Good to meet you - email you sometime.
This piano piece is actually pretty easy

Way TOO fast! It's supposed to have a sense of melancholy! I didn't feel that!

I think he plays this fine. . .and the arpeggio part would seem redundant live. . .perhaps that's why he didn't repeat it

well.. I may lack major knowledge about music..
But accordingly only to me liking Philip Glass a lot ..
i must say that playing this piece sounds quite Ridiculous from 1:51 and after..
sorry for the hard word.. but it's ... ew..
Although it's quite ok till 1:51
(maybe at about 3:40 such velocity would be nice.. but then again..nah )

He only plays the piece a bit faster than the movie so he should not slow it "way down." Very well done. Superb playing.

Beautiful videos. I love the music from The Hours, but this is my favourite one. He plays them very well. Well done :)
