Now, how on earth do you get this track off the album? Thanks for posting this - that's beyond awesome, but I'd also love the hidden X-Files theme track that comes right after, but I can't figure out how one gets these tracks - my computer doesn't 'see' them. :(
Be very careful how you interpret the meaning of this song. It's not saying Jesus isn't coming back, it's saying once Jesus has gone, it's too late for you.
Notice how they forced the demon to tell them what it all meant and the demon said "Dread the passage of Jesus for he will not return.", then they forgot the message, and one day the stars are all wrong.... and suddenly they remember.
He's painting a picture of people who forgot the message of Jesus, and are left behind to their doom.
@underriot Obviously, one should take from a song what he or she wishes- but I don't think it's literally about the return of Christ or the repercussions of lost faith, etc. It's more about an expired love or a love gone wrong.
And I meant "violin" as yes my example used Nick DRAKE, just before someone 'corrects' me. I'm fully aware this song is Nick CAVE and The Dirty Three. I was just pointing out that Mr. Drake was famous for using unusual tunings, and I doubt anyone of sound musical taste would find him "slightly" out of tune or deficient in any way - the man was a genius. Tim Buckley used off tunings as well; so do many artists. Come correct if you're going to say things with some kind of musical authority.
There is no right or wrong tuning, just away from the average. One of my favourite artists uses altered tuning in almost every song, and its wonderful.
For anyone to point out "The tuning is wrong" has no right to do so. Who cares how its tuned as long as it sounds good.
No it's not, it's tuned that way on pupose to give the mournful sound. Musicians can tune any way they want; this isn't discordant in any way. Nick Drake used very unusual tunings, but he was "in tune" for his songs. It's not an absolute things, it has to be taken in context. Does this sound like wailing? It's probably meant to. Does it sound bad? Not to me - I wouldn't want a brighter violen tuning here.

Thanks for the upload. Did you also find the version of the X Files theme by the Dirty Three that way? Does anyone know a place to hear that?

@underriot
Or maybe Jesus did return 'like a thief in the night',
And nobody noticed,
And we are all damned,
Especially those who think they are saved,
For they cling blindly to a False Hope.

@PeterThenn
Yes, many ways to interpret this song. In any case it's a song of little hope :).

@underriot Don't forget who gave them the message in the first place... it's not like demons are known for sticking to the truth at all costs!
