  • Sheila is hot!!

  • For God's sake do not dare to compare Chandra with Shakira. Shakira dances an acrobatic adaptation of belly dance ( Arabic) and copies Sinead O' Connor and Alanis Morissette's style of singing, Sheila Chandra is performing here a mix of Indian ( Ifrom INDIA!!!) and western dance- music-interpretation..., she doesnt need to expose her body and color her hair blond to show her unique talent

  • i hope people realise this is not muslim shit

  • wow it would take two decades for this song to be appreciated via Jakatta's masterful remix

  • This great track Ever So Lonely Monsoon.

This record released 22 February 1982 had reached No 7 in May 1982.

Three Years Later when it was re-relased on 1st July 1985, Monsoon Ever So Lonely 85 er-charted in August 1985 had reached no 2 this time round in September 1985.

  • I remember when this song came out I thought it would revolutionise music as a new fusion of east and west musical styles, but then it all but disappeared until Kula Shaker and Bhangra in the 90's. Still sounds as fresh as it did 29 years ago!

  • Like the original by Shakira more

  • @666oelewapper Shakira was about 5 years old when Monsoon released this version of this song! LOL

  • @666oelewapper Shakira's is not the original, but Sheila Chandra is

  • Great song, and Sheila is of course very talented. I've enjoyed much of her post-Monsoon work!

  • This is a great example of an extrodinary voice creating something timeless. Not to pour my guts out upon an innocent youtube comment, but this song has changed my life. Thankfully I heard this song on KDVS on my way to work and now my taste in music has completely changed for the better. Both mentally and physically. Physically meaning great workout music! Anywho, thank you for uploading this! Peace and love be with you.

  • she is special and third eye is a must have lp - great instrumentation and vocals

  • Hi, hi, hi. Look how all the white people (i`m white myself by the way) dance to this song. And compare it with Sheila`s spiritual pride and grace.

And we are the one who judge and call primitive those who are not infected by McDonalds and Hollywood. We sure have a lot of growing up to do.

I feel blessed having the Real World recordings in my cd- collection.

Thank you Sheila for introducing diversity to the pop- culture.

  • Can't believe this is from 1982 ! This song sounds million times fresher than anything in 2010....

  • @stmayhem1 We were thinking the same thing. Must be a classic then.

  • i like the side ponytail

  • Love love love this song...

  • Ever so great !

  • love sheila! is it true she was 16-ish around that time? that makes it all more impressive.

  • I cant understand how such a talent could go unnoticed in the US this long !

  • 1982 when she was 16. As for Ray of Light Madonna steals from everybody, she has the money after all.

  • doesn't this song sound very much like that Madonna song, "Ray of light"?

  • Wow. Very ahead of it's time. She looks so young here.

  • such an amazing song...

  • She is absolutely lovely and the song is marvellous.

  • I wonder if that guy can play "Stairway To Heaven" on that instrument?

  • So amazingly beautiful.

  • This song was way ahead of its time.

  • Coming from a classical music background myself, I really appreciate your loyalty to Indian Classical. However, I wish you knew truly good music when you hear it. Good music is possible in all genres, and Third Eye of the Monsoon (original title) was one of the first and best fusion attempts in India, and I say is far better then everything done since. This is the band that launched Zakir Hussain. You may have heard of him. What they produced is above and beyond boundaries and realms. True Music

  • what band launched zakir? ZAKIR LAUNCHED ZAKIR, with help from MICKEY HART OF THE GREAT FUL DEAD in usa.. ALSO ZAKIR had The DIGA RYTHYM BAND w/ MICKEY HART,and SHAKTI in the early 70's. With steve Mcglauphin. this band DID NOT LAUNCH ZAKIRS CARRER! THAT"S ABSURD!>

  • I have been a musician for two decades, and I have learned that music crosses cultures, much like an interfaith or interracial marriage whether people condone it or not. I adore Sheila and the music she and her band makes. By the by, this recording is over ten years old, and perhaps you may like to hear that her more recent work has been what you may consider to be an 'appropriate' representation of Indian classical music. As the babaji has said 'only God is perfect'. All the best, MeenaKen...

  • Over ten years? Christ, it's from the early eighties. Try recycling your information

  • Early eighties....That falls into the category of 'over ten years'. It appears you did not get the tenor of my comment: simply to inform a previous comment of the fact that although Monsoon (and Sheila Chandra) made some music that may be considered relatively inappropriate by strict interpretation of the Indian classical form, music itself is quite popular due in large part to its ability to do exactly that: fuse styles that may be somewhat counterintuitive. Was that unclear?

  • can you please name some classical indian artists for me to check out? i know L. Shankar, he's an outstanding violinist, but that's all i know.

P.S. btw but don't you like the song anyway?

  • Vilayat Khan - Sitar, Nikhil Banerjee - Sitar, Amjad Ali Khan - Sarod, Zakir Hussain - Tabla, Tari Khan - Tabla, Anindo Chaterjee - Tabla, Swapan Choudari - tabla, These are just a MINIMAL few but if you search these names on Youtube it will lead you to a Universe of Some great Indian Classical Music - North Indian that is for Carnatic that is another world and just search for that or L, Shankar's name will take you there and link on. Good Luck & enjoy

  • for MeenaKen.. Sheila Chandra has worked in a huge diverse range of music genres, including traditional. I admire her range and experimentation, personally.

  • Yes its funny how most Classical musicians turned their noses up at Fusion when this was made in 1982 but now theyr'e all at it ! Apart from the Beatles in the 60's we were the first and in Jazz Fusion Shakti in the 70's who included Zakir Hussain. If you check out the original 12" of this on Youtube you'll find that between 3' !2" & 5' 04" it is pure Classical with a wonderful Sitar solo & accompaniment on Tabla , Jaw Harp & Chinese Gong & Drum Machine, & much better than the Computer stuffnow

  • This record completely changed my music tastes from Disco & commercial songs to new wave and alternative music ranging from U2, Simple Minds, Ultravox, Big Country etc.

  • simply heart rendering beautiful

  • from coventry ,near me classic track

  • Brilliant, and I only found out today that Sheila Chandra has the same birthday and year as myself :-)

  • hides his 12" recording .... fantastic song , far better than Jakatta's cheap remix.

  • hiding your 12 inch single is just mean.

Anyone can hear the original 1982 12 inch version on my channel.

  • love this version too. awesome music

  • Beautiful...just beautiful.

I am near tears remembering just how sweet this song was (and stil is).

  • Finally found it, been searching for this number for a while.

I had bought this single when it came out in holland. It was never a really big hit in my country. But I love the song.

  • wow I wished there are clubs like that I can go to!

  • A record I knicked from youth club.

    It has aged remarkedly well.

  • hope u didnt get a asbo but hay its record not a cd lol gd man

  • Is that a dulcimer? What is he playing? Thanks

  • it's called a sitar. standard fare in classical (and in this case, modern) indian music. it will typically be accompanied by a pair of drums called the tabla and a singer.

  • I played the 45 rpm single to death (regrettably long lost this old technology). Thanks a lot for posting it.

  • Search YouTube for Language In Disorder

  • Hypnotic song and hypnotic woman.

  • The first song I ever downloaded

  • Her beauty is haunting

  • This was one of the first songs that depicted and showcased modern british asian singers; in the genre of modern british pop music.

The lyrics stuck a real concience with the British public; because at that time, the regime of female asian teenagers was very stict ,in relation to society and home family life.

  • yeah.. u r right...I remember her popularity on these days in Pakistan too.. she was the first indian/paki girl in British Top 10..

  • Isn't Sheila beautiful? always loved her always will. How Cool x

  • sheila rocks

  • I bought this single when it came out, back in the day...

  • And maybe Tin Tin Duffy

  • "Language in Disorder" - "Ripchords"

  • Eye opening? Between this and the RipChords

  • As promised. The great RipChords are posted (circa Sheila)

  • Dont care. I was in university in 1983.

  • Maybe as India begins to come onto the world stage there will be more music like this that will hopefully reach a the mainstream if not a wider audience. This is music is such an eye-opening experience that we need to have more of it to counteract the silly trash being played on the airwaves today. Sheila Chandra/Monsoon rocks!!!!

  • Delisle4.....Have you listened to Dave Pike - Mathar. He was a Jazz Vibe player but cut a seriously good Sitar track. Its on YouTube

  • All of Sheila Chandra's post-Monsoon work is fascinating and well worth hearing. She is a great talent, and Monsoon really were revolutionary at the time. Despite the fact that the core musicians (Steve Coe and Martin Smith) were white, "Third Eye" featured a number of Indian guest musicians, and brought the sitar and tabla to a generation of western music fans.

  • It was Clem Alford - sitar & Jhalib Millar -tabla/perc (both White) who were the core musicians on this track

  • @lodger111 It was 2 white guys who were at the core of this song on Sitar & Tabla and that was Clem Alford & Jhalib Millar

  • Such a mystical treasure, i love hiw the early 80's in particular really embrassed culture in modern pop music. Arabian and Japanese culture were so prominent in music mixed with fashion and creative spirit and idea's. Now it's manufacture, plastic and dull.

  • Hi Nouveauxdecadence,

I totally agree with you on this one. There was so much mixture and exploration in the early to mid-80s in the music industry. England was especially a hotbed of new and experimental music. Music today is so one sided.

  • the pheonix can only fly when it has grown its wings.

  • How can she stand so still while singing/hearing this song! It makes me start dancing, I can't help myelf. (I know, it's a cultural thing ...)

  • what a tune !!! i was 13 when this come out i remeber i loved it but never had the cash to buy it. i was in a indie record shop and found the album in 1990 "the third eye" without hesitation i bought it along with a spaceman 3 album ....mmmm i still play the third eye as i burned it to cd the kids love it when i play it on the road ....its ageless

  • it still stands the test of time.

  • GREAT SONG AND BEAUTY GIRL YEAH !!!

  • I love how she appears timeless in her cultural gown while we can clearly tell how old it is only by the western clothes in the audience. Makes me thinl that we really do need some sort of cultural identity through dress sense

  • this song still gives me chills! :)

  • Great hearing this song again after almost 25years!!(hard to believe that this is an early 80's record). Also checked out Sheila Chandras' web site. Wow! what a woman, I had no idea she had been such a prolific music maker all these long years, and with more absolute control over her work than Madonna!

    Go girl!

  • 'she's currently been touring with the imagined village' - an album of traditional british folk music but reinterpreted ina contemporay style. went to see it not expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised.

  • I just saw Sheila a few months ago, singing at - get this - a Yoga convention in downtown Los Angeles at the LA Convention Center. Probably the most surreal venue/surroundings for hearing the voice of an Angel from 5 feet away, front and center. And all of it acapella, too. Amazing. "Third Eye" is definitely one of the greatest albums ever.

  • i can't believe it ! this is one of my favourite song during the 80s, but i didn't know the title, hardly not the name of the singer . i recorded it from tv on my tape recorder (!) when i was 15 and still listened to it after more than 20 years !! But i forgot how gorgeous the lady was !!! THANK YOU A BILLION TIMES CURVEHN FOR POSTING !!!!!!!!

  • she is so beautiful! A Goddess.

  • Sink into your eyes.... your eyes.... are all I see, your love is an Ocean.

  • i love it

  • My all time favorite album. I saw Sheila do this song on her acoustic tour with Peter Gabriel's Real World tour in Golden Gate Park on a warm San Francisco summer day. She combined it with Tomorrow Never Knows. I cried. She signed my CD, To Michael with the Mediterainiene Blue Eyes. Yes she made a type-o. Miss her dearly.

  • She's still around , making "songs" but not hits. This was a combination of a catchy hook with some Good musicians around her for this song. This is like classical Indian music compared to today's fusions. No computers then !

  • It´s so amazing to se this OLD TV Stuff, it´s All time fashioned.

    Shukrea xxx

  • In Canada

  • Excuse me. I was listening to Sheila in university campus radio in the 80's. Monsoon was #1 for 6 weeks.

  • the song is on itunes, the band is monsoon featuring sheila chandra

  • Pity is doesn't seem to be available anywhere legitimately online, as a download. Sure it would sell plenty, great song.

  • For those of you who are just seeing this. This video is off and on here for years.

  • this was a university staple in the 80's

  • This keeps getting posted and deleted every few months. Is it copyrighted or not.

  • I think this song was in many ways ahead of its time.

  • i totally agree with you, in fact, that0s why i think this is a masterpiece, because 25 years later this sounds fresher than ever.Sheila's voice is marvelous and the music too.

  • Yep. It's become a bit of a cliche now, but I remember thinking as a kid at the time how great the combination of Indian music/dance beats was. You're right about her voice too.

  • she singing it to fast and eigther the music is to fast

  • She started as a child t.v star on 'Grange Hill' in the 80's and if I remember correctly caused a mini-stir by appearing on Top of The Pops in a white sari :D

  • Lovely song, Lovely girl !

  • wasnt the womans voice that of ofra haza?

  • No, it's Sheila Chandra. But i can see and hear where the confusion comes from.

  • Haha The Guy on the sitar (at 0:34) is my dad :D how cool is that!

  • Its a shame your dad could't play the Sitar and a white man called Clem Alford is ACTUALLY playing it. Dad's a good mimer though!!

  • Where you born a fuckwit, or did u acquire that over time? -- yes that is a serious question. Hate to state the obvious here but my dad can play the sitar and yes hate to state the obvious AGAIN but perhaps I might know coz I live him, shocked? Don't Be. Why you seem to pull ludicrous ideas out of your rectum is beyond me. You should make a self note, that saying factless things isnt going to make a difference.. ta ta

  • Oh dear you seem upset but as i remember "dad" could't play then and would be the first to admit it, Dari knows that and honourably left the band after we made him some dosh. The truth is the truth i'm afraid even if it hurts ! Mind you youv'e shown your true colours - how cool is that ?

  • Shown my true colours? my true colours are always on show. Upset? y should i be - doesnt concern me. It interested me (note the past tense). You act as if you know what happend Il let you keep that fantasy as you Clearly have nothing better to do. By ta ta i meant dont reply i obviosuly didnt make that clear tho. Truth hurts? blah blah. And now seriosly get on a do something better with your time like sort ur pension or someshit (underlying message meaning Leave me alone and stop replying) ;)

  • You can talk all you like but at the end of the day that is your "dad" sitting there but he is not playing on that record This absolute fact and your dad can verify that, thats all i wanted to say and so that the correct player gets the credit as its damned fine playing. Its not about aggression lad its about fact. I do know what happened !!!

  • ooooh trodden on a nerve there have i.. no need for 3x exlamations to stress your point, i dont care anyway. and mate i dont have a dick there for im not a "Lad" ;) besides u prob cant tell ur teen taal from your jhap taal from your rupak from your adhi. anyway back to my vbery first question? are u a fuckwit? what dont u understand about DONT REPLY.. Need a dictionary for each word?

  • Fine i apologise for my comments and take them back its just for all my life all ive ever heard is my dad playing that damn sitar...

  • Kixkaur its very big of you to apologise & for that you should be commended. No harm done sticks & stones & all that. Dari as i remember is a nice guy with a great sense of humour & I sincerely wish you well. it was fun while it lasted.

  • No i was seriously whack out of line, i really am sorry. and about those tabla comments i had no idea what i was on about..

  • its bloody amazing.i can,t believe i,m seeing this again and other people remember it as well.

  • one of the first songs we started drinking along to

  • I just love this song - I was young and in love, just brings it all back! The flip side was about the Gangees, do you have that?

  • whoooeee...thanks mon, u dug up a real gem there, dat wayyyy back, musta be da mothah of all banghra beats ;)

  • glad i am not going nuts.can,t believe i,m hearing this again after 25 years

  • Takes me back, thanks!

  • bliss - i STILL love this one.

  • One of the better Indo fusions

  • I remember this song, it was amazing, love it, thanks for posting, it brings me back to my youth.
