Judo rules must have changed since I was in it. The trows this guy does are good, but he allows himself to roll over the Uke after the throw which would put him in a bad spot to have his Uke get him in to a submission hold. When I was in Judo, you won a match if you threw your opponent and then got them locked in submission!
@reginaninja what happened is judo has become an olympic "sport". not much emphasis on actual self defense unfortunately. they only concentrate on scoring points. its a shame because alot of the grappling, submissions and chokes are being neglected in favor of throws.
most of these judo throws put him in a bad position.....a real fight and the master would've been put in a armbar, gave up side control and seriously injured.
But at least he found a sly way to throw someone down.
There's quite a lot of racism between the two countries, so it made me laugh - "beating the Japanese" - as if beating those Jap bastards is a matter of life and death. Just funny, I thought.
Jay is a upright fighter he's always had a hard time defending the drop knee throws.
Jay has beaten that guy before and actually had a bit of a rivalry. Jay went to play him in the korean open and beat him then Jeon passed on the US open and then owned him in the olympics lol..
Watch and learn, BJJ guys all do a variation of judo so I think you BJJ guys need to watch Rickson Gracie, I think he has matured to become a master at MMA and he still uses basic judo moves adapted to his way of course called BJJ, so rather than talking about the club any judoka worthy of his grade or any MMA fighter should attend a Gracie Academy and have a go, the guys will welcome you, but make sure you have no injuries and you are 100% fit, I had been warned and I have 32 years of fights.
ive seen a lot of judo vs bjj matches--judo is winning 60/40 in judo competition, and judo is winning about 10% of the bjj matches. bjj is just judo with less restriction on technique.
bjj also dominates judo in mma, with the exception of a few standouts who learned bjj in order to use it or defend against it.
restricting your range of learning to just one art because of a bad attitude will get you nowhere.
fedor . i think this beats all of the BJJ guy(fedor has competed in judo. furthermore, during the interview he said that judo was the most useful martial art to him)
Yoshihiro akiyma. he is a very solid judoka. During his fight with alan belcher, he took him down twice using judo techniques. that is when he was half naked.
heligo gracie vs kimura. kimura has submitted and broke helio's shoulder.
@jinzzaandae fedor wouldnt have a hope in a straigth grappling tournament like adcc, his strength is combining all ranges in mma.Helio was never even close to the standard of kimura and had no chance .Yoshida never choked royce out ,it was refs mistake. That said,I wouldnt expect royce to beat any elite grappler outside mma.He was never considered a great grappler ,never won anything in brazil.
The Gracies dominated on the ground and they also got smoked by the judo guys during the stand up portion of the grappling at the Judo schools.
BJ Penn was already an experienced wrestler and his BJJ was at a level better than your average purple belt in that fight video. So he was already a very experienced grappler with phenomenal athletic ability who entered a local tournament and fought some mediorce black belts - so what?
gsp (Karate/bjj) dominated Karo Parisyan (Judo). He also lost to Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez, both who study bjj. BJJ is the most effective grappling, to me, in the world. Look at how Royce Gracie fought much larger men and PWNED them.

BJJ is a modified version of judo. In most minds, modified meaning good change. If you look at a Judo kimura and a BJJ kimura, the Judo technique looks like it requires brute force whereas the BJJ technique is smooth.
@RudyfulDeBeautiful ur an idiot karo got knocked out by thiago not grappling and pretty much dominated diego grappling and also out grappled gsp almost securing a kimura so dumb
The Koreans are really coming on strong. They have been for a long time. Choi is unreal! But remember, we are not like the BJJ guys, we have to be very respectful. We dont bag on other Judoka. Good Judo is good judo, no matter who it is.
i think hes more or less referring to those assholes who learn how to armbar at your local douche powered mma school and go around thinking theyre the shit..

Drop knee seoi nage is bad for you. Jeon retired at age of 25 due to injury on both knees. Get koga or inoue dvds instead, they are excellent.

Honestly, the rivalry between Judo and bjj player is just silly. The two are as similar as greco roman and freestyle wrestling.

@JohnColt i think it was more because the japanese are superior in judo so like beating them is a big deal, not so much about the racism or rivalry

name the judo guys in mma
now name the bjj guys
watch bj penn smoke a black belt in judo when he was 16
watch royce gracie smoke a black belt in judo
watch videos of the gracies when they visited judo schools
watch any "gracie vs" videos for that matter
check all the brazilians that use bjj techs in their judo matches, like flavio canto
just go to "judo vs bjj" in youtube and watch the vids
Im first and foremost a judoka, but i dont let some stupid pride prevent me from expanding my techs.

dat vid of bj penn wasnt in a judo competition...
coz the judo guy clearly ippon bj and the match kept going on... :P:P

BJJ is arguably the most strength efficient grappling technique there is.
and as for never fighting Bas, Bas never grappled with Dan Gable.
As for Fedor's Judo, it is good, not great. Ishii would have his way with Fedor.
