Parrots are not like other birds, and bond insanely well with people, better than dogs or cats. As a con they demand ridiculous amounts of attention. cockatoos are at the top for human/parrot bonds.. and no almost all parrots come from breeders so they weren't ever even in the wild....

It's funny because my parrot LOVES the sound of children... as soon as she hears a childs voice she perks right up and talks up a storm... parrots actually talk and whistle as a way of getting someones attention... weather it be good or bad attention... because they are smart enough to know if they make enough noise you will either walk into the room to talk back to them or yell from the other room for them to be quiet..lol..this parrot is a def. tweaker Q@Q

Birds aren't too difficult to look after I had 2 parrots but one of them was too hyper and crazy so I had to return it. But the other one was so cute and nice. I taught him to speak and he learned it so fast! I never closed his cage and if he felt hungry so used to go in cage and eat it. He never make me feel like it's a big responsibility to keep birds. But I moved so I had to give him away :(

Cockatoo's (Umbrellas an Moluccans especially) are a very emotional bird and do require alot of attention - they are not for everyone . Every animal is rewarding , but remember , they are only as rewarding as their owners . You are seeing the "cute" side here - I love my U2's , they are rescues as well , but they can be very loud and destructive -

I always wanted a parrot but thought I'd never get one, but like a week ago my mom got a call from her friend. She has a neighbor who's a horder and about in her 90's. She was going to a nursing home and couldn't take care of her senegal parrot. So she gave him to us. He doesn't know any words and might not ever because of his age. It would be nice if he could say some words some day, but all I really want is to be able to get him to come on my finger some day. He's still very shy.
