It is considerably slower than Terragen Classic, but also considerably more powerful - and in most cases more realistic than Classic. You can wait several hours - sometimes over 12 - to get your result. But it is usually worth the time, if you do your stuff right.
@KseniyaRuss That's too bad. Maybe if you actually go into Terragen you'll get the hang of it. It's a pretty simple program if you don't want to do too complicated things.
@thepivotmaster36 - maybe, but TerraGen also supports the Mac. (Granted, I do 3D rendering exclusively on a dedicated Windows box, but I use Macs and some Mac users will prefer having native OS X support.)
@meatpuppet76 Yeah, they're free. Check out Planetside's home page and head over to the Terragen 2 download page. You should find something useful there, I hope.
@Liight2 Thanks for pointing that out. Shaders is a more advanced part of Terragen for which most beginners do not need to know to get started with Terragen 2.
@jahnu13 Oh, any way you can teach me how to use it? I think I figured it out for the most part but i'm just basically guessing. Teamviewer or something maybe?
@MrMcVilla If you have a slow computer it would not be surprising for the scene to render at 3 hours, and if you render at high detail or anti-aliasing or just put a lot of stuff in your scene 3 hours would not be unusual.. My computer is one slow piece of equipment so it takes me around 3 hours or more to render a landscape scene (inside the atmosphere). Also Terragen 2 isn't a fast renderer.
@jahnu13 This program looks awesome, just what im looking for. What spec is your computer? I just ordered a new laptop, and i'm hoping it will be powerful enough to run this at least fairly smoothly.
@TheAnimargus My computer is nothing fast. There isn't many people who would buy a computer as slow as mine (1.1 GHz, 504 mb of RAM and single-core). I'm sure your computer will run Terragen 2 fine.
@jahnu13 Alright, thanks, that's similar spec to the one i'm currently using actually. Iv'e been using this computer to make music, and until now it's been fine. I have respect for people who make the most of of the computer they have, rather than being suckered into thinking they need to splash out on a power house.
is rendering slow as in terragen classic?

@jahnu13 On day one i figured out how to make snow using shaders. Yes it is advanced, but it should be a bit more important with the basics.

@AroreForLife Yes, there is a lot in Terragen 2 Basics I didn't cover here.

@jahnu13 my picture is not rendering. plz help.
MrMcVilla 11 months ago
@MrMcVilla Do you mean that if you press "Render Image" it doesn't start rendering? Does it give a error? What steps do you take?
Sorry for all the questions :)
jahnu13 11 months ago
@jahnu13 sry about that it just took extremely long to render (3hrs). how long does it usually take you to render an image like that?
