The Fat one is very slick and shiny! I have the fat ones and at least it still maintains its PS logo! :-) The fat ones seem a lot more quieter, but when it gets a bit hot in the inside, the fat ones will initiate a boost in the fan and ventilation to cool itself off! Pretty Cool!

I just bought the 320GB PS3 slim and Uncharted 3 came with it. When Its off it has the red light I know thats supposed to be there. But when I turn it on all I get is a green light to know that its on. I don't have the blue light and my buttons don't light up. I don't know if thats a deffect or something but if you know how I can turn those lights on I would like to know. Thanks!

No lie. I do miss my 80 gig, the fan just started to sound like a jet engine even though I kept in a well ventilated area, clean it as instructed in the manual. Sony said they would fix it for about 129, but I ended up getting the 160. It all good. Hopefully these systems will stay around a few more years to get full enjoyment outta them.

The Xbox 360 Disc drive spins a lot faster than the PS3. Xbox 360 would be at about the same noise level if the two were spinning at the same speeds.

Anyway, it seems that your Slim makes way more noise than mine, no doubt. Especially after 5 mins. Yours sounds like it has this slightly high pitched hum, which mine never gets. Mine is 1 year old and i vacuum the vents once a month. I also play it every day, at least 8 hours a day while I work (GT5 b-spec :))

@salriggione The sound of the disc insertion is normal. It just sounds plain horrible. From what most people are saying, laying your PS3 flat is the best way because of the airflow, apparently. Though, standing up your PS3 vertically won't decrease the system's life span by much at all. I don't think that has even been proven yet.

@Dutchley form what i know in terms of physics, hot air rises, cool air sinks . so laying it flat will actually be better as it wont heat up the console that much when the hot air escapes unlike standing it.

I realize when you have a disk inside, the ps3 gets louder, and more hotter. I suggest you keep a disk out of it if you're not playing it. What they should do is have all games in files, instead of discs, it'll make things much better. I had a PS3 Fat, 80GB, and it lasted three years. I played it like 18/7 in the last eight months, and other than that, at least 4HRs each day, no joke.

@benjygar97 The Fat one. I used to have a 40Gb PS3 and it was just as quiet as the one in this video. The Slim definetly has a higher pitch/wine when left on for a while. Luckily the noise doesn't seem to escalate much past the noise in the video, so it is far from annoying :)

Plus if the noise were to get annoying, i'd just turn up the volume. Problem solved.

A fat ps3 can last to about 4 to 5 years before it start giving u problems, rather u clean it or waste about $150 to repair it, It won't matter because that would only garunteed the fix for about 8months before it starts giving u the same problem.

i would stick with fat until mine broke....(ylod) but the only reason why my fat ps3 broke is i live in Portugal and when i opened it up it had dust covering up the air intakes.... basically if you have a fat that's warranty has expired open it up and clean the inside!!! getting a 320gb slim soon :)
