HOW SAD Was it to know the Pats so called "Dynasty" never happend or wouldnt of happend if 9/11 never occured...SAD, Very very sad but true..to the fullest.
i think it's best said but this show was amazing because as AWESOME as U2 did, it felt like the crowd was really cheering for America and not really them, capturing that is just amazing.
It's a shame that it took a national tragedy to make us all love each other. Now we're all back to being bitchy, fighting over who had the best superbowl show and cursing each other out.
Amazingly poetic! Appropriate and exactly the right artist to perform the right songs at such a sensitive time in America. Between songs Bono quotes from Psalms 51: 14-15..."Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise." Class act all the way! And the whole performance was aired without any apologies needed the next day! Imagine that.
It's amazing to see something so inspired on one of the greatest stages as opposed to something so insipid as flipping off a camera. God Bless! (or if you don't believe in God, then may you be happy!)
U2 and Madonna are very different styles of music and performance styles. Both superbowl performances were great for different reasons each. There is no reason to hate one over the other. I like both for different reasons.
perhaps, next year, in new orleans they shall, the location of the even t of destruction, which sparked an era of a rebirth of the soul of this country. NOLA.
The best halftime performance ever in the history of the Super Bowl or any other game. Post 9-11...I tear up to this day when I watch this...the emotion was raw and real. U2 were the perfect fit for this moment. When I see people calling Madonna the best show ever? She lip synced the entire thing and it was the same crap she has been doing for 30 years. All ego. U2 is all heart.
I love the U.S.A.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would not live anywhere else but here!!! May God bless my grandparents from Spain who decided to come to this great country!!!!! Go USA
I can’t think of anyone I would rather perform at the super bowl right after 9/11. I wasn’t old enough to really care about U2, but I’ve watched this show online, and It brings tears to my eyes. Its a truly sobering halftime show that could go down as the greatest in Super Bowl history. Some people say why not have an American band do the first show after 9/11, but U2 is what America needed at the time in my honest opinion
See, a performance like this, it proves that the halftime show performance doesn't need over-the-top theatrics or excessive sex appeal - all it needs is genuine, raw emotion.
10 years ago tomorrow, seems like just yesterday. One of the greatest Super Bowls with the best halftime show. Wish we could go back in time to that day.
Best halftime show ever!!! On a sidenote, imagine how disappointed the people must have been who were sitting behind the banner with ascending names of the 9/11 victims...no U2 for them.
At 7:40, whoever attempted to hit Bono by throwing a glow stick at him must be a born-to-be-dumbass-dou*hebag. GOSH Why are some people so brainless???????
I have been a U2 fan for over 30 years....and this, quite frankly, is just another example, oddly enough, of when you put the ball in the hands of capable players, you quite often come up with something quite spectacular....U2 rarely disappoints.
Now this is how it's done. Sometimes ya gotta wonder what they're thinking with some (actually a lot) of the people they've put on stage at the Super Bowl. In fact they get it wrong way more than they get it right don't they?
ill never forget 9/11 and where I was when it happened. Sad day for US americans but those muslims didn't ruin us we came together as one to help bring down those motherfuckers and look where they are now?!?! fucking dead!!
@Oscarleal44 They should. I'm not even a U2 fan but this you can actually appreciate, you can respect them- it's really hard to respect so many of the other performers they've had.
@Oscarleal44 I love to see that people still watch this. U2 will be alongside Queen and AC/DC in terms of popularity one day, and I will be a U2 hipster who liked it since the start.
I was tending bar at a packed pub during this Super Bowl halftime show, and I'll never forget it. When Bono opened his jacked to reveal the Stars and Stripes inside, the bar went insane, tears in the eyes of every patron and worker. It was a real moment. Thank you, U2. This halftime show will never be topped.
Holy crap. I've been U2fan since I was 5, but I never knew that they played on half time in 2002. Man I wished I was in US at the time( I was in Japan). Beautiful day makes me emotional every time. I hate what music they play these days. Did you know the song from U2 was the first song ever listened out of space?(of course in ISS)
There is no band in the world that could have pulled off a halftime show like this. It was the perfect band playing the perfect songs at the just the right time in our country's history. When Bono opens his jacket at the end to reveal the American flag gets me every time. You can almost feel the healing. Having seen them live many times I can say with certainty that there is no band that can connect with its audience quite like U2 does.
@ggsky99: I'll see your U2 and raise you Bruce Springsteen, but it probably evens out. Those were clearly the two best halftime shows we'll probably ever see.
This will forever be the greatest Superbowl Halftime show, not just because of the music...but because Bono was able to do something truly magical and make this moment transcend the music...and the game...and become something more. This was not just a Superbowl Halftime show, this was a moment of healing for tens of millions of Americans...and that is why it will forever stand alone.
A lot of superbowl halftime shows have been good. Paul Mccartney, MJ, The Rolling Stones, Prince, etc. But this, to me, is the only Superbowl halftime show that was truly GREAT.
I was living in the states during and after 9/11. I don't think I've ever gotten so emotional during a Superbowl halftime show. Though I still think an American band (Springsteen, Van Halen come to mind) really should have played the first post 9/11 superbowl, U2 really drove it home.
Before I saw this on TV, boy bands were all the rage and I wanted to be in a boy band.
After I saw this I realized how stupid I was and gave my head a good shake. U2 reminded me that music can be bigger than just a collection of rhythm and melody.
If I recall this was the period in which U2 was 're-applying to be the worlds greatest band"
If it wasn't before Superbowl XXXVI was when that application was accepted. U2 has always been a great live band but something about their earnestness and energy just energized not only those there in the stadium but the millions across the world that were watching. @joelnichole Yeah, they could have planned that better. They should have taken down the lights on it, blacked it out, and then let it fall as invisibly as possible, but this looks...wrong!
Still, a great tribute! Thanks to iagoil for posting this! Peace!
Good halftime show and performance. The game itself? There wasn't, and never will be, another outcome that is as obviously predetermined as Patriots/Rams. It had nothing to do with the videotaping of practice, but instead was entirely to have the red/white/blue colored team win.
How do people forget Paul McCartney's half time show. I thought that was one of the best ones.

this was huge. exactly right for the moment. paul mccartney was tired, michael jackson was overrated, springsteen was, as usual, the best.

Good halftime show and performance. The game itself? There wasn't, and never will be, another outcome that is as obviously predetermined as Patriots/Rams. It had nothing to do with the videotaping of practice, but instead was entirely to have the red/white/blue colored team win.
