You can walk around, explore the world, meet others of your species and form herds or packs. You have to learn what a dinosaur would have known in order to survive, explore various possible behaviors and try them for yourself.
There are no online demos because the simulation runs on custom hardware and will not run on standard PCs.
You are absolutely right about there being no grasses in the northern ecosystems of the time - however what you see in the simulation are not grasses but rushes. Rushes and ferns made up a majority of the ground cover of the time and are paleontologically correct. Thanks!
There is currently no demo, Be the Dinosaur can ONLY be experienced at a host museum or other institution. Check with your local Science Center or Natural History museum and see if they plan to host the "Be the Dinosaur" traveling exhibit - or if they plan to install "Be the Dinosaur" simulator pods as permanent additions to their collections. It is the kind of thing you can come back to again and again and discover new things each time.

It is not a game, it is a simulation using high-end videogame technology that can only be played in the "Be the Dinosaur" museum exhibit.
Contact your local museum and see when and if they plan on hosting "Be the Dinosaur".
