  • Evie does a very fine job on this tune but I gotta agree with others who also like the Liverpool Five's version.

  • Happy Birthday Evie!

  • @geomck, thanks for the info. Now, I have to

    find it. Once again, thanks.

  • Did Evie record this song in the '60s? Is it on one of her albums? Thanks, anyone.

  • @aimeemannfan2010 It's on the album of the same name, which was re-released in the UK on Revola a few years back.

  • Evie rocks! Love her version. What a shame she didn't get the recognition she deserves.

  • Thanks so much for this. Evie is a treasure.

  • why was she never famous with her talent?

  • @stubbyguy

Sadly, the system failed Evie. She recorded some great stuff for companies that went under, leaving her always trying to catch up.

  • Underappreciated tune and artist. I came over here from the Liverpool Five's version and agree with others who like both versions.

  • Listening to the chorus you can tell it's by Chip Taylor as it's the same thing as "Wild Thing" and the middle section sounds like the Righteous Bros. too. Evie Sands certainly deserves more than what fates dealt her.

  • Hey Harvey 1954......the arrangement of this tune by the Liverpool Five shows more influence of the Righteous Bros....blue eyed soul ....also on Y. Tube.

  • I like this version but also have checked out the others on You Tube by the Troggs, Spiritualized and the Liverpool Five. The Troggs is uninspiring , whereas the versions by Spiritualized and the LP5 are great.

  • I prefer this take and that by the Liverpool Five the best .

  • I have to agree...especially the one by the LP5

  • I have Evie's record and it's a fine version. But I also found the Liverpool Five's 45rpm and "Out of Sight" Album with it on and their version is a KNOCKOUT.

  • Forget about the Troggs version ,and even Evie's as offered here.. The song was first offered by Chip Taylor to the Liverpool Five in early 1966. That group recorded it as a very soulful song and you should listen to it on "Nuggets from the Liverpool Five" ( Part 2) , also ony You Tube. However, I do agree that Evie's vinyl record sounds better than this offering

  • For the detractors, I certainly wouldn't judge Evie's version of this song from this poorly recorded live clip. Check out her original single and her other work. She's one of the greatest voices to come out of the 60s.

  • Evie Sands' original version of this is quite superb. I bought it way back then in the 60's and it ranks for me as one of the top singles ever! Great to see this.

  • Also: BTW, if you've ever read some of Chip Taylor's interviews... he wrote the added middle section in this version for Evie -- and he co-produced it, as well. Says he loves this record and is very proud of it.

  • You're entitled to your opinion, absolutely. However, you keep saying the same thing OVER and OVER again! We get it: you think The Troggs' version is heaven on earth. Other people disagree. Some like both versions. Some like Evie's better. Some think Evie's one of the best singers ever! We're entitled to our opinion, too; and you continuing to slam this record (and Evie Sands as an artist) won't change anything. I'm not trying to change your opinion either - but ENOUGH already!

  • Evie is indeed amazing, and should have been given MUCH more credit for her talent than she has. She is a prime example of the way that the industry lets so many artists down.

She is one of so many who slip through the cracks everyday.

Evie, SOME of us REALLY get it.. and I invite folks to read up on your story. You deserved so much more.

  • Reg Presley sings this song much much better than this girl. There's much more feelings in the TROGGS version, I am a Troggs fan.

And I have played guitar for over 30 years, so I know what I am talking about.

  • Because you play guitar does not mean you are an expert on singing. Les Paul did not sing....he had his wife, Mary Ford, sing with him. Your statement is pointless.

  • I just looked up the Troggs version of this song, and listened to it. You can't seriously think Reg Presley sings as well as this woman, can you? I just discovered Evie Sands today while browsing thru YouTube clips. She's aweswome - a truly underated talent. Check out her performance on the Johnny Cash Show. I suspect she also plays the guitar better than the Troggs lead guitarist.

  • Do you have the original 45 like I do? If you do you could never say the Troggs version is better.

  • I once met 'Little' Evie, around 1969, when she came into the Free Press bookstore in LA where I was clerking. Having long had a crush on her, I spotted her and we had a long chat. I was able to tell her how much I admired her. She seemed a little down - she felt washed-up, forgotten and ripped-off, I recall. But was she beautiful! And a great singer! So glad to see she's still with us!

  • jimreigle you met evie around 1969 and you said she felt washed up back then??

  • nice song !!! there is a version from spiritualized too ..

  • Holy Moly

    This is the Sh!T!

    --Evie is something else--

I hope you all have her WOMEN IN PRISON CD

    it's fantastic!

  • Thanks a lot for posting! Evie Sands is AWESOME.

  • Do you have any other songs from this show??

  • Thanks for posting
