I for one like Nuclear power. It's clean, safe and, easily renewable. Most of the fear that people have about this form of power comes from Science Fiction story's and Hollywood. Nobody is going to grow extra eye's or glow in the dark. If we were to build 20 new of these plants in the US we would have cheap clean and safe power for the next 100-200 years. On top of that the new plants would be safer then the old one's we have now.
Everybody would love free health care from the government. Eventually, one day the government can deny you treatment for your health problems by branding you are a dissenter, terrorist or what ever, and by that time, you couldn't pay for it yourself because it's too expensive. It's not wise to let the government have too much say in your life man.
I am a HUGE Ron Paul fan but I completely disagree with him on the health care issue. I live in Canada and while the system isn't without it flaws, it's still miles (or is it kilometers?) better than the US system. Sure, the waiting times can be long, but it's hard to complain when it's free.
I think one of the issues with central planning is where you draw the line. If you let govt run some services, they will eventually expand their tentacles into other services. One of the other problems is that everybody compares American healthcare to Canada, Scandinavia, Australia etc. This is basically a bad comparison, as the American system is just as interventionist as socialised healthcare countries. If we were comparing to the free market, the argument would be meritorious.
With a government debt at 9.3 Trillion Dollars, growing 1.6 Billion dollars, every day?
How is that "free" health care? All the money you have drops in buying power every day because your government wastes money on empires around the world, troops in 150 countries and demolishing free market.
The problem with free market is not "evil corporations", it's the government giving these corporations monopoly and a bunch of advancements compared to small corporations.
Socialism isn't the answer it's a problem. Capitalism and the free market are designed to protect the average consumer. The problem is that whenever government it corrupts the free market. For example, look at your cell phone plan. Because of the free market companies have to compete and give better rates to get consumers. With socialism you get what they give you and that's it. There's no incentive to improve it. The problem with government is that it interferes with the free market.
Look at intellectual property rights. IP was created by the government as a way to protect small businesses from big businesses stealing their ideas and running with them. Government got involved. Now big business champions IP and uses it to sue any small competition out of business. They get patents on anything and everything and in the end big business benefited. It's better to leave the government out of anything society comes out better that way.
it can be VERY clean. all thats required is a cintrifical force turbine, to reacumulate the atoms degrading energy back into its mass. we dont utilize this method because its just so much easier to throw it into a lake and forget about it
no,its still too dangerous to use it anyway...nuclear plants are 2 vulnerable for a terrorist attack...besides,any itsy bitsy human error can cause a catastrophe like Chernobyl and the effects of it lasts for decades. We need to consider other options and maybe change some energy consumption habits.
ya know... youre right. chernobyl was horrible. if it were up to me we'd all use solar and magnetics. but im just one poor man looked down upon by many. good point. in a perfect world nuclear could be great, but we are FAR from perfect.
Thank You Ron Paul for speaking the truth it is so refreshing to hear a presedential canadite talk the truth.Did anyone notice how he never backtracks out of a question always answers the people honestly.
i think the only previous politition in your country that has ever spoken the real truth was JFK and look at what happened to him, im actually surprised R.P. is still alive if he ever dies soon question everything about because people have been killed trying to do what he is.
Yeah, and alot of people believe the government was behind his assassination. You can find the speech that everybody thinks got him killed. The people that speak the truth and go against big government are always left out.
the problem with politics is yes they see the same problem as we do but they are powerless to do so because they still need these corrupted lobbyists to pay for their reckless spending and they need their support to stay in power. So, i say justice is just a game for the riches. Stop dreaming about better lives
hell yeah this guy is exactly what america needs unfortunatly a bunch of bullshit and media are holding him back from getting the true recognition he deserves
He is right about the Oil. The goverment starts investing too much into one energy source and before you know it, its gone, then your left with a dead end; all these factories, cars, powerplants that ran on oil are no longer useful.
But if you let the market handle it, then new energy sources can mix, mingle and progress in, then you don't ever have to worry about running out.
We have energy being produced by the sun, gravity, wind, and even the Earths core... the market will take advantage.
haha. yeah. 47 million americans without health insurance is a "minor" problem. right. Hospitals literally throwing homeless people on the street to die is only a "minor" problem. having health care based on profits for the elite class is only a "minor" problem. someone needs to read the parable of the "Good Samaritan".
So while 47 million americans don't have health care and 1/2 of all bankrupsies are a direct result of unpaid medical expenses- ron paul has no health care plan and is just going to leave it up to the market? The market is the entire problem in the first place! So he is going to look 47 million americans in the eye and tell them he's going to do nothing to help their familes get health care?
Nope, the current problem is the government. Could we implement some programs to help the poor who could never afford it even at low prices, sure. But we need to stop subsidizing health care for the average person. The government offers huge tax breaks to separate you from your health purchases. Supply and Demand is destroyed. We punish those who are frugal health wise and reward those who goto the Emergency Room for ever little sniffle.
I think MindStalkr already addressed your concern well enough, but to put it in rather simple terms, Dr. Paul is looking at the bigger picture, the much bigger picture. If Paul were able to implement everything he has said so far, these minor problems would essentially work themselves out, like they should have been doing. If the United States were not in the the completely insane situation that it currently IS in, we wouldn't have to worry about health care.
Hey! Ron Paul supporters! Stop simply talking about Ron Paul and stop simply supporting him through internet comments. It is a well known fact that many people who support Ron Paul are young, and also that young people do not vote. If you support Ron Paul, get off your asses and GO VOTE FOR HIM! Stop bitching about wanting change, and hating our current leaders without taking action! Get off your lazy, fat asses and VOTE!
You vote for the guy you want to win, if you don't want the other to win, don't vote for them. Why should I vote for a guy I don't want in office? Many people say to me when I say I didnt vote the last two elections "You have no right to complain about Bush since you didn't take the choice to vote against him", I say to the that I didnt like either Kerry or Bush, so why the hell should I vote for either of them?
I LOVE RON PAUL... the only problem I have with him is on his Health Care plan. Germany's health care is not "a disaster". And they (we) have close to universal coverage. No one is under the delusion that it is free here (I am an American living in Germany as a citizen).
The market is the problem because its not functioning like a true free market. Thats why all hospitals charge you the absolute most possible. Prices skyrocket, where in a free market they should be going down. The government should get completely out of the way.
We are dependent on foreign oil because politicians have used scare tactics on nuclear power to legislate silly controls to prop themselves up as saviors. Once again, get the government out, free markets solve the problems that the government creates. Anyone that sells you fear, with a solution that restricts freedom, should be not be trusted, wether Republican Terror Freaks, or Democrat environmentalists.
His plan is Free Markets and Personal Responsibility - Americans are fat and uneducated. We have government education, and private farms (subsidized). Healthcare, farming, schools - get the government OUT, and Americans will be healthy and educated once they start taking care of themselves, instead of expecting someone else to take care of them.
he wants to privatize it (which is not much different from what it is now...look at Aetna, Medco, Empire, etc.) as far as the existing system, he did say in an earlier interview he doesnt want to leave people already dependent on the system out in the dust...so I am sure that he would slowly faze out the system for a more privatized health insurance coverage plan...
Ron Paul.. I love you.. but, Nuclear Energy?? come on!!... haven't you heard of nuclear waste? no way.. let's focus on a truly clean energy source like wind or solar.. there are no waste products!!
Wind and solar energy is great except, as technology exists now, it is very difficult to harness. And I could be mistaken, but there are some waste products involved in the manufacture of the batteries and other fuel cells involved in the production of these forms of energy. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have looked into alternate energy sources myself. Personally I'm all for ethanoling it up like Brazil.
Ethanol isn't a viable alternative for a number of reasons. First, industrialized agriculture practices use more petroleum to produce crops than it saves. Plus the demand for corn as a fuel means it competes with corn as food.
ok.. any waste involved in the creation of wind and solar energy PALES in comparison to the copious amounts of NUCLEAR TOXIC WASTE that the creation of nuclear power does...
I'm referring more to the actual output of energy you get. Wind and solar energies powering everything is a nice idea, but the amount of space it takes up and the relatively very little amount of power which actually is collected needs to be stored in batteries, which are also are extremely toxic.
Wind and solar still needs time to become the primary power source. Nuclear power can pick up the slack to phase out fossil fuels, which produce MORE toxic waste.
really? I had never heard that before. Nuclear energy is cleaner and more efficient than any other power source from what I understand, and disposing of the waste is not very costly or damaging to the environment if done properly.
Now, I don't know how much waste solar energy plants create, besides the oils and fluids needed for the turbines and other systems that they entail. But I suspect it is more per kilowatt hour outputted by a nuclear plant.
there are issues with it. competition keeps the price of energy down and makes the investment cost of nuclear plants unattractive to investors. plants have to be near populations i believe, something to do with loss of energy in transit. currently we have fission, but they are working on nuclear fusion in the south of france (a multi national effort) which may be interesting. personally i believe we will discover unravel something very simple to fuel humanity going forward.
Yeah, cable loss. Electricity dissipates the longer it has to travel through a conductor, unless it is a superconductor. I believe that cooled ceramic acts as a superconductor, but it would take energy to keep the ceramic cool, so that kind of defeats the purpose.
I believe that nuclear power is hindered more by people's paranoia over Chernobyl, which never had proper supervision or containment facilities.
agreed, although i watched a documentary indicating that the effects of radiation at Chernobyl were barely different to the normal effects of ambient radiation elsewhere in the world. It was stunning, they talked about how the first on site clean up operatives suffered lots of negative effects, but that rates of illness on the locals were not that excessive, you never know if it was influenced by nuclear interests but was an interesting documentary regardless
This pushes corn prices above that which people around the globe can afford to pay. Lastly, as we raise our demand for corn-ethanol, we can't meet the need domestically. So countries like Brazil support the destruction of hundreds of thousands of acres of rain forest to sell corn for ethanol.
I was under the impression we have an extensive supply of corn in the US, one of, if not the most abundant crop grown here, if I remember anything from my FFA classes. Plus, corn isn't a very nutritionally healthy food crop, it's primarily a filler, for instance in dog and cat foods, it does nothing more than act as a fattening agent. Of course I'm pretty certain I'm not explaining it well, and I've probably missed a few things but, I'm trying to learn more about the world in general.
Giaus Julius Caesar thought the Roman Republic would last 1000 years, it did last more than 500 years. The United states of America (is 250 years old) won't last another 30 years before it falls into the hands of a dictator. all things ,wither they are good or bad, must come to an end
Just picture George Bush in this situation and laugh. Clearly Ron Paul has many answers and will better this country more than anyone else. While no one candidate is perfect, Ron Paul certainly is the best candidate running. I hope everyone here will vote for him, share with their friends, and advertise for Ron Paul in any way possible.
i agree and i will vote for him....provided he ever gets nominated. theres a major rumor about all Rons support being genrated by spammers. we have got to STOP this! there are enough of us who support him that we can incite and empassion others to support him as well. by legitimate effective means. lets do it!!!
Furthermore, I don't think the US can retract from their political and humanitarian engagement in the world while their economical pursuit of profits is allowed to maintain. Finally, nuclear energy may have the image of a CO2-free form of energy, but the production of fissionable uranium as well as the disposal (or recycling) of nuclear waste do release considerable amounts of CO2. And, by the way, uranium is alimited ressource, too.
nuclear waste consists of a couple of radioactive rods that can fairly easily be stored away (say in the Mohavi desert). Nuclear energy produces very little CO2 compared to oil, natural gas or coal (those rods boil water for crying out loud). Fighting against global warming and nuclear power plants at the same time makes no sense.

I must admit though that I prefer Obama in any way any time. While both candidates are outspoken supporters of the constitution (Obama was a professor teaching constitutional law) Ron Paul's views of the self-regulating market forces for the benefit of the people as a whole are not reflected in my observations and experiences in that matter.
Why imperialism? If I had to choose a tag for Ron Paul's foreign policies I'd come up with "Isolationism", or even better fitting "Non-interventionism" (look it up at Wiki) but certainly not "Imperialism". ZenMuadDib, please explain your view.
I've been watching Barack Obama and Ron Paul videos extensively, both here on You Tube and on the candidates' homepages, and I think each is the best in the respective party. I would truly love to see them in the final race to Washington, having fascinating discussions on the TV debates.
i hope you are wrong but this is what im afraid of too. the "powers that be" dont want a man like Ron Paul. thats why at some point we need to revolt against state power. revise our domocracy and restore our beloved constitution.
Some states primary elections will not allow you to vote for a Rep or Dem if you are 3rd party you need to check your states rules. some state are closed primary which mean you have to reg as a Rep to vote Rep.
If you like what Ron Paul has to say and would like to make a contribution, please donate to his campaign before September 30th if possible.(ronpaul2008dotcom/donate)
its called JOURNALISM....remember??? right i knwo its been a LOOOONG time since we have seen it in this country. the free press fell a couple,of decades back and this past decade free speech is on its way out.

I think that people that believe, as Ron Paul has said, that the free market will always (at least, inevitably) act intelligently, need to examine their own intelligence. In the "free" market, those with capital earn more capital, often thru myopic and wasteful and abusive means. Endless examples available upon request. He's a good man, but not an ideal president. Edwards seems the best option to me. or def one of the dems. peace!
And the government doesn't engage in wasteful, myopic, and abusive means? The concept of the free market is that while individuals might be idiotic their own idiocy will be checked in the free market system. And true corporate misdeeds are usually done in partnership with the government.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, states used to file "Quo Warrato" cases against companies that were acting in bad faith to the "Public", and by Public I mean citizens.
He needs to a lot more clear on health care! Tell the people how government intervention has made prices sky-rocketed! How taxes make paying for health insurance difficult for many many Americans!
Paul has to repeal the Patriot Act, not merely rely on his personal wisdom not to use it. Why? Because although we may trust him, it's the next guy, and the one after that. These powers defy the constitution and must be repealed Not 'shelved'.
You just defied the U.S. Constitution. A President cannot repeal Congressional Law. You are mistakenly thinking of King George Bush, as many people do. ;)
I was born in Maine and audiences there and in NH and Vermont especially are not really dour or zombie-like;we tend to be serious and respectful and attentive,so it might be boring, but I think they asked some good questions.
I believe that you are observing the very cautious intellectualism of New Hamshire voters. They weigh everything and is part and parcel to why their state is regarded as a crucial campaign stop.
I believe that every single one of the questions were asked looking for the "I know how to save you" answers and were dumbfounded at his honesty and truth.
Awe bighitter42 that was such a sweet response, truly! And I pray you are correct. How is Dr. Paul doing in NH polls? Is there any word yet?
Also, on an aside, I'm dying of curiosity as to the number of Iowans, who attended the tax/christian debate, walked over to Dr. Paul's rally. Does anyone have a number on that? Then further... I'm equally curious as to their reaction(s). Thanks for posting here bighitter42 :-)
This is one of the best series of videos on Ron Paul I've seen.

he wants to privatize it (which is not much different from what it is now...look at Aetna, Medco, Empire, etc.) as far as the existing system, he did say in an earlier interview he doesnt want to leave people already dependent on the system out in the dust...so I am sure that he would slowly faze out the system for a more privatized health insurance coverage plan...

Ron Paul.. I love you.. but, Nuclear Energy?? come on!!... haven't you heard of nuclear waste? no way.. let's focus on a truly clean energy source like wind or solar.. there are no waste products!!
notahetero 4 years ago
Wind and solar energy is great except, as technology exists now, it is very difficult to harness. And I could be mistaken, but there are some waste products involved in the manufacture of the batteries and other fuel cells involved in the production of these forms of energy. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have looked into alternate energy sources myself. Personally I'm all for ethanoling it up like Brazil.
KiyaraSabel 4 years ago
Ethanol isn't a viable alternative for a number of reasons. First, industrialized agriculture practices use more petroleum to produce crops than it saves. Plus the demand for corn as a fuel means it competes with corn as food.
alaym118 4 years ago
ok.. any waste involved in the creation of wind and solar energy PALES in comparison to the copious amounts of NUCLEAR TOXIC WASTE that the creation of nuclear power does...
how can you even compare the two??
notahetero 3 years ago
I'm referring more to the actual output of energy you get. Wind and solar energies powering everything is a nice idea, but the amount of space it takes up and the relatively very little amount of power which actually is collected needs to be stored in batteries, which are also are extremely toxic.
Wind and solar still needs time to become the primary power source. Nuclear power can pick up the slack to phase out fossil fuels, which produce MORE toxic waste.
OK, ethanol is bad. I get it now.
KiyaraSabel 3 years ago 4
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
there are issues with it. competition keeps the price of energy down and makes the investment cost of nuclear plants unattractive to investors. plants have to be near populations i believe, something to do with loss of energy in transit. currently we have fission, but they are working on nuclear fusion in the south of france (a multi national effort) which may be interesting. personally i believe we will discover unravel something very simple to fuel humanity going forward.
TheDistilledMan 2 years ago
Yeah, cable loss. Electricity dissipates the longer it has to travel through a conductor, unless it is a superconductor. I believe that cooled ceramic acts as a superconductor, but it would take energy to keep the ceramic cool, so that kind of defeats the purpose.
I believe that nuclear power is hindered more by people's paranoia over Chernobyl, which never had proper supervision or containment facilities.
Elasaltaculos 2 years ago
agreed, although i watched a documentary indicating that the effects of radiation at Chernobyl were barely different to the normal effects of ambient radiation elsewhere in the world. It was stunning, they talked about how the first on site clean up operatives suffered lots of negative effects, but that rates of illness on the locals were not that excessive, you never know if it was influenced by nuclear interests but was an interesting documentary regardless

as an engineer with several nuclear engineer friends...nuclear is a very sound choice along with technologies like wind and solar.
just like how the media is unfair to ron paul, it's even more unfair to nuclear power.
lazychump 4 years ago
This pushes corn prices above that which people around the globe can afford to pay. Lastly, as we raise our demand for corn-ethanol, we can't meet the need domestically. So countries like Brazil support the destruction of hundreds of thousands of acres of rain forest to sell corn for ethanol.
alaym118 4 years ago
I was under the impression we have an extensive supply of corn in the US, one of, if not the most abundant crop grown here, if I remember anything from my FFA classes. Plus, corn isn't a very nutritionally healthy food crop, it's primarily a filler, for instance in dog and cat foods, it does nothing more than act as a fattening agent. Of course I'm pretty certain I'm not explaining it well, and I've probably missed a few things but, I'm trying to learn more about the world in general.
KiyaraSabel 4 years ago
I've heard some pretty good things in terms of nuclear power. I hear it actually has less dangerous waste than Coal and oil. Or at least less of it.

Giaus Julius Caesar thought the Roman Republic would last 1000 years, it did last more than 500 years. The United states of America (is 250 years old) won't last another 30 years before it falls into the hands of a dictator. all things ,wither they are good or bad, must come to an end

mason104 4 years ago
Just picture George Bush in this situation and laugh. Clearly Ron Paul has many answers and will better this country more than anyone else. While no one candidate is perfect, Ron Paul certainly is the best candidate running. I hope everyone here will vote for him, share with their friends, and advertise for Ron Paul in any way possible.
rleack 4 years ago 4
i agree and i will vote for him....provided he ever gets nominated. theres a major rumor about all Rons support being genrated by spammers. we have got to STOP this! there are enough of us who support him that we can incite and empassion others to support him as well. by legitimate effective means. lets do it!!!

And, by the way, uranium is alimited ressource, too.
struwwwell 4 years ago
Oh, and nuclear waste is probably a lot worse than CO2.

ROFL!
NO WAY
them carbons killin our earth
nuke waste means we get super powers
not like plants breath carbon or anything ^_^
Garbonzo07 4 years ago
nuclear waste consists of a couple of radioactive rods that can fairly easily be stored away (say in the Mohavi desert). Nuclear energy produces very little CO2 compared to oil, natural gas or coal (those rods boil water for crying out loud). Fighting against global warming and nuclear power plants at the same time makes no sense.

I must admit though that I prefer Obama in any way any time. While both candidates are outspoken supporters of the constitution (Obama was a professor teaching constitutional law) Ron Paul's views of the self-regulating market forces for the benefit of the people as a whole are not reflected in my observations and experiences in that matter.
struwwwell 4 years ago
Yes, this "market forces" rhetoric is neoliberlism and imperialism.
ZenMuadDib 4 years ago
Why imperialism? If I had to choose a tag for Ron Paul's foreign policies I'd come up with "Isolationism", or even better fitting "Non-interventionism" (look it up at Wiki) but certainly not "Imperialism". ZenMuadDib, please explain your view.
struwwwell 4 years ago
Imperialism is a mercantilistic idea not a classic or neoliberal one. Get your facts straight buddy.
rios9000 4 years ago
Ever hear the term imperial neoliberalism?

I've been watching Barack Obama and Ron Paul videos extensively, both here on You Tube and on the candidates' homepages, and I think each is the best in the respective party. I would truly love to see them in the final race to Washington, having fascinating discussions on the TV debates.
struwwwell 4 years ago
it's relevant because there's an invisible hand working in the background to suppress the popularity and or message of Ron Paul..
What happened in the 60's?
We the People demanded change and did someting about it...
Eventually taking back the Gov't..
This is what "superkidd1" is expressing!

i hope you are wrong but this is what im afraid of too. the "powers that be" dont want a man like Ron Paul. thats why at some point we need to revolt against state power. revise our domocracy and restore our beloved constitution.

Some states primary elections will not allow you to vote for a Rep or Dem if you are 3rd party you need to check your states rules. some state are closed primary which mean you have to reg as a Rep to vote Rep.

Edwards seems the best option to me. or def one of the dems. peace!
baronmorris 4 years ago
And the government doesn't engage in wasteful, myopic, and abusive means? The concept of the free market is that while individuals might be idiotic their own idiocy will be checked in the free market system. And true corporate misdeeds are usually done in partnership with the government.
murphycline 4 years ago 2
Yep, this is the case now-a-days.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, states used to file "Quo Warrato" cases against companies that were acting in bad faith to the "Public", and by Public I mean citizens.
"Public" now-a-days means Government.
So you are correct, we're getting the shaft.

Sure, if Ron Paul get's elected and the Congress falls short of the minimum votes. Or he can sign an Executive Order.
Thank you for augmenting the state of law. :)
Steakies 4 years ago
Paul has to repeal the Patriot Act, not merely rely on his personal wisdom not to use it. Why? Because although we may trust him, it's the next guy, and the one after that. These powers defy the constitution and must be repealed Not 'shelved'.
anyusmoon1 4 years ago
You just defied the U.S. Constitution. A President cannot repeal Congressional Law. You are mistakenly thinking of King George Bush, as many people do. ;)
