  • I still have the mtv videos on alternaive music in vhs, for my is best than this one

( the black/white ecenes are from that one) very relaxing voice ans song

  • check blackmore's night cover of this ... its cool ... blackmore rules !! Nice song btw

  • I agree, normally I don't like cover versions that other artists do, but Blackmore's Night pulled it off quite nicely! ...I think they're one of the very few groups that can cover songs and not totally butcher them haha :P

  • I have seen her live twice here in florida long time ago now and both shows were incredible. She is truely a great singer and the band was killer. I LoVE JoAN Osborne!

  • I love youtube. Every time a song pops into my head from the past, I can trust that someone with the same taste already remembered it. Thanks.

  • I like this song, but I don't know what it means.

  • Ordinary people can be saints too.

  • Are you a saint?

  • Not yet

  • I think it is about a drug addict; she is sitting on the corner , taking her doze for a little climb, sitting there with her baby. She sees St Teresa and she's sure everyone sees her as she does. She asks St Teresa to show the truths she have missed to tell, and explains that her crime is a little one, and she had paid her sin for getting her money this way. Maybe I'm wrong.. but I feel it this way.

  • I love the instrumental in this song. Its a great song overall, but i love the melody

  • I Love Joan Osbourne, She is so great but over looked, Even though One of Us is a good song, i feel as if it is the furthest from her best, and its the only one that any one remembers, This has to be my Favorite song from Relish, and Every other flipping song on that album rocks! Wish she could have gotten the recognition she so well deserved.. love her voice get it woman!

  • What music do think is special? And you think disrespecting other peoples taste in music is cute how?? Loser!!!

  • I have loved Joan Osborne since One Of Us and still love her to this day, I would love to do a duet with her one of these days.

  • GOOD MEMORIES....

  • i never knew about this song. its beautiful :P

  • Great Song !!! Good memories

  • Does anybody know the lineup to the Austin City Limits show she did a while back...I've been trying to find a song she sang during that ACL performance that I can't find...It was such a good song

  • Joan Osbourne vs Blackmore's Night

    <3 Candice Night

  • Think I prefer Blackmore's Night version..and Candice is so much sexier than Joan.

  • candance should stick to the slow medevil ballad niche she has going wheich she is very good at...she ruined this song with her cover :P

  • The video isnt really good enough.

    The song,her voice are marvelous!

  • This song is amazing, but this video sucks. I wish it was moodier and took place at night, in some dark alley underneath a full moon.

  • I agree. But she is awesome. You should check out Kate Bush and Loreena Mckennit.

  • Okay I agree with you on Loreena Mckennit but I just checked out Kate Bush you couldn't pay me money to listen to that squeak box.

  • not even cloudbusting,c'mon.you can do it.

  • lol=)

  • el primer sencillo de el disco... es muy bakn sta cancion

  • Jo<3

  • I used to have the cassette, this and the next on the album...

  • only heard this song today and i love it shes great!

  • I couldn't remember the name of this song for the life if me and I almost forgot all about it . I missed this . I remember first seeing this video on Pop Up video on VH1 . That was a while back . LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song and I love it's message - Happiness, joy, awe, can be found weherer we are if we only look for it.

  • she is the best female singer songwriter ever... LOVE HER!!

  • Huh, what a creepy music video. This was my favorite song when I was 6 or 7. Came on the radio on the long drives home from the renaissance faire in California. :) Good memories.

  • this song is better now then it was 11 years ago.

  • Aaaah a favorite forever

  • Joan is awesome!I love her voice and her songs always seem to come from some real life which I can relate to!

  • when she hits the high note at 3:39 it sends chills thru the spine.

    totally awesome

  • I was answering to 24kis............

  • non ci sono parole . anche il testo è pura ispirazione

  • Tell me....I have to work for him?!

  • hope not so....

  • hey, karen7070...wow! thank you, arigato. bravissimo! life goes on...see ya. xxx

  • adoro questo pezzo. che meraviglia !!! santo youtube!

  • Man she is cleaning hotel rooms high as a kite. That is what you getting for eating beating strawberries.

  • Great comment, I'm laughing my ass off!

  • remember the 96...

  • christ. absolute truth. dopeness.

    hooj choons from the nineties.

i remember when this video came out. iot makes me feel old.

  • LOL! Me too. We just have to remember we were kids when this song was out...(I was 13)

  • beautiful woman.

  • Comment removed

  • This si the sort of gorgeous music that used to exemplify Rolling Stone magazine. This, Fiona Apple, singers like that. and now look at Rolling Stone. It pimped itself out to the rap garbage. Jann Wenner, shame on ya lad.

  • wow i thought that was thevideo of me and.... phew! ;)

  • Wow

  • Joan was always soooo sexy...I wanted to give her children....or at least make out with her

  • I doubt it.....I love her...lol

  • Fuck is wrong with you, haven't you ever heard of beauty being more than skin deep? I'll take an average looking girl with a good heart before one of those sheisty bitches that you probably chasing cus they got "sex appeal". That being said, I think she's sexy and talented, can't say I know her heart, but dude definitely don't have bad taste. To each his own, can't say I don't ever judge women based on their looks too though or I'd be a hypocrite lol. 1

  • Your judgement is so erroneous it's pathetic. "Dickweed", "dickface", your sexuality is in question haha. I don't get my "heart fuckin broken" cus I'm not dumb enough to allow myself to be put in such a circumstance, so that shows how much you know. A female's appeal to a man is not necessarily based on physical appearance alone, I find intelligence and talent sexy as well. But she gotta be attractive to the individual, so how you gonna say he has bad taste? Maybe you do and not him. Contemplate

  • I seriously love the way she looks.....she is hot! She floats my boat just right! lol. Thanks for the beautiful comments too...you obviously have good taste in women too! Content and character rule!!!!

  • I am in agreement with you, but aren't we ALL so tired of these mundane, predictable, banal YouTube wars???

  • shit happens

  • Marry me!

  • i appreciate all your interpretation of this song yous are probly right..Forgive me about the the word yous' im born in raised in philly,i now spend time reasiding of mostly in texas,la n t ihink this NYC,but i think its a personal song about addiction maybe her a ind of hers who od'd,i could be wrong but losten to the lyrics

  • This song is one of my favorite its really good to listen into it while you was relaxing. ^_^.

  • this was made in '95

  • love this song

  • nice milf

  • ha milf

  • the secret to life is rembering the last song you heard beforeyou paas out

    this was it....................zzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • this could have been so much better, it ended too soon

  • I think this is her best song...way better than 'One of Us' which drags...this one has a unique beat and showcases her voice.

  • I couldn't agree more. Not just her best song, but a real excellent piece of music. She rips it up.

  • absolutely-you are right on!

  • to 62 years wasting her beauty ... good ... this is my opinion! linda linda! well that he could come to Brazil! I love it!

  • I wanted to be him! that she is not here in the Brazilian esperimentar ...!!!

  • Good song...don't know what it means but it's still really cool. :)

  • I think it's paying homage & respect to the average working class (wo)man. The fish in the tub, the beating strawberry, arm turning from muscle & flesh to a garden, carpet turning to growing grass & running sheep in the hallway represent finding the beauty in the seemingly mundane & especially in oneself.

The working class are saints hence the title of the song.

    That's my interpretation anyway...

  • I appreciate that you took the time to tell me the explanation of this video. The song is SO wonderful but the video is REALLY esoteric. Thank you again!

  • Comment removed

  • do we know why there are fish in the bathtub? This is bizarre.

  • u think they had sex????

  • She has such an awesome voice!

  • she is so amazing. i love her voice. and i love relish. i listen to it almost everyday.

  • joan osbourne rules!!!

  • This song is incredibly dope! Of course I love it fuckers.........

  • The drummer looks like Edge from U2...sort of.

  • So i was just wondering does anyone else know the meaning of this song i have had a couple thoughts about it,but still confused a bit?

  • Read the comments posted by ImmortalSynn...He/She explains the video and lyrics quite well.

  • I love the CD relish. I remember buying it along with Beck when I was 8. She's so talented!

  • i've been looking for this song for years.

  • so that whole Passion movie was wrong, then, since people were pretending to be saints and Christs and stuff?

  • What on earth does her size have to do with anything?? She is a perfectly normal looking woman.

  • Grow up.

  • Also, the woman at 2:48 is not Joan... but it's Joan's sister, Sarah.

The scene is not CGI, it's plastic and makeup.

Joan refused to sit in for the hours it took to put more and more of that on her skin (while taking pictures between each interval)... so they instead did her sister's hair up like her, and had Sarah stand in.

    Just FYI :)

  • that isnt true

  • Hmm, funny-- then why would Joan herself say that during her VH1 special?

...or is it that you just don't have a clue what you're talking about? I wonder...

  • i remember seeing a small clip from a black and white video for this song, any clues as to where i can find that?

  • How did such a heartfelt and haunting song about a drug addict turn into this? This music video will forever destroy the mental image I had of this song.

  • Because it cross-references religious symbolism concerning the REAL St.Theresa (e.g., levitation and lambs)....

....with drug symbolism references (e.g., heartbeat strawberry, goldfish, body turning into plants, etc) to Joan's drug addicted "friend" St.Theresa.

When you look at it from that perspective, it makes perfect sense. My favorite one is:

"Every STONE (i.e., crack rock) a story, like a Rosary"... perfect combo of symbolism. :)

  • I agree...

I think the crap vid I made when I was 12 will endure the memory of this song.

    Poor execution...

  • i have loves this song since i heard this album when it first came out and i always had a certain image for this song and this video totally fucked that up for me. still love the song though!

  • oooh yes...my mental image for this song was totally different from this video. I like the video, but it's not what I was seeing in my head. Always takes me by surprise to find out what someone else thought was the definitive version of what a song "means"...as if there could ever be such a thing!

  • I love this song but this video makes absolutety no sense.

  • You have to know the background to understand it.

To Joan: "St. Theresa" was a crack addict woman that she knew. The woman was prone to hallucinations, but had a sweet personality when not high.

To everyone else: "St. Theresa" is THE actual St. Theresa.

....as such, the video has drug/hallucination references (goldfish and heartbeat strawberry) and also religious references (the real Saint was claimed to be able to levitate, and also felt that sheep were holy).

    That help?

  • wow you know alot about joan osborne thank you for sharing that i was kinda confused as to the meaning of the lyrics of the song

  • No prob.

Joan had a special on VH1, that focused a lot on this song, because it was all the rage when that episode was created; and it explained a lot of the meaning and symbolism.

I just happened to have caught it on tape, so helps with the explanation :)

  • thank you...I'd been wondering for years. I love this song!

  • ...welcome :)

  • although JOan's music isn't nessicarily this same sound - the album RElish is- if you liked this song you should hear the whold album. it's one of my top 10 favorite albums ever! everyone is amazing...

  • This is from the same artist that made "one of us"? A lil hard to believe...I liked her bit hit, it was catchy yet spiritual in a great way. I only wish her sounds was more in that direction...

  • "Relish" is absolultely one of the most underrated albums of the 90's. Joan was nominated for Album of The Year, Record of The Year and Best New Artist that LP. This song, "Ladder" and even "One of Us" are fantastic songs that have aged well. I hope Joan makes another album as good as this one day beacause sadly the follow-up to "Relish" left a lot to be desired. But, her recent album "Pretty Little Stranger" on Vanguard had some of the best stuff she's recorded since these songs in 1996.

  • her new album "Little Wild One" is really good, and she's working with the same musicians from Relish again

  • Love this song!

  • reminds me of purple micro-dot in high school. I love this chick.

  • its amazing how many people think songs are about addiction ,,,,its most likely because they are addicted and trying to come to terms with it by music ,,,,its a good song

  • Of course. There are good songs, and then there are those that appeal to the mass market.

    This is a good song.

  • She has said that "St. Theresa" is about a prostitute that she would see standing out on the corner when she would look out her hotel window...That's what inspired her to write the song.

  • why wasn't she so much bigger than waht she was? this song is a classic! and i would've eaten that strawberry lol

  • I wouldn't have eaten the strawberry.

  • Every single song off the Relish album, except perhaps "One of Us", which was just way too overplayed, is a masterpiece. She's truly wonderful artist, and never got the props she deserved.

  • WHY WASNT SHE FAMOUS FOR THIS..LOL

  • think the songs about street walking..videos meaning?-looks like boring job and she got good imagination to get thru the day..nice song thu

  • its about addiction, what we're willin to do to aid the habits we create, and who we hurt while doin so.. love, love, love joan osborne. relish is a fantastic album!

  • Love this video :P

  • Is this actually better than One of Us?

  • i love this song by joan osbourne its a classic!! love the vid too

  • One of my all time favourites. I have never forgotten this song. It's really stunning.

  • I love this song, and she's so pretty!

  • so... i love the album relish and this song too. but is it about addiction? so in this video is she like on acid that she sees all that stuff?

  • Her car was with all windows open before she got in.

  • haha...

  • Cool song. Builds nicely.

  • I want that strawberry.

  • I do too. I would probably freak the F*#k out if I ate a strawberry and wasn't expecting to see stuff like that though.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written that most people have never heard. If not for working in the Florida Keys one summer I would have never heard it! Thanx for the post!!

  • i whant a g/f who can sing like that lol

  • One of my all-time fave songs! Do people get what this song is really about? Strangely, it seems all but IGNORED in the vid. It's there in the vid, but without listening to the words, nobody would know it had anything to do with addiction. Visual images can be deceiving, huh?

  • It's okay, nobody realises TaTu's "robot" is about a vibrator either!

  • A talent the size of Africa, and such a good song.

  • God she has such a beautiful voice.

  • love

    and

    cool

  • best J.O. song

  • best jack-off song? well...whatever gets you off i guess.

  • amazing song!

  • OMGosh I've been looking for this video for years. I want to say a full decade. I remember the gold fish in the bathtub and Joan as a maid and I found it. Great song!

  • They said, "Don't do the brown acid...it's bad", but I already did the brown acid. This video is a nice acid trip.

  • I hav not heard this song in like 8 yearz. I love it. Itz the only song of herz that i do like.

  • Was this song in the movie, "The Boxer"?

  • Joss Stone needs to sit down somewhere. This is the blackest white girl since Teena Marie. This white girl is SEXY, and she has GORGEOUS LEGS even to this day. I saw her in Texas about 1 month ago. She can STILL BLOW. I would love to hear her do a song with R. Kelly.

  • I loved this song and this vid! I could only see the video, the song was barely or never broadcasted on the radio in my country. Haven't listened to it in like 12 years and still remember the lyrics! Great song *o*

  • who are Ritchie Blackmore?

  • The guitarplayer from Deep Purple and Rainbow

    u no

  • the version where she sings with pavarotti in 1996 was better

  • Had the honour of being in her presence in the States in 1995... she was on Stage 2/B (whatever) and layed down the sweetest, rocking-est [is that a word?] show I've ever seen. Before or since, no one has paralleled her passion. I remember that we were all standing in dirt. I remember that she wore a silk dress. She gave her ALL. Monumentous.

  • Was that The Edge playing the drums? lol

  • Relish is my personal favorite album of the 90s. I was lucky to see Joan at our local blues festival about 6 years ago. God, she is beautiful!

  • this is my favourit song in the whole world trace

  • Q buenaaaa!

  • When this first came out, I remember seeing a black and white video. It's like a film clip was made up of the stuff that was filmed for clips playing in the "tv" in this clip. Make sense? Anyway else see it? Unfortunately, never did get it on tape - didn't chart very well in Australia, so didn't see it much.
