The newschool boards you see everywhere didn't show up until the early 90s. If you see something listed as a mini longboard it just means that company is going along with it for marketing purposes, cause they don't care.

But it was widely recognized that the difference was in length, and the 36" mark was even official at one time. Sorry, but I will never accept the idea that the standard 31"-33" double kick, hard wheeled "trick" board is like the only thing that ISN'T a longboard. It's ridiculous, to think that true, traditional skating is now considered "longboarding". I don't buy it.

A longboard is just a big skateboard, it means it's at least 36". And for the record, there are boards that look exactly like the double-kick standard trick boards, yet are 40 even 44 inches long. What do you call that? A longboard.

The "Popsicle" shape is just the most popular type of skateboard, that DOESN'T mean everything else is a derivitive and is called something different. The word longboard came about as a way to describe "long" skateboards, and that's the only significance that word has.
