I know that there is constant arguing about who deserved to win the gold. I don't really like either skater or their style that much. When I watched this live I was backing plushenko over Lysacek, but Lysacek had the cleaner FS and had far better spins and transitions than plushenko. Many of Plushenko's jumps had scratchy landings and his first axel wasn't good.
The skater I enjoyed watching the most was Daisuke Takahashi, so expressive, but his mistake in the free sadly lost him the gold.
@veryWild5 Oh yes, easy program clean skate. But Lysa wasn't so clean, as the audience thought. Plushenko's jumps were landed-neither two-foot nor underrotation but Evan did mistakes-which are not visible to non-specialists. The european and asian experts saw them. And it was so outrageous how after the short program the judges gave both of them the same score so Evan could have a chance at beating Plushenko. Plushenko's short program was so much superior to Lycacek's.
@lala630312 No Lysa wasn't flawless. I have question marks on his jumping technique especially the axel, regarding rotation. But I have question marks on plushenko's lutz's. They seem to have a habit of having the toe go in the ice backwards but turn to forwards before take-off making it theoretically an unmarkable element in the same way that a toe axel isn't a marked jump. The jumps that Lysa did do corectly had smooth landings, more likely to get +s in GOEs than Plush's.
I don't get you guys! Can't you see how good Evan Lysacek is? I agree, that there are some mistakes, but he did the jumps extremely well! He is my favourite figure skater. He is handsome, good at skating and has a nice body shape. I remember, when I was watching this on TV, I was couldn't believe what I saw. It was amazing.
It makes me sick that the judges were unfair! I mean, every skater show his personality in their programs and judges shoud respect it and look for the quality of the elements. Instead they acted like people with preconceptions and with low levels of culture. Well, what's done it's done, unfortunatly the final results were unfair and the audience, the coaches and the athlets knew it. It seems that the judges are the only people there that don't understand a thing about figure skating!
Weir didn't medal because these judges canot accept a man who is a little feminine and graceful in the way he skates. Instead they give it to Evan because he skates hard, tough, MANLY! I love Weir alot more than Evan because he breaks the rules, and i feel Evan has a huge ego.
@bayoucool I agree. It is such a shame that 35 years after John Curry and Toller Cranston, the judges will still not accept a graceful and classically beautiful skater. It's as if all the battles that John and Toller fought back in the 1970's have to fought all over again. I think Lysacek is mediocre and boring. Technically he is not as good as Plushenko and artistically he's not as good as Weir, Lambiel or Takahashi.
@npe1 Well, I don't agree. Lysacek was the best, and the others had mistakes that were absolutely obvious. Yes, he had also some little mistakes, but not much. Also, the publics opinion is important, and the crowd was amazed by him. THINK, before you write something. :P
@chrystinaloverock You are clearly not a skater. There is no such phrase in the English language as "absolutely obvious" - what an appalling use of language. Actually Lysacek had a very major mistake: his second triple axel was not properly rotated. Now, you not being a skater wouldn't recognise just how much of a serious mistake that is. By the way, it should be "public's opinion" - there is a possessive which requires an apostrophe. I do think before I write, you clearly do not.
@npe1 Oh really? well, you seem very full of yourself. So what if I don't write correctly? This video is not about literature, it's about figure skating. I'm not even an english person :P. If you are mad because of my opinion about Lysacek, don't criticize my writing. Don't forget, " Freedom of speech".
@chrystinaloverock Well if this video is about figure skating, then pray tell us your experience of figure skating. You describe Lysacek as having made a "few little mistakes", but an under-rotated jump is more than a little mistake. I'm not criticising your writing, I'm criticising your lack of knowledge about skating. If you're not a skater, then shut up because you know nothing about our sport.
Takahashi should have won the SP. He was undermarked with PCS while the judges inflated Lysacek's PCS. It is beyond laughable that Lysacek received higher PCS than Takahashi closer to Lambiel.
@96MsHamster you think Stephane is the best. it is your opinion. in my eyes, he acts like a woman, very sissy. in fact, his name is sissy as well. Stephane with " E ". it sounds like " Stephanie " in german. hahahaha
@96MsHamster Stéphane Lambiel is one of the most elegant and artistic skaters I've ever seen but I'm afraid he cannot win an Olympic gold medal because he's not strong on the jumps, especially the triple Axel.
that romanian guy was pretty good.
