a way to test out your chain length is to rest the chain on your hand. if both poles touch your hand your nunchaku are fine if not the chain is too long.
In your video you have a long chain like the one you have on the floor showing how it is done i have been doing this for some thirty years and use a short chain. On the floor you wrap around your wrist the second time around and in the video you dont watch it carefully and you will see it because in the wrap around your hand with some speed the chucks will go the opposite direction!
My nunchakus are made of steel, and are attached to each other by chain, so they're a bit heavier than most standard nunchaku. Can I still manage to pull this off? I'm asking because the wheight makes it harder to swing faster, alas, when I release it doesn't fly into my grasp. Instead it flies out of my reach. :P
I don't expect to learn this from the get go, but I just noticed that wristrolling with the chain might be a lot harder. Any tips? I'd really appreciate it.
it depends on how long your chain is. It makes no difference if it is a chain or a rope, the action is the same. If your chucks are solid stell then they might be a little heavier, but some wooden chucks are very heavy, much heavier than hollow steel. Either way, its entirely possible with your chucks. The longer the chain, the harder it gets though. if you have light steel chucks with average chain it should be just fine.
your demo is exellent! the way u slowed it down is brillaint i got the first part from another vid but the second part is so fast i cant see whats going on, so yes gr8 job now i know :))
I notice that you did this with both a rope and a chain set, does one work better than the other? I also notice that you have a better lenght of chain or rope than some chucks have. Some come with as little as 4" of string in between. I only have ones with the short line at this time but I would bet that with a longer chain or rope it will slide around the wrist easier, is that true?
dude i fucking love you ive been trying to fugure out how thats done & i couldnt if you stop doing this stuff ill hunt you down & kick ur ass not really good job
Well that would be of no use in real fight. Try hitting an object with the hand positioning as close as that to the chain. Hand or fingers would certainly get pressed between the sticks. ah these days, "martial artists" use nunchakus to entertain other primates.
dude i have just started using nunchucks so im pretty crap, but within 5 mins of watching this i can sort of do it already. thanx heaps this is such a good tut mate.
Is there any particular size or style of nunchaku that are good for beginners? I have these foam covered things with a chain. Should I be using something different or am I just being useless, lol!
you can probably get foam-covered training nunchaku at a sports store somewhere, they will probably be legal (also good to practice with, if you hit your knuckles/face with a wooden pair it hurts like hell lol)
They're used to connect different moves, just like a pass without handswitch. In order to use it efficiently you should also learn the Front-To-Front Wristspin - at least. Once you are comfortable with them it's getting really fun :)
DUDE the Frame by frame is awsome, I respect the way u teach. I had to learn this move by my self by watching other Videos and i swear i woulda learnt the Move faster if i had your frame by frame back when i didnt know how to do it
When I saw the play-by-play frame thing, I literally said, "Dude, you rock." I just saw Domino (2005) Starring Keira Knightey (as ou can see by my name, I'm a *huge* fan) and I saw that scene in the alley when she did a wristflip really fast. My slow-motion on my TV was still to fast. You ROCK!!! Now, I have to practice....*spins nunchaku around and hits self in eye*
Dude, thanks your video has helped me no end. Now all i need to do is put it into practice, thanks again and neat idea on how you showed the frames Clever shit! You are right though it's extremely hard, near on impossible to explain the moves. Peace, be good to see some more when you got time mate.
