Kars; intresting video. I don't understand no. 6 of your recommendations, but I assume you refer to a mindset ("sunshine"). I won't be there tomorrow evening, but we'll meet again. Concerning the state of trance in running: hard to indicate the elements necessary for trance. Monotone rythm is to my opion a very important factor.
About nr 6.sunshine, I found the sun shining on my body and face (warmth and radiation) makes it much easier to slip into that blissful state of flow. They are nice sensations to let you mind wander off into. Although too much sun is stressful off cause. I agree that monotone rhythm is a strong factor.
I'm always amazed how such a simple video without any celebrities, hip music, tricks and whistles can yield such high view count :)
I think people like it because it is recognizable to their home pool situation. It has some new cool thing to do, flying under water, and it has some tips how to enjoy that super cool mysterious state of mind called FLOW.
But please people do tell me specifically why you liked it! - I like to learn!
Well I've heard of people blacking out upon immersion, due to 'over packing' blocking the bloodflow, loose air and come around realizing what happened and being in control. I've not heard of anyone falling 100% asleep underwater. Though I'm now interviewing Branko Petrovic who has expressed that worry to me :)
Hey man that was amazing great job keep up the good work I'm getting into freediving I have a quick question the neck thing what is the name of it does any of u guys no the name and were can I buy one ???
It's a neckweight, homemade, not availeble in stores. it's made out of leadshot - 2 KG, two clips, inner bicycle tyre, glue. You can perform a search on deeperblue[dot]com forum and find a detailed guide how to construct your own. There is something magical about using your self made equipment.
For the ear pressure equalisation question: search the deeperblue com forum. - Meditation, sure it's nice to do and it's an effective way to conserve oxygen. - Other commuters, if they think, think I'm a pro and are ok, besides I got a safety diver who is observing me close up (and filming too ;) - Be response able and have fun and courage in exploring!
Amazing! felt soo relaxed watching this too. Taht essential bit of brain training-pre dive and consequently, during is what we ALL need for a greater appreciation of each other AND our own bodies! Thanks.
This is quite amazing.I m doing free diving myself. But i have trouble with the equasion.I the deepest i ever been is 9 meters.Usualy i use a mask. Can you tell me a way to train myself to go deeper? My ears find it hard to withstand more than 9 meters depth
@Adanosiam it's likely that your equalisation needs to be improved. I could write up a long list of things you can do to improve it, but that's to long for in a reply. I think your problem is that you're getting behind on equalisation. The reasons for this can be various. From late equalisation to only partial equalisation, to cold water stiffening up your tubes, to not being able to have enough air to push towards the ears. More in the next reply.
Some things you can do: 1 Have clean sinuses and tubes, 2 Have a warm body and head, 3 equalise frequently, 4 go feet first along a vertical line, 5 avoid 'stretching your ears'.
Hi, I had the same problem and took a course with the best/dedicated instructor ever, and now can go to 82ft no problem. Check immersion freediving (in florida) with Ted Harty, I know he also offers equalization sessions on skype for around 40$ if you don't want to go for the whole course. Really worth it.
@soapcie007 ps. I was doing "vasalva", and it typically does not work past around 15 ft. He has a step by step approach to teach you the "Frenzel" method. You can also check it on internet (but it's not really obvious if you just read it)
At the surface I do float. I just make a duck dive, and the water pressure at the -3.80m depth - 11ft, compresses our lungs, reduces our buoyancy and consequently we are neutral or negative. To make it more relaxing I wear a bit of weight, so the jumping and falling goes extra easy, even while wearing the buoyant wetsuit.
I would like to help with find some relaxation yourselves, as some suspect there is more to it than the list provided in the video. I live in the Netherlands, feel free to drop a line.
I plugged my nose for comfort, it keeps the water out falling down to the bottom.
Why I do this exercise?
- training my body and mind,
- sheer fun of the feelings these dives give me.
When I'm diving deep, like the 50m, the phase of falling down is relaxation, surrender, an odyssey to depth.
Your comments are interesting, insightful and motivational to me.
Research is part of Freediving, and it's a part I love, discovering how one's body and mind works. I made this video to show a good list of the things that allows freedivers to excel and do these amazing dives. Secondary you can use these points to in any other activity that requires your top focus and relaxation.
Very impressive indeed. At first I was not sure what the diver was going to do, and I was impatient, waiting for the action as it were. Then I thought he would simply hold his breath for a minute and a half or something like that. I felt a desperate need to breath more than normal watching this. A real eye-opener for me. Thanks for posting it.
Neck weight is 2 KG, 1 KG on the hips, wearing a 3mm High waist and density pants, and a 3mm vest.
Last Sunday I did the same dive, but added 3 widths of swimming and came up after 4'23". - Despite the lack of rest and sleep the days before.
Maybe I'll post another video when my dives are over 5.
This all is training for my dream dive, 5' dive to -50m deep unassisted I plan on doing in Spain this summer. I'll have that one recorded in a unique way when things work out.
@ookiemand Hi, I live in montreal Canada and in the great lakes area there are hundreds of shipwrecks at around 50 metres. It is considered the best FRESHWATER wreck diving in the world.

@767will767 Because he lets a little bit of air out. If you don't let alittle of air out. you wouldn't be able to go underwater.
