God damnit. Seth Macfarlane is so sharp, but I disagreed with everything he advocated here. Keep government out of everyone's lives, not increase their role therein. The other half of this speech is that he is using a loose grasp of historical figures, social tendencies, and economics, intertwined with humor, to sell his "thinly veiled" arguments. Stick to comedy, leave the politics to those already wedged in the muddy doldrums.
Move to Canada and stop complaining about our country. These Hamiltonian ideals were defeated 235 years ago. Also stop focusing on fiction and personal defamation. Be objective. Read history. This country is in 6 wars right now costing millions of lives creating thousands of new terrorists at a cost of $1.5trillion/year. Your healthcare costs are skyrocketing because of govt intervention in healthcare. Veterinary care and Chiropractic care are still relatively cheap=no govt intervention
@packerthe3rd I totally see what you mean but bear in mind in the uk there is also a private system that you can use if you want to pay. I'm thinking more along the lines of many people in the US can't afford to pay for all the great treatments available, and then what happens to them? And I know there is a lot of paper work involved (a friend if mine worked at a GP for a while) and there are problems, there is still the option to have private healthcare so what are you losing?
coming from a liberal european persepctive i find it hard to understand the american resistance to healthcare. here in the UK we have the NHS and its a huge source of national pride - if any government touched it with a cut then there would be an outcry, which is a great thing as it fuels peoples belief in society and generosity. and besides, why would anyone not want free healthcare? a little extra tax and everyone benefits, so why fight it?
@cecilx22 well i agree, and i could understand that coming from the wealthy, but a lot of poorer people dont want it, and they would be the ones to benefit hugely. totally illogical. but i look at it from a different standpoint of being pro-the welfare state, so i cant really empathise
@nhlmrey01 Those who are greedy have used the media to convince them that such a system would be disastrous. They characterize the British national system as a abject failure. Rather than do any research on their own, they just swallow it up.
@nhlmrey01 I agree completly. I am european myself and I don't get why americans resist it so much. it would only be for their benefit. if you're healthy and want to get the best private care you can always do that! nobody makes anyone use the national healthcare system. european systems aren't perfect, everybody complains, but because they want more of it not less.
@pesahson why wouldn't they be? that is if you let them compete naturally rather than rewarding lazy/corrupt business practices (which is what obama's plan does).
what, you didn't think we were getting uhc, did you? noooo, they would never let that happen. like i told you, everything washington touches turns to shit.
@nhlmrey01 Hi I realy like your comment nhlmrey , the one thing is and I see both sides on this is the american hospitals have much much higher quality of service there. they dont see them as patients but as customers. So if they dont like the way the hospital treats them they can got to another hospital. I love our NHS but since its run by the government its got to deal with all the buerocratic nonsence that goverments in evitably produce. I think the US is scared of things like waiting lists..
And not being able to get certan drugs. the fact is the bill payer decides what drugo to the patient. Im america its easy to pick up certain life saving allegy medicines but in the uk its near impossible most dont even know they exist. simple because the uk government wont fund them. thats the freedom americans are thinking they will loose. to them its not about the money, it about loosing the quality and choice they have had for so long.
Family guy used to be pretty funny. It focused on the characters wacky antics and made jokes on movies, history, and politics we all could have a laugh on regardless of what we personally believe. Much like the Simpsons and South Park. Then after the 5th season, it just got really liberal and one sided and seemed more like a way for MacFarlane to hide behind a cartoon and rant his anger and bigoted beliefs rather then just being funny and creative.
Glenn Beck is not a libertarian at all...he is if anything a neoliberal fascist...pardon my hyperboly. Not saying that its bad but ya know not my cup of tea but hey what do I know...oh and he seems like a bit of a fearmongering cunt
Isn't glenn beck a libertarian? If libertarians are anything like him, then i know who sucks. Define libertarian to me. What makes you so high and mighty. But I agree with you on conservatives sucking dick.
USA can lead on the evolution of the welfare state. You're the western world leader. It doesn't mean a decrease in foreigner trade, that won't change. However, health care, public education, microcredit(THE MOST IMPORTANT ECONOMICAL CREATION OF THE END OF 1900), unemployment assistancy, etc, can be really important.
Microcredit on the US can mean a 1% growth on the GDP every year. And, on the long term, it doesn't mean tax raise. I hope Obama is the man for this changes. Or it will be Lula...
Brazil is growing because it affords growing salaries with its high taxes on the most rich. Yes, that is keynes. Yes, that was over on the 80s. But, History isn't a straight line to the progress, as the rightists try to tell. Every policy has a reason in every society. Economical-liberalism was important in the begining of the last century, it has got obsolote in the middle of it, and regrowth in the end. It changed, it evolved it adapted.
My gosh... I thought you(americans) were concerned enough about this economic crisis to look to the world and think out the box.
I'm brazilian. My country, China and India, are the best examples of growing-although-crisis nations. Mine is probably the most democratic of those 3. In fact, I believe it is even most democratic than USA, since we have dozens of parties and a real ideological dispute every election.
But, you don't need and don't care about Brazil, why should you. I'll tell why:
and for those who bash on obama, everyone has good points, for or against him but he didn't create this mess, and it will take longer than a few months to rebuild our nation. claytrainor, you think liberals are being stupid? Dick Cheney and other republicans actually have the nerve to stand up now & defend what happened the last 8 years? That makes them look stupid. the entire bush administration to me are nothing more that modern day Nazi's. starting wars tapping phones & destroying our nation
anyone who supports what the bush administration has done to this country the past 8 years should be shot in the head to accompany the brain damage they must have! everything in this country has been about making money, it's no longer a war on terror, our country is in recession and were stil increasing the national defecit by helping other countries? We need to focus on our own country first, lets not have another vietnam people.
I'm so very done with this video and its debates. Blanckepi, I never said Obama's policies are only about a minute tax increase. Of course I only meant that in terms of taxes, he's taking a bit more from people who can afford it. The fact that being liberal is synonymous with communist just proves that this isn't a debate worth having.
Claytrainor, forgive me, everything I've learned comes from papers.. not television. The economic crisis has to do with SUBPRIME MORTGAGES...
..and the fact that people have mislabeled them. How is that a high amount of government regulation? Look, I'm speaking in terms of the economic crisis. I'm not saying I want the US to be the next USSR. I'm saying that there needs to be RULES from now on when it comes to companies like this instead of letting them do as they please.
Thank you for your quotes, points, and very insulting remarks. This is why I hate debate with rightists.. all you do is take what is being said and twist it, much as you just did.
Some of these lies people spread about Obama make me worry about our country. Seriously we have some EXTREMELY STUPID PEOPLE HERE who believe all the right wing garbage they hear. Obama is still trying to clean up what you guys messed up over the last 8 years and it's going to take him a hell of a lot longer than a year or two to get it all settled and on the right path again. Government isn't the problem, it's the ignorant greedy idiots that live in this country that are ruining it.
Here's your answer - Obama has done nothing but adopt policies which punish the economic achievers, thereby decreasing the GDP, all while running $11 trillion in budget deficits for the next 10 years. Obama himself said that his policies have wrecked the economy and that they cannot be continued.
How to fix this economy would be to shrink the size of government, not increase it, not raising taxes on the private sector, and not trying to nationalize industries like the auto companies and banks.
This is however untrue. The economic recession did not start the minute Obama got into office, nor is it based alone on his policies. I will agree that he has not made the best decisions since being in office but his decisions NOW have nothing to do with the crisis' conception. The economic crisis isn't even George W's fault. It's that of George Sr, of Reagan, maybe even Clinton. It has to do with SHRINKING government involvement and hoping Smith's invisible hand would take care of everything.
Basically, you're saying that you have issues with the free market economy and capitalism itself.
Since you love government controlling and regulating the economy and every other facet of your own life so much, go try living in Cuba or Venezuela as a commoner for a while and see what it's like to live in a Marxist banana republic.
Or, if you'd rather not do this, don't worry - America will be turning into a regime just like these countries soon anyway, that is, if Obama's agenda prevails.
You had me up until "It has to do with SHRINKING..."
That is total nonsense, and you need to turn off your TV
You really want a bigger government? The government who gave you the patriot act? The government who occupies over 140 sovereign nations with 700+ bases?

The idea of letting the economy work on its own OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT WORK! You can't just leave the banks to themselves because they do shit like that and then conservatives get to blame the liberals for reasons they make up... even if it is they're fault in the first.
You are so deluded to believe that Obama's policies are just about "a minute tax increase to people who have multiple cars and diamond jewelry to wear every day."
In reality, Obama's policies are about seizing control of industries and destroying the middle class.
Every dollar spent by Obama is one less dollar spent by taxpayers. His money comes from taxes, borrowing (taxes on layaway) or printing it. If not offset by productivity, this causes inflation, which is a stealth tax on everyone.
Oh really? Like that time when "South Park" had a minor character wearing a tie-dye shirt introduced by a voice-over as being an "aging hippie douche?" Or like the way that the "South Park" creators cast all those liberal Hollywood actors as the villains in their "Team America: World Police" movie?
No, I don't think the fuck so - Seth MacFaglane's shitty shows have done nothing but carry water for extremist left-wing ideology. I know this all too well, since I've seen every single episode.

Seth is clearly foolish enough to love the left, because the Bush and Co. fucked up for the last 8 years.
Too Bad, Obama has changed nothing, but amped up the spending, and the wars.

Did anyone else notice he is not speaking from the stage that is behind him? Instead he chose to be on the ground; at the same level as everyone else. Smart move in my opinion.
Of course Seth MacFaglane doesn't want a tax break - this sausage jockey does nothing but produce Marxist propaganda-laced cartoons that foment hatred for White heterosexual people.
Just like many other Hollywood entertainers, he doesn't actually produce anything that people actually NEED or helps to produce wealth, goods, or services for the rest of the economy.
Seth MacFaglane is just another smarmy and smug "do as I say and not as I do" limousine liberal neo-Marxist.
Seth McFarlane is such a pole-smoking faggot. He can't let a single episode of any of his unfunny animated shows get made without lacing them with faggot-themed material and references.

Seth MacFaglane is just another smarmy and smug "do as I say and not as I do" limousine liberal neo-Marxist.

I don't think Macfarlane is evil, as you suggest, just misinformed.
He's clearly one of these people who reads Noam Chomsky as if his books are the bible.
Chomsky deserves accolades for his works in linguistics and his explanations of how media works but, he's a total buffoon when it comes to economics.
Macfarlane probably has the right idea when it comes to foreign policy, but he's very clearly an ignorant Chomsky follower, if you ask me.

Seth McFarlane is such a pole-smoking faggot. He can't let a single episode of any of his unfunny animated shows get made without lacing them with faggot-themed material and references.
Stop pretending you're not a schlongholster, McFarlane. It's getting old now.

Wow, no facts and an all opion based speach. Thats what I want to hear. Thanks

There is extreme value in the opinion of a self made millionaire.
And these words are spelled "opinion" and "speech" - not "opion" and "speach"
You'd definitely make a laughable character Family Guy!

pure unadulterated common sense. how on earth can you argue with that?
baddmanaz 3 years ago 10
Didn't you here, common sense is no longer common. So the only thing we can call it is logic which, ohh so many people today don't like to follow.
But i hear you.... MacFarlane for president!
or George Carlin if he were still alive!

People whose paradigm is shaped by fear based, disconnected, superficial ignorance certainly find a way!
Check out the videos on the McCain - Palin Mob its ridiculously disgusting.
Obama!
