  • shake it towards the side you inserted it

then get a tea-spoon and stick it past the sd card

then pull spoon (and sd card) out

  • A me è capitato!!!! fortunatamente ho agitato varie volte il notebook ed è uscita.....

  • pull it out

  • So you don't put the whole thing inside?? Only half??

  • To anyone who was saying "Why would you do this?!?".... seriously. I am well aware, as I am sure everyone else who did this is, that the optical is meant for cd's and dvd's and the sd is meant for sd and they are not interchangeable. They made the stupid slots RIGHT next to each other it seems, and when you are feeling around with the sd card you don't realize that the optical drive feels the exact same until you realize you done goofed. I hope everyone's works out because this a lame design imo

  • I did this! I was half asleep one morning and put my SD card in the optical drive slot. I tried and tried with tweezers, but couldn't grab the card, but I could feel it. I ended up getting it out on the second try with a bent paperclip. I bent the paperclip around the perimeter of another SD card so it basically looked like a capital L with one extra little piece so it wrapped around both sides and the back of the SD card.

  • download a dell manual..to disassembel you dell

  • Do you think we did this ON PURPOSE or for fun? It was an accident! These community boards are meant for people to help other people out who are looking for advice or suggestions. If you can't provide any assistance to posters who are looking for help, then don't bother with your self-centered criticisms. You offer absolutely no value.

For those of you who did this, if the SD card didn't go to far, you might be able to fish it out with a cardboard cut into a hook shape. Saw it on youtube

  • Why in the fuck would anyone put an SD card in a slot that is made for a god damn digital disk? common sense.

  • @duckkeeper126058 I actually just did this, i wasn't paying attention and poof there it went.....needless to say i dug out the micro screwdriver and dove in...fuckin dells are a bitch to get into.

  • I just did the same thing. Yes, I know it was stupid, but I just wasn't paying attention and accidentally missed the SD slot and put my SD card into the optical drive. I tried the paper clip method and tried to shake it out, but nothing budges. I think the optical drive sucked it in so it's no longer towards the front of the drive. I may have to foot the bill to get my local computer repair guy to get it out, but anybody have any helpful hints?

  • @foxytangofortwo dive in with a screw driver!

  • one word STUPID

  • I cant believe that the same thing has happend to me too!! I need help...!

  • ok there is just one word to discribe this.....

    STUPID

    who put's a SD card into a DVDDRIVE ...

    those words do not match

there is a SD CARD SLOT for your SD CARD

and a DVD DRIVE for your DVD'S

    omg

  • Just call Dell support madam...

  • contract dell techinal support

  • all fixed now thanks, the memory card had actually gone in the slot drive and fallen right down into the mechanism, so now way it was going to fall or come out with tweezers.

  • @makingasplash4rescue xD I did this ages ago :/ still aint fixed :'(

  • @makingasplash4rescue How did you get it out? Did you have to open up your laptop?

  • @makingasplash4rescue I was wondering where did it fall into I actually did the same thing cause i wasn't paying attention

  • @makingasplash4rescue HOW ON EARTH DID YOU GET YOUR SD CARD OUT?????!!!!!!! I GOT MINES SSTUCK IN RIGHT NOW AND I LOOKED IT UP QUICKLY ON HERE CAN YOU EXPLAIN PLEASE!ITS NOT MY LAPTOP!!!!!!!!

  • call a service tech, or go down to your local store in your neighborhood and they can help remove this item.

  • Once i got a cotton ball from end of qtip stuck in my ear i used some long thin tweezers out of a first aid kid. That reallly has nothing to do with your issue, but seems like tweezers could have worked better for this situation also lol I have this same computer though so ill keep this in mind. Also did you try tipping it and shaking it first and it just didnt fall out?

  • link on this problem with Apple computers ://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2283444&tstart=0

  • go to pc world or some where (if in UK) they might do it for cheaper, or if you have a electronic state of mind you might be able to get the tools to un screw it, but if you do that your warrant'y is definitely out of the window, personally id find a computer specialist store and ask them to just take it apart and remove the card, the drive might still work! and its cheaper then dell.

  • Apparently it's £180.28 to have this fixed., £110 for the new drive and then fitting cost. When the laptop came I was shocked to see the slot loader dvd, missing my desktop now and the hardware you could replace yourself and was cheap as chips.

It's so strange that the dvd and the laptop and all the useage is completely unaffected
