This game was a great game; about 10 years ago. Age of Empires 3 is good, but it does get boring after a while. There never will be an Age of Empires 4 because Ensemble Studios shut down, and all. I think it would terrible if they put AoE4 in a modern world. And all too you guys saying this game is crap, the AoE series and AoM would have never been made if this wasn't such a great hit that kicked off the 'Age of' series.

Microsoft shouldn't have closed Ensemble. I would have liked to see either an Age of Mythology 2 or a remake of this or AoE2. I also think it'd be interesting if they made a campaign resembling a Total War game, with a world map made of provinces owned by different factions. You could attack other regions and it would turn into a regular AoE match where you either defended your land or drove invaders out.

Although i have played all AOE, civilization(best strategy game technically ),rome:total war,,warcraft etc etc. and have mastered em all but this remains most enjoyable game ever for me .No game can equal or even come close to the plaeasure that this game has given me in my school time.

feels nostalgic;this was my life for 4 years ,i also got it from 98 SE cd.Played its demo version countlessly .I would play same scenrio thousands time using different strategies.Best one was to use early gold to make priest,make wall than converting literrally every possible unit,in the end i would have an army 200-300 villagers which will wipe out computer even after suffering huge losses

This looks gay, no offence but the cannon took 5 seconds just to get to the ship 20 meters away, and the footmen don't even take diagonal turns they just go vertical and horizontal.

This game is one of the oldest RTS games in the world... all major RTSs wore made using this model...

For me this is the crown of RTS gaming, and i would really like them to make a remake with new graphics :)

I remember my old PC came with a microsoft CD which amoung other things, offered a demo of Age of Empires. I spent ages playing that demo though there was one mission I messed up. I needed to build a wonder but there was no more gold on the map. I always took my time, I never attacked unless I was sure I could defend and was sure my attack would be successful.

I eventually got the game, but that demo was so much fun it made me wonder why they where offering it for free!

Oh yeah, I remember finding them. By the end I had basically explored every area of freeland possible and had set up a number of bases around the place. It was just that at the end I had wasted all my gold on centurions sending up small attack groups. Acctually thinking about it I might have completed it by conquest.

Hmmm, my AOEROR works fine over LAN. However, this game was designed for IPV4 instead of IPV6, but IPV4 is still supported by most LANs.

I remember when we got our first computer in 99 we had the trial version for a couple of months. Got tired of it so we bought the aoe ror gold edition. Played countless hours on a 56k modem with netzero lol Those were the days, wish I could go back to them.
