Of course, I also agree with you, Seek. There is no talent left, or at least not much real talent. Someone comes up with a new concept and everyone jumps on it, because they can't stand on their own.
And OMG, American Idol gets worse and worse and worse... it's like, uh.. you've found any of us that actually had potential in your first couple seasons, give it a break.
There is plenty of talent in the music industry, you just can't go to the radio to find it. I feel kind of bad for you if all you know of music is what's on the radio...there is so much amazing music out there.
okay, i am no fan of the jonas brothers...but i am a fan of how they came to be. My space and You Tube is what got them their chance and the big life. So, pure internet popularity made Disney give them a chance. They are still ONLY boys. Will they ever break away from the Jonas Brothers' fame or whatever, only time will tell. They are from a family that never pressured them to become famous...all the brothers strived for it. Their history is unique. No matter how I hate their music.
There's just as much talent in the music industry as there ever was. The only difference now is that the talentless, who were once booed off stage, are now making so much damned noise that they're drowning out the good stuff.
Finding good new music is difficult - it's a chore to sift through all of the garbage but there are some real gems out there.
We can't judge whether any of the rock music of 2009 is "classic" because by it's very nature, classic has withstood the test of time.
And - like it or not, music is (like brocolli, beer and baseball) a matter of taste. There is no objectively great music.
"music has become the filler between commercials". Of course! What do you think TV shows are? LOL! But that doesn't mean some of it can't be highly entertaining.
Hmm I sort of agree with you here; there is no talent in new pop music, so there is no new talent on the radio, true. But there is an utter abundance of new and fantastic music just waiting to be discovered! Forget classic rock stations, who are confined to the same 200 hits, that shit is hella boring. Forget the radio altogether, please; it's just soulless filler for the philistines! It's time for you to hear what the indie kids are listening to. If you need some suggestions, just let me know.
yea, sort of sucks. Problem is ya got to be "in the loop" to get anything out these days. Every one going for the fast buck. New Kids On The Block, ruined it for every one.
You think you've got it bad? Try being a vocalist going to the same jam sessions, with the same hippies, time on end.
Gimmie three steps up the stairway to freebird really gets old after a while. Especially when you're at the mercy of too loud guitarist masturbating each other on the stage. YUGH! Fortunately, a few have taste, and will work on songs we singers can shine on, but they are few and far between.
Fuck the pop station, here's some talented bands for you: Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Protest The Hero, Atreyu, blessthefall, Arch Enemy, Bullet For My Valentine and Opeth. That will keep you listening for a while. Rock on!
Some of the new underground rock music is rather good and inventive. But again.. some rock bands, when they come into contact with the industru gets screwed over. And has to change their music to suit the money. I resent that!
Half the problem is there's not enough LSD in the world anymore. I would say that 90% of all of the best music I have ever heard was inspired by, or (at least partially) written while under the influence of LSD. I grew up in a band house. I had 3 "homes" I never had to knock on the door when I was growing up- 2 of them were band houses. That kind of shit is just really rare these days, where people can- literally -sit around for days experimenting with sounds, rifts and rhythms. Shit happens.
I like the PennSays channel too. He covers all sorts of topics and says what's on his mind. I usually find myself agreeing with him, lmao.

College and community radio stations haven't failed me yet.

I gave up on pop music more than a decade ago. Hip Hop never spoke to me and even contemporary rock rarely does it for me either.
I would have to concur and say that classic rock is the monolith in whose shadow everything else lies.

All pop songs should sound like The Cure's pop songs.

No, the industry sucking MTV's hind tit in the '80s did that.
One hit wonders ruled the land, and you needed a barf bag to listen to a whole album of "the latest sensation".

NO fucking talent! My son has more talent in his little toe than the whole music industry put together.
He is currently wirting a song, that si kinda creepy. But at least it is not the same shit everybody else is doing.

Only in regards to pop music, my dear Vogon poet. Pop music, by it's very design, is not geared towards talent.
