@bodyanti - turn-it-up. Rudd didn't even survive one term in the PM's chair - even his OWN people came to realise he was toxic - and showed him the door! Sure he produced a surplus but that has nothing to do with the private sector. Youre not taking into account that if liberal we're in government right now, they would have a deficit anyway due to reduction in tax revenue.
yes but ur forgetting that we were in recession wen howard took over... we were also in tens of billions of $'s of debt... It wasnt through labour's budgets that got us out, it was labours budgets that got us in... we were out of debt in 1 term of Howard...
If we had a liberal government, i no we would still b in a bad spot but, we would be in a much better spot then we r now... It took labour 1 term to get us back into debt... how sad...

I never complain about taxes, because I agree that some of my wages spent on roads, schools, hospitals, broadband, national security etc. Having a bit more disposable income that I could splurge is not better than these things.

I agree that you should be helped but what I dont agree with is the government taking money from people who have slaved away, done over time n all and then giving it to ppl who have been lazy, decide to blow their money on stuff they dont need, 1 big example is alcohol, and sit back and enjoy their government bonuses...
If you r trying to get ur break then u so deserve government bonuses and assistance.

When he says give to the poor, he means give of ur resources such as money, food, time to help them get somewhere in life.
The government shouldn't b giving extra money out to the poor but instead offering bonuses for those who dont have much but try...
you talk about taking Australians jobs but i seriously don't see people volunteering to being a dishy or a factory worker, Australians leave that for the migrants. Robbie you have to get out and see the world more, see how some countries are living at the moment and then be grateful that you are living in a country that is able to support you if something was to happen to you. Then you would be on the doll
i mean at the moment i am in china something like 1.6 billion people here so don't talk about people coming in and taking Australians jobs because us Australians also go overseas and take jobs because there is no opportunities in Australia as yet for some people...
So true reneefraser just look at American films that are made here. And we take a lot of foreign jobs in the video games industry. All because ours is almost dead.
Yes and my best friend is on the doll because she just gave birth. People I'm sure are well aware that the doll sometimes isn't going to the people who use it productively I know my cousin was on it and abused the system. but anyway it was time for a change in government, give them a chance. I am an Australian who has had the privilege of living overseas and i know that Australia is far from being over populated....
I agree about the Communist/Chinese aspects. But running away solves nothing. And the U.S. will be just as badly off once Hillary gets into power. Best to stay here & fight, I mean put it this way: Rudd, as we all know, is stupid. His party? stupid. His co-workers? stupid. Think...Whitlam. Give the man 18 months. At first the interest rate rises, loss of jobs and general despair will be blamed on Howard (he'll find a way..) But what then?? Self-implosion! No Kevin by 2011!
Why is that people are cheering for this new change in government, saying "kinda happy it's not Howard up there"? Then saying "I "HOPE" he does right by me and my....." (keyword HOPE). Sounds to me like a classic case of 'Dunno What I Just Voted For, But Everyone Else Seems To Be Doing It' syndrome. The future of a nation cannot be pinned on an uneducated vote. People need to KNOW why they are voting for a leader, not because "it was time for a change". Sad to see the majority thinks this way
Morons.... you have no idea how the economy works and worse still your vote counts for as much as mined. A well groomed, well educated individual who never once recieved handouts from the government. I hope unemployment explodes, rates rise, you all lose your jobs, you default on your mortgage and lose your house. Oh but wait all you scum probably rent anyway.
You are on the money there. I suspect that in all-lower-case kurapuni's world, "well-educated" apparently means ignoring rules on spelling, grammar and syntax. I guess those three years of Grade Four were just too much to bear.
It's true.. this is a big win for the dole bludgers. I can't WAIT to be taxed more so I can pay for them. That's what the labor party considers "equality" - we all get brought down to a level of squalor. Better than the eras of prosperity under Howard, when anyone who wanted to could make a good living for themselves.
Don't worry, everyone will learn the hard way what happens when you vote Labor. (Yeah, again, as if Keating wasn't a good enough lesson.)
xwithoutxwingsx...what about the people who were brought down to squalor by the Howard government? Im not talking about dole bludgers and people who choose to be lazy, but families who struggled to make ends meet and many students who live below the poverty line. I totally agree with the ideal of a nation who helps themselves, but when government actions or inactions contribute to problems, then its the governments responsibility to rectify it.
OMG!111! YAY RUDDY ONYA MATE!!! UNIONS FUCKEN ROCK!!11!! I LOVE BRINGING ECONOMIES TO A HALT!!!11 WHO THE FUCK NEEDS MONEY ANYWAY!?!?! UNIONS ALL THE WAY GO RUDDY!!!!! no more shit from howard ("shit" meaning financial security and advancement of society, of course.) What's not to celebrate. Idiot.
Spot on mate.... and another thing since the unions care so much about the 'workers' , then where were the unions when those workers died installing those batts under the gvts scheme. i didnt hear a word from them..... If it was a liberal gvt that introduced the scheme and disaster struck , the unions would be jumping up and down. Fucking currupt unions........
its bout time that crome dome lost the election and let a real man take the spotlight thank god for kevin, lets just hope that he is better than ol'johnie can get much worse i guess. Kevin 07 ^^
now since labours thoughts on immigration will let 1000s of immigrants into aus each year available to work a small income than a reglar working class australian is able to wrk 4. A large number of immigration caused by civil war
Kevin Rudd is a big on multiculturalism
Howard was moderate
Under Ruds policies immigrants will flood into aus
robbiethebank...my family came here as migrants in the early 80s, and we work just as hard as anyone else. and ill be more of an australian than you'll ever be.
im not making you sound like a racist, i didnt even mention the word, you did. im saying immigration has contributed positively to the economy, im very well aware of the negatives of it because they certainly exist. but there are plenty of natural born australians who are doing absolutely nothing for our economy too. why isnt anyone kicking their ass? instead of calling me names, have a debate with me in a mature manner.
i agree with you that that there are people who abuse the dole, but "90% of people on the dole to pay for their "needs", liquor?" give proof rather than pulling out "facts" out of nowhere. besides, these immigrants take these lower paid jobs because nobody else wants them, because people think they're too good for those jobs, nobody is losing their jobs, they're not getting jobs because they're too fussy. atleast these immigrants are working!
You obviously dont live anywhere near housing commision..
these people destroy their homes.. and ask for the next hand pay roll..
I have been a policeman for 2 years now and have seen the way these people live wat they ask for and how they "work" and if wat i have seen and worked with for 2 years is a dream i think i have my facts straight...
People dont understand wat labour do.. Wat paul keating did with this equilty policy..
Hay robbiethebank my brother is on the doll not because ge wants to but because he suffer's from depression. & find's it hard to get work & since he is depressed he hasn't been able to get a good education. So don't assume all people are on the doll because they can't be stuffed.
if you actually read what i had wrote it says that 90% of people take deep advantage of it.. Cleary people with MEDICAL ILLNESS need to be compensated..
Yes and my best friend is on the doll because she just gave birth. People I'm sure are well aware that the doll sometimes isn't going to the people who use it productively I know my cousin was on it and abused the system. but anyway it was time for a change in government, give them a chance. I am an Australian who has had the privilege of living overseas and i know that Australia is far from being over populated.
What an absolute disaster! Get ready for the fall of a great and powerful nation. Only then will Australians see what their measly vote bought them. Tools!
You spastic. Dont even need to acknowledge the verbatim vomit you scum bring up. Let me guess which phrase you will use next to defend the antics at the polling booths last saturday.Fresh thinking, new ideas, out of touch. i cant wait until you all lose your jobs, houses and ill be here saying i told you so
Uh-huh. So you do not even need to acknowledge the "verbatim vomit" but you are responding to my post in under 3 minutes. LOL! Obviously you attended the Jackie Kelly School for Debate. You can scarcely handle English! Be well-advised to eschew quasi-Latin. Labor won. Suck it up.
"I will never take their sacred trust for granted" you better not mate, I'm a christian also and I will ear bash you for all eternity if you do mate !
No matter what anyone says Mr Rudd is now the leader of this great country and he will be for the next three years. If you don't like it use the money Mr Howard has given you with tax cuts, which you all should have all saved up in case something went 'wrong'... woops, and go on a three year holiday, come back and vote and if it doesn't work out then leave again, because it will obviously pain you to have Rudd as your leader.
And watch out for the trade unionists hiding under your bed too.
oasisforlife says 'And watch out for the trade unionists hiding under your bed too.' the unions are not under the bed, they are too busy making policy and forcing rudd to legislate it.
oasisforlife says sarcastically 'If you don't like it use the money Mr Howard has given you with tax cuts, which you all should have all saved up. AT LEAST I GOT TAX CUTS FROM HOWARD, ALL I GOT FROM THAT HOMO COMMO KEATING WAS A LIE REMEMBER HIS TAX CUTS? LAW L.A.W. LYING FAGGOT.
congrads to labour thye derserve this chance thye are getting they ran a much better campaign than that of the Liberals and Mr Howard....however i do feel bad for Mr howard losing his own seat.....he went down in flames...
ever notice any alp theatrics do not use australian flags, this speech being another example. the faceless alp puppet masters controlling things from the back rooms,TRAITORS! btw even the proles in the audience didn't wave aussie flags, oh, but i did see some fucked up hybrid alo southern cross graphic designer wank being waved around.
Don't be a dick miguel. Our farmers go bankrupt and commit suicide, our black brothers and sisters live in third world conditions, our working poor have no job security, our goddamn kids can't read or speak english properly because of the ridiculous state of education, and last (but definitely not least) this country now has an undercurrent of ignorance and racism borne from an entire generation that have grown up under conservative goverment.
i think no job security is better than the problems we are going to experience because of the unions. dumbest idea is to get rid of the IR laws - youll see.
and rudd is definately not putting enough money into education to make a "revolution" - you dont need to be an accountant to realise that.
kids are dumb because they idolise idiots like those in the noble park riots who then get let off with no problems.
I love Rudd but I'm worried that he isn't putting *anything* back into Unis. Especially after he made a point of callin John Howard out on his disinvesting in universities.
After attending one of Australia's best universities for the past 2 years, i want my money back. Even with the government funding, unis are ripping students off with poor course content. There's no substance in the technical training offered by universities let alone tech schools in this country, which further plunges us into a trade skills shortage. Hopefully with labor now in power revisions can be made to the funding provided to technical colleges and the like.
so if you build someone a new house, they rip the shit out of it, have 20 dogs living in there and burn a fire in the loungeroom floor, who's fault is that? john howards??? wake up to yourself hippy
thanks for uploading this! i'm in america at the moment and didn't get to see it-i'm so happy Rudd won. for once it feels like my vote actually counted! jonesro1989 you're an idiot, mate.
i bet 1989 is your year of birth so what the hell do you think you know about politics? john howard has probably been the only PM you can remember! ffs some people need to be restricted in their access to the internet.
Lets give Labor a fair chance, if they failed to maintain the groth of the economy in the next three years, then we can vote back for the Liberals and allow Peter Costello to fix the damage in the economy which would result from the Labor's bad economic managment.
This election got me voting. I think it got alot of non voters active. And I will keep it up.... ALWAYS LABOUR (we could have better, but hey what do you do)
Now the poor guy has to deal with 11 years of Howard's arrogant inaction and money wasting.
Hopefully the economic boom on which howard has sat for the past 11 years continues, cause he did nothing to prepare for the future, just saved up so he could save his ass when the time came.
economic growth doesnt just happen. it took a lot of work for howard and the liberal party to get unemployment and interest rates this low and thats what caused the growth, because ppl had higher disposable incomes (ie. more spending money), which encouraged growth for businesses and enabled them to increase wages. so in my opinion ppl are way better off having high wages due to economic growth than union threats to businesses, as that will only lead to recession.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I feel sorry for all the australian people who have voted the Labor party in, Labor will ruin Australia and have done it time and time again everytime they have held power.
Yes our economy is strong. I respect John Howard for that. BUT where he failed was balancing that out with an effective and adequate health system, education, social and environmental issue.
....or you could simply look at the pathetic sham that is the state governments (i.e the laughable Iemma government) and wonder what the fuck they're doing on all fronts. I'll give Rudd his time to shine, but i'll be voting Liberal come 2011.
I agree - I know many disagree - and thats ok - But in really simple terms, on or off field - I think Kevin Rudds a champ - and I hope what he says rings true :)
Now this man made me very proud to be Aussie last night. Especially when he said he was a leader for all Australian's & indigenous Australian's. This speach was one of the best to come out of a politician in this country of ours.
Unlike howard who only care'd if you were caucasian & had money.
the elephant in the blue dress is his wiffy?? LOL!

The government shouldn't b giving extra money out to the poor but instead offering bonuses for those who dont have much but try...

reneefraser 4 years ago
you talk about taking Australians jobs but i seriously don't see people volunteering to being a dishy or a factory worker, Australians leave that for the migrants. Robbie you have to get out and see the world more, see how some countries are living at the moment and then be grateful that you are living in a country that is able to support you if something was to happen to you. Then you would be on the doll
reneefraser 4 years ago
i mean at the moment i am in china something like 1.6 billion people here so don't talk about people coming in and taking Australians jobs because us Australians also go overseas and take jobs because there is no opportunities in Australia as yet for some people...

MisaMisa 4 years ago
Why is that people are cheering for this new change in government, saying "kinda happy it's not Howard up there"? Then saying "I "HOPE" he does right by me and my....." (keyword HOPE). Sounds to me like a classic case of 'Dunno What I Just Voted For, But Everyone Else Seems To Be Doing It' syndrome. The future of a nation cannot be pinned on an uneducated vote. People need to KNOW why they are voting for a leader, not because "it was time for a change". Sad to see the majority thinks this way

You are on the money there. I suspect that in all-lower-case kurapuni's world, "well-educated" apparently means ignoring rules on spelling, grammar and syntax. I guess those three years of Grade Four were just too much to bear.
OthelloCat 4 years ago
It's true.. this is a big win for the dole bludgers.
(Yeah, again, as if Keating wasn't a good enough lesson.)
xwithoutxwingsx 4 years ago 4
xwithoutxwingsx...what about the people who were brought down to squalor by the Howard government? Im not talking about dole bludgers and people who choose to be lazy, but families who struggled to make ends meet and many students who live below the poverty line. I totally agree with the ideal of a nation who helps themselves, but when government actions or inactions contribute to problems, then its the governments responsibility to rectify it.

a future of a great immigration
this election was lost to labour
for 1 reason
work laws that jon howrd introduced
now since labours thoughts on immigration will let 1000s of immigrants into aus each year available to work a small income than a reglar working class australian is able to wrk 4. A large number of immigration caused by civil war
Kevin Rudd is a big on multiculturalism
Howard was moderate
Under Ruds policies immigrants will flood into aus
Its gonna cause massive unemployment

robbiethebank...my family came here as migrants in the early 80s, and we work just as hard as anyone else. and ill be more of an australian than you'll ever be.

this has nothing to do with citizenship
or racial discrimination..
clearly if you over populate australias very little working economy
its going to cause unemployment.. for every1 you idiot. so dont try and make me sound racist fool.
robbiethebank 4 years ago
im not making you sound like a racist, i didnt even mention the word, you did. im saying immigration has contributed positively to the economy, im very well aware of the negatives of it because they certainly exist. but there are plenty of natural born australians who are doing absolutely nothing for our economy too. why isnt anyone kicking their ass? instead of calling me names, have a debate with me in a mature manner.
oceanspray19 4 years ago
arr regardless of the dole witch rudd is supportive of
making us pay our taxes to help 90% of people on the doll pay for there "needs"
liqure...
in his mine equilty
HE WILL ALLOW MASSIVE IMMIGRANTION CAUSEING PEOPLE TO LOSE THERE JOBS TO PEOPLE WHO CAN WORK FOR LESS.
SIMPLE JUST WAT HAPPINED WHEN KEATING WAS IN CHRAGE..........
robbiethebank 4 years ago 2
i agree with you that that there are people who abuse the dole, but "90% of people on the dole to pay for their "needs", liquor?" give proof rather than pulling out "facts" out of nowhere. besides, these immigrants take these lower paid jobs because nobody else wants them, because people think they're too good for those jobs, nobody is losing their jobs, they're not getting jobs because they're too fussy. atleast these immigrants are working!
oceanspray19 4 years ago

Don't be a dick miguel. Our farmers go bankrupt and commit suicide, our black brothers and sisters live in third world conditions, our working poor have no job security, our goddamn kids can't read or speak english properly because of the ridiculous state of education, and last (but definitely not least) this country now has an undercurrent of ignorance and racism borne from an entire generation that have grown up under conservative goverment.
boddhimac 4 years ago 3
i think no job security is better than the problems we are going to experience because of the unions. dumbest idea is to get rid of the IR laws - youll see.
and rudd is definately not putting enough money into education to make a "revolution" - you dont need to be an accountant to realise that.
kids are dumb because they idolise idiots like those in the noble park riots who then get let off with no problems.

I love Rudd but I'm worried that he isn't putting *anything* back into Unis. Especially after he made a point of callin John Howard out on his disinvesting in universities.
copperfingers 4 years ago 2
After attending one of Australia's best universities for the past 2 years, i want my money back. Even with the government funding, unis are ripping students off with poor course content. There's no substance in the technical training offered by universities let alone tech schools in this country, which further plunges us into a trade skills shortage. Hopefully with labor now in power revisions can be made to the funding provided to technical colleges and the like.

jamespearson 4 years ago
economic growth doesnt just happen. it took a lot of work for howard and the liberal party to get unemployment and interest rates this low and thats what caused the growth, because ppl had higher disposable incomes (ie. more spending money), which encouraged growth for businesses and enabled them to increase wages. so in my opinion ppl are way better off having high wages due to economic growth than union threats to businesses, as that will only lead to recession.
