This cantata is virtually unknown in the US. A beautiful performance. The sheer size of the Marienkirche, Muehlhausen, and the building's echo, produce a sound I have never heard before from a cantata. It is wonderful music, and it prompts me to include Muehlhausen in a trip to Germany.
Thank you so much, most beautiful recording I've heard in years. All musicians wonderful, brass section gave me goosebumps all over my body and tears in my eyes, magnificent! Thanks God for Bach!!
Awesome!!! Just absolutely bloody awesome!! Listening to Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi and Handel makes it so hard for me to get back into the 21st Century's music. Food for the soul is the only way I can descibe this. Thankyou soooooo much for this vid!!
Just letting you know that when I was helping with the production of this video performance the recorders at time index 1:08 had to wait twenty minutes for the echo of the previous movement to subside and fade away. 20 MINUTES!! That church caused to many echo problems for us and the crew!
@gerubach72 THHHHAAAANNNKKKKK YOu..YOu....You......you.......phenomenal effort! I once plaid the organ at West Point with a choir right in front of me, and the echo was so intense that I had to watch my fingers and tune out the sound!
The chorus "Du wollest dem Feinde nicht geben" is one of the
great miracles in music history. Imo even Bach hardly reached the heights of the pictorial tonal language in this piece in his later works. Once more the listener remains in perplexed amazement about such orginative power and emotion.
I cried too the first time I heared this cantata, with the Tölz boys choir and Harnoncourt (Teldec- complete sacred Cantatas), mainly with the boy sopran Wilhelm Wiedl and with the choir... I love it! It's one of the first Bach-Cantatas he have, but I think the first one is BWV 4, "Christ lag in Todesbanden".
Does someone know the name of the man who sings in the starting of this vid?

@gerubach72
The audio was recorded from there too?
Why the camera is moving from side to side during almost all the “film”.
Or at leas the first part is moving (I think that kind of movement is called Pan isn`t it?) and It’s getting me dizzy :P
