  • Part 1:

    ========

    You shouldn't have problem to start it if you do like this:

    -> Of course, a fixed sparking plug is important.

    -> Use fresh petrol. Old petrol does not respond to sparks, the engine stays dead.

    I use about 4% oil. Oil quality is good today, much better than when the user manual was written.

  • Part 2:

    ========

    1) Put throttle to max.

    2) Fill the float-chamber until petrol comes out...not recommended when using a test bucket, barrel or similar.

    3) Put the thorottle to half.

    4) Pull the rope. If the engine is cold it should start. More dificult when it is warm.

    5) Lower throttle immediately or the engine might dislike the rpm.

  • Part 3:

    ========

    6) Check that cooling water comes out. If not the channel is blocked and the engine will run smoothly if you pour water right on top of it. When it sounds creaky and dropping power it is overheated and asks you to pour more water on it and you will be home soon.

    A Seagull accepts almost any kind of bad or idiotic treatment except for beeing stored in temperatures lower than 0 Celsius. Once I had to repair (re-solder) the floating brass thing (don't know what it's called in english) in the floating-chamber because of that.

    Happy boating with your Seagull!!

  • Nice sound! :-)

  • I had one of those once, in England, mounted to a fiberglas tender that looked like a little car. When I got it the motor was frozen, but two starter ropes tied together & a running yank with one wind around the flywheel freed it up. There was prodigious blow-by, but the ol' Seagull got us up & down Oulton Broad!

    Your reference to England is very appropriate in this instance. I am in the process of restoring an Alacrity which is a twin keel sailboat made in England. When I saw this motor for sale I decided to go for a theme. Neither is in the water yet but now I have a goal.
