good vid, (sorry for the random comments) but i'm wanting to get a nice Dual amp (in my experience it's a good brand) bridged it's 150 watts RMS, but would it hurt the amp if i ran my 12" Dual(175 watts RMS) on it? any clipping even if the gain is low or at the most half? it's the Dual XPE2700 , and the SD12 4 ohm sub. i'd put in in a sealed box.

@xFReSHeReST the only amps i can get around my area are dual, and sony, but i changed my mind from dual sub to kicker comp, but that dual amp powers it perfectly 150 RMS on 150 RMS, and it's CEA compliant.

I would rather have a sealed since i have less room in a cab. would it be safe to do so? should i just go as big as i can with the box so the sub can move at its potential, or will it suffocate it?

@generalporfirioggonz - Extra power = Good --- I would always go ported, unless you don't enjoy lower extensions of bass. Any port will do, just tune it to the mid to low 30's for the best musical tuning..

so with the clarion eq i just ordered it only has 4 Left right front rear outputs and 2 left right inputs....but i have 4 outputs from my HU... the clarion seems like it wont work if you have 4 channel and 2 sub channel out from your HU (6 pre-amp outputs)

Time frame 0:45. Polyfill is actually ideal if you want to go with a smaller box due to space constraints. Since it does fool the subs into behaving as if they were in a bigger box. Typical is 1/2 lb. for every cu.ft. of internal space.

Time frame 3:33. Two 2 ohm subs will not be a 2 ohm load UNLESS they are DVC and wired series-parallel.

get a epic 160 too. not as accurate as a termlab but its within a few db's. so it sets a good baselin for tuning in a system or doin tricks for a few more dbs. the wicked boost is nice too. 13volt preouts. makes a huge gain without touching the amps gain

Hey man, I have a 2 ohm dvc sub.. 12 volt.com diagram for 1 ohm, is pos from one voice coil to pos on other voice coil & the same with the negatives. Then you take one of the pos from one voice coil to the amp. And one of the negatives from the OTHER voice coil to the amp. My problem is that I had it wired so the pos & neg to the amp, came from the same voice coil. Would this change anything or would it still be 1 ohm?

@ansonx10 if they are both 4 ohms i dont see why it wouldnt work but just watch the wattage, and wired in serries will be a 8 ohm load if the amp is a monoblock or 2 channel bridged...so what i would do for most spl is if ur amp is 2 ohm stable wire them in parrellel which would be a 2 ohm load and make sure the smaller one can handle the watts and i would build or buy 2 ported boxes cuz u will get more spl in ported then sealed..but if u try that do ur research and make sure it will handle it

Hey man, about the bass knob stuff.... dont forget to tell them that there are 2 different styles of knobs to look for. First is the shit thats on cheaper amps which is actually a Bass Boost knob that you dont want. Bass Boosting is a sure fire way of causing distortion/clipping. 2nd is the ones on higher end stuff (RF, Sundown, DAT, etc...) the knob is actually a Remote Gain Attenuater(SP?) that controls the level of your gain, which basically controls the output power of your amp.

@99LSDyme Good add! The remote gains are nice as well because they will only max at the gain set on the amplifier. The remote will not bring in distortion by turning the gain to maximum the amplifier can provide, rather just give on the fly adjustments which will not mess with finely tuned systems.

I might be way of and wrong with regards to SPL.... but It is my understanding that adding damping foam to the rear of an enclosure reduces "standing waves" and increase response. Need to be "fluffy" material, acoustic foam is fairly cheap. DO NOT COMPRESS the material, and keep it away from the bass ports. My experience is that this increases sound quality, don't know if it harms SPL, (does it?) I always value SQ over SPL and if its not loud enough, for fk sake don't force your amp to clip

yeah, i know a 1" thick plywood that is treated will be much denser than the MDF, most people just use 1/2" plywood which is strong but will flex ALOT. And its mostly high quality home audio done in plywood.

with remote gains and bass knobs, a remote gain is much much better, as long as you know how to use it, a bass knob if you crank that ujp it will clip your sub with about 6 db of boost, as a gain knob (if you control it right) will just adjust the output of the amp. also when using either one use a dmm or oscope to set the max of the knob, DO NOT TURN IT UP PAST THAT POINT or youll clip.

also make sure it does one of 2 things, overides the thing it controls or is limited by it.
