Darkthrone aren't posers now... They've just evolved. It's still the same stuff essentially, with a newer, more thrashy twist.

The Pioneers: Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum.

That's 1st fave, possibly a few more.

There has been plenty of good BM bands since then, but more shitty ones than good ones. I agree, symphony should not be included. The only time I can enjoy keyboards in BM is like Varg from Burzum's dark ambient work. That's as far as I'll go.

I can't stand the Black Metal "true" mentallity. Only what they consider "true" Black Metal is good. Everything else is "sellout". The only "true" in music is playing whatever the fuck gets your goat. Darkthrone are great because they started out Death and now they're more Thrash/Crust/Black. They play whatever they want!

that mentality is held among the pioneers of the genre because after they started out, along came a string of new bands or "imitators" who changed the sound from what it originally was meant to be.

therefore they use the term "true" to refer to it as original black metal as it once was.

anyone can tell by listening to a BM band whether it's the true or classic, original BM style.

that's why it's considered "true" i suppose.
