Train robbin's too dangerous, that's for sure. Especially since nothing's on there anyone wants a lot. But that's an old song. I don't know if Jesse blew it. But he could have done some gigs with the Drifters or The Embers and then who knows?
I found this LP in a second hand store. I just listened to it and it blew me away. I'm gonna listen to it again. Rye Whiskey really got me. Literally! I had to stop.
This L.P rules, Tannis and I called him Jesse Colin God. Most people do nothing in their lives and yet this young man went into his soul and found these wonderful songs. He doesn't even have the rights to release this record. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for this post. However, I think Jesse Colin Young is an ahole. His first two albums were fantastic. Then, as I understand it, he moved to the West Coast; "mellowed out"; and came out with garbage like "ComeTogether." He had so much talent, and he blew it.
everyone has their heyday. poor jesse was caught up in an industry that at the time promoted the abuse and exploitation of traditional american folk music to help propel political agendas.
Wow, does this song bring back memories. I'll be 50 yrs. old in November '09 and my Dad use to sing this song to me when he put me to bed. I know....an odd song to sing to a little girl but probably one that he knew and liked. I loved it and had never heard it again until I came across this version. I am a huge Jesse Collin Young fan and that is how I happened onto it. Thanks for reminding me of those lovely odd memories of my Dad who has been gone for over 4 years.
This is my favorite Jesse Colin Young song-I must have listened to this hundreds of times when I was in college. Still have the album too.

The best blues album I owned in the 60"s. "Stranger Love" still runs through my brain. Anyone know how to find CD of "Soul of a City Boy?"

original version - chords should be the same (or very close)
boothl232 1 year ago
@ThaTZexperiment I'm pretty sure they are: G Em Am D for the verses, G C G D for the chorus in drop D tuning.

@abrekutu yeah whatever. People once were individuals in this country. That sure as
hell is a fantasy nowadays.
I don't think Jesse is an ahole because this CD is like 400 dollars. But I can't
change that either.

Lovely story. He most likely sang it like Tex Ritter did.
Maybe you should look up that version.
