Im so glad the Norwegian version of this does not have the bbfo 12 year old age limit logo on the boxset! Mine is all clear, no bullshit, just Lord of The Rings :) Good review tho!
Dude not disrespect intended but based on how you breathing sounds looks like you better lose some weight for your own good. I also have to lose weight but your heavy breathig is scarry.
@juanarruti I dont know, I looked into it though and apparently a lot of people have that same problem. The Fellowship blu ray just refuses to be played but the others work fine. And it also worked fine when I tried playing on just a regular blu ray player. Its bizarre...
Question: does this have new extended scenes (besides the new behind the scenes dvd) that the extended dvd's that came out a few years ago do not have?
I heard it does, and then heard that it does not... thanks.
I bought this for 50 dollars I saw the extended boxset on DVD one day and wanted badly as I'm a huge fan of the extended cuts but decided not to buy it and good thing too cus I prefer the blu rays but hate that they are on 2 discs like the DVD it feels like a HD port but o well
@sentinel739 not only just added scenes, they actually made the films look like it should on bluray. the first blurays for lord of the rings motion picture quality was terrible.
Wow you pay all that and the Movies come one two disks? I guess each movie is almost 4 hours long so changing a disk every two hours isn't that bad but still i wish for that price it would all come on one.
I have the extended cut of The Two Towers on blu-ray and I have to say I don't enjoy the extended version, I always pick the theatrical version.I find the extra scenes boring..I don't know why. Does this box set offer the choice to seem them in theatrical versions as well or only extended?
The main question is for £40 is it worth doubling up on the DVD versions? I was hoping like you that the films would be on one disc each and am a little disappointed to find they're still split. Apart from the HD versions of the films is there anything else in the set to tempt me?
@StonecycleRocks If you already have the extended cuts on DVD, then the HD picture is really the only selling point. If you are hoping for more, then I am sure there will be a super set that will include the Hobbit in the next few years.
@dinolast I only have the theatrical editions on DVD, and I've never seen the extended editions. Can you tell me, is it worth blind buying the Extended Editions if I love the Theatrical ones, and do I need to buy the theatrical editions on Blu-ray as well for the complete experience?
@OatesQuotes Yes it is worth buying the extended editions as they make the movies even better. The Return of the King now has Saurman in it, and gives a satisfactory conclusion to that character's story, and the Two towers has even more emotional impact with the added scenes.
@RebelAdmiral Yeah I was struggling to even finish sentences. I have not watched this all the way through for a while, and listening to it reminds me how ill I was.
I'm from Brazil, and I wonder if the only region of the disc is region free or b, because here we are in south america The region is A, also has the audio in Portuguese, because the American version has.
@kedavrarius Well, if you buy it in the USA the blu-ray will work anyway, being region free or region A. The problem is with the DVDs... I don't recommend buying the box abroad. Mesmo que seja caro.... rs
@WayneRizZx Thanks for saying good review, but when I made this I was ill, I also have problems breathing through my nose, which was made worse, and I also go to the gym 3 times a week. I am over weight, but I am a fitter than a lot of skinny people
@dinolast Is it? I think the UK version is also nice, just I prefer the black case and don't like the rating icons on the UK box, otherwise are okay. =D
Anyway, your unboxing video is great, but may I know what is EIV? ^^'
@iszac87 Entertainment in Video, who distribute Warner titles in the UK. They are the ones responsible for the packaging, which is always below par compared the other countries releases
I own this package, I love lord of the rings, looks great in blu ray, I cannot wait for Star Wars release on September and the Hobbit release on theaters next year!
@Mountaind3ws The actually did this on purpose. Blu-Ray has the space, most people just don't watch these in one sitting. It was made so you have a stopping point and don't have to scroll through scenes to pick up where you left off, you can just put in he next disk.
do you have 3 hands? you know what u could buy for your flip.. there is this thing you put in the lens and makes the view wider.. don't remember how it's called but check it out you'll like it
@Mountaind3ws you serious? The whole reason to buy on Blu-Ray is to get it in superior picture quality. Putting it on one Blu-Ray disc means more compression! Fair enough, I'd rather have the best looking blu-ray instead though. Getting up every 2 hours isn't the biggest inconvenience lol.
I'll be getting this tomorrow; though I do have one concern. A friend on mine told me that the Moria scenes were extremely dark and hard to make out; maybe its just because his television set isn't properly calibrated?
It is because each film extended takes up about 60 - 70 GB of space, and unless they compressed it; which would lower the quality...it would have to be split up. The a dual layer Blu Ray disc is 50 GB I believe, so it wasn't them being cheap or anything. Just wanting to maximize the quality.
@Mountaind3ws They did that b/c of compression. If they had the entire movie on one disc, it probably wouldn't have the high quality that it has. But that's only a guess.
that green tint in the first film is barely noticable. i mean the only way to notice it is if someone told someone else about it because then they will definitely look for and expect that green tint. It didnt bother me at all. in fact i think it added to atmosphere of the movie. im actually happy with this release and the fact that the movies with split into two discs does not bother me. i think this is the best release of lotr on home video except maybe if they 3d it.
@youliveyoudie I agree. It's all been blown out of proportion. I guess they might make them 3D, seeing as the Hobbit is being filmed that way, but then again Jackson might not be a fan of post conversion. I guess it's down to how Star Wars episode 1 looks next year.
People that are complaining about it being on 2 discs: It is very simple they have it packed full with audio things including audio commentary track (that has been re-recorded).
if they turned the special features discs into blu ray, they could have used less discs to make the set. it couldve saved them some cost and cut down on disc usage. couldve made it a 12 disc set instead of 15.
hey i heard that each movie is split on two bluray each..is that true...? that suck because bluray should have more storage than dvds do....i dont know if i want to buy this now.
@darkroxas25 Well I looked in to it as I was not overly happy about it on the video. However I found out that even though Blu-Ray has more storage, 1080p still takes up a massive amount of space on the disc, plus when you add all the audio including the True HD, they really had no choice but to split them again
@dinolast also i heard that it got problems like green tint and other problems or something...i saw the green tint on other videos here. and it's not much noticed. but any cons else about this bluray box set?
@darkroxas25 The only thing I do not like about my UK boxset are the age ratings all over the box. As for the films I love them, and I have never seen or heard them any better than what is on offer here.
Iv watched them all and never even saw a green tint. Probably only appears on some TV's. That, or people are trying to find something to complain about...
For everyone complaining about the "tint," get your televisions calibrated. So far it looks perfect on my 46" Samsung 7100 LED that was calibrated by Best Buy Geek Squad. No complaints here. :)
@NASCreation according to a statement from warner the BluRay has been checked by Peter jackson and the way the film looks including the green tint (which is barely noticeable apparently) was actually the way the director intended you too see it. So shut up.
I also find it amusing how you go to endless lengths justifying the green tint, after you've shelled out money for the set. So it hardly comes off as a genuine, unbiased assessment. Sorry.
@NASCreations I am not justifying anything I say how I see it. I am not the only one who has no problem with the tint. However because I disagree with you I am being biased well that is just wrong. I never said there was no tint, but I also said it does not ruin the film. Blu-Ray.com gave the picture 4 out 5 were they being biased too?
Good that you can remove the Blu-ray logo, but a terrible shame you can't remove the hideous classification symbols on the bottom. You seriously needed to do this with the camera further away so that we could see everything at once. Very frustrating video to watch. In any case, with the inexcusable green tint I am no longer planning on buying this set. People saying it looks ok forget that your eyes adjust after a while, but a simultaneous comparison with the theatrical would expose the horror.
I watched Fellowship and I have to say I didn't notice to bad of a green tint. Snow was white and skies were blue! Nice unboxing man. I just started unboxing myself and hope to get better. Check out my channel and let me know what you think. LoTR has never looked better IMO.
Thank you for doing this review. I just got this boxset and I was worried about fellowship of the ring's controversial picture quality. (fotr is my favorite of the whole trilogy). But I don't think the green tint will be as noticable as people were making it out to be and Im sure it was put there by purpose. lol, there are alot of videophiles out there. The question is, does the color change actually make the movie feel different than it was originally intended to?
@Fantasy782 No the tint is not noticeable for most of the movie, and it adds to other scenes like inside Orthanc.
Yes Saruman looks a different colour inside the building, but then inside the tower it would not look so bright as it originally looked if, so it looks more natural with the tint. When he is outside Orthanc, his clothes still look white
@Mountaind3ws I'm pretty sure they would fit each movie on to one disc if they could. I think one disc can only hold a maximum of three hours, so we'll have to wait until our discs are more technologically advanced.
omg, are the two 12s in the right and left corner printed on the box or are they glued or something? Because the german editions haven't got (thank god!) the FSK-16 logo :D
@DJTommy812 I am pretty overweight at the moment so I am going to the gym quite a lot. My trainer made me workout for over two hours till he almost killed me. As soon as I got back I decided to review the boxset. I guess that's why I am breathing pretty bad.
It's because of the quality and the size of the data. The movies in bluray take up so much space that it was almost impossible to jam it on one disc without degrading the quality.
@Mountaind3ws Keep in mind that each disk is 2 hours of full 1080p hd video and hd audio. It is understandable that they would split the movies in order to give the best quality possible.
your welcome mate can you please make a video of the menu and i little bit of the movie itself a wanna see how the Quality is. is it better than the normal motion picture Trilogy? thanks Again that you reply on my commant
@kimilover4ever I am affraid I can not show the Menu and film for copyright reasons, but I can tell you that this is the best way to watch Lord of the Rings. Ever since I saw the extended versions I have never watched the Theatricals again. The extra scenes are amazing and Return of the King is a much better movie now Saurman is in it. The picture on these Blu-Rays are much better than the DVD versions too
Hmm I was wondering if we are getting corrected disc (because of the dabate of Fellowship being very green), because Amazon.uk has now listed this boxset as "Get notified when this title get released"
@Lauzzy81 The thing is the green is not effecting all of the movie. In the Rivendale scenes there are plenty of buildings that still look white and Frodo's bed still has white pillows. I still say the Tinting that is there for effect. I guess Amazon.co.uk sold out. Amazon USA is still showing the 29th as a release date. Play and HMV are still selling them too
@Lauzzy81 This is not something to BE corrected. Do a quick google to find all the articles where Peter Jackson says he specifically went back with a colour artist to alter this film for this set to be closer to his original vision for the film. THIS is how he wants it. If the original did not exist nobody would say "oh no its too green". The colour is used to make scenes look darker, colder and more moody and is used selectively. It is also not always green. They also removed a lot of red!
Im so glad the Norwegian version of this does not have the bbfo 12 year old age limit logo on the boxset! Mine is all clear, no bullshit, just Lord of The Rings :) Good review tho!

However I found out that even though Blu-Ray has more storage, 1080p still takes up a massive amount of space on the disc, plus when you add all the audio including the True HD, they really had no choice but to split them again
dinolast 7 months ago
@dinolast really????? i don't know that. hm......i guess i'll get it then. i love LOTR too much lol
darkroxas25 7 months ago
@dinolast also i heard that it got problems like green tint and other problems or something...i saw the green tint on other videos here. and it's not much noticed. but any cons else about this bluray box set?
darkroxas25 7 months ago
@darkroxas25 The only thing I do not like about my UK boxset are the age ratings all over the box. As for the films I love them, and I have never seen or heard them any better than what is on offer here.
dinolast 7 months ago
@dinolast really...hm.interesting
darkroxas25 7 months ago
Iv watched them all and never even saw a green tint. Probably only appears on some TV's. That, or people are trying to find something to complain about...
DaEnglishGeeza 7 months ago
For everyone complaining about the "tint," get your televisions calibrated. So far it looks perfect on my 46" Samsung 7100 LED that was calibrated by Best Buy Geek Squad. No complaints here. :)
GIJosep 7 months ago
@NASCreation according to a statement from warner the BluRay has been checked by Peter jackson and the way the film looks including the green tint (which is barely noticeable apparently) was actually the way the director intended you too see it. So shut up.
manic221 7 months ago
I also find it amusing how you go to endless lengths justifying the green tint, after you've shelled out money for the set. So it hardly comes off as a genuine, unbiased assessment. Sorry.
NASCreations 7 months ago
@NASCreations I am not justifying anything I say how I see it. I am not the only one who has no problem with the tint. However because I disagree with you I am being biased well that is just wrong. I never said there was no tint, but I also said it does not ruin the film. Blu-Ray.com gave the picture 4 out 5 were they being biased too?
dinolast 7 months ago

LoTR has never looked better IMO.
toptenarchive 7 months ago
Thank you for doing this review. I just got this boxset and I was worried about fellowship of the ring's controversial picture quality. (fotr is my favorite of the whole trilogy). But I don't think the green tint will be as noticable as people were making it out to be and Im sure it was put there by purpose. lol, there are alot of videophiles out there. The question is, does the color change actually make the movie feel different than it was originally intended to?
Fantasy782 7 months ago
@Fantasy782 No the tint is not noticeable for most of the movie, and it adds to other scenes like inside Orthanc.
Yes Saruman looks a different colour inside the building, but then inside the tower it would not look so bright as it originally looked if, so it looks more natural with the tint. When he is outside Orthanc, his clothes still look white

@Mountaind3ws I'm pretty sure they would fit each movie on to one disc if they could. I think one disc can only hold a maximum of three hours, so we'll have to wait until our discs are more technologically advanced.

@Mountaind3ws It's to save as much quality as possible. It's worth it, trust me broski.

omg, are the two 12s in the right and left corner printed on the box or are they glued or something? Because the german editions haven't got (thank god!) the FSK-16 logo :D

@DJTommy812 I am pretty overweight at the moment so I am going to the gym quite a lot. My trainer made me workout for over two hours till he almost killed me. As soon as I got back I decided to review the boxset. I guess that's why I am breathing pretty bad.

@Mountaind3ws
It's because of the quality and the size of the data. The movies in bluray take up so much space that it was almost impossible to jam it on one disc without degrading the quality.

Peelersandbranston 8 months ago
@Mountaind3ws Keep in mind that each disk is 2 hours of full 1080p hd video and hd audio. It is understandable that they would split the movies in order to give the best quality possible.

your welcome mate can you please make a video of the menu and i little bit of the movie itself a wanna see how the Quality is. is it better than the normal motion picture Trilogy? thanks Again that you reply on my commant
kimilover4ever 8 months ago
@kimilover4ever I am affraid I can not show the Menu and film for copyright reasons, but I can tell you that this is the best way to watch Lord of the Rings. Ever since I saw the extended versions I have never watched the Theatricals again. The extra scenes are amazing and Return of the King is a much better movie now Saurman is in it. The picture on these Blu-Rays are much better than the DVD versions too

Hmm I was wondering if we are getting corrected disc (because of the dabate of Fellowship being very green), because Amazon.uk has now listed this boxset as "Get notified when this title get released"
Lauzzy81 8 months ago
@Lauzzy81 The thing is the green is not effecting all of the movie. In the Rivendale scenes there are plenty of buildings that still look white and Frodo's bed still has white pillows. I still say the Tinting that is there for effect. I guess Amazon.co.uk sold out. Amazon USA is still showing the 29th as a release date. Play and HMV are still selling them too
dinolast 8 months ago
@dinolast Thx for the reply ;)
Lauzzy81 8 months ago
@Lauzzy81 This is not something to BE corrected. Do a quick google to find all the articles where Peter Jackson says he specifically went back with a colour artist to alter this film for this set to be closer to his original vision for the film. THIS is how he wants it. If the original did not exist nobody would say "oh no its too green". The colour is used to make scenes look darker, colder and more moody and is used selectively. It is also not always green. They also removed a lot of red!
