It's because of the flight stability. Arrow flight is not straight when it leaves the bow. The arrow shaft bends during release and the oscillation of the arrow is corrected by the fletching. The oscillation must be low at the moment of impact so that it pierces the pot rather then breaking it. Because the pot was not so close to archers the arrow hit with little oscillation. The physical properties of this carbon arrow helped in such a clean hole too.
